Menton3 Announces KATABASIS

Menton3 has been teasing the word KATABASIS for a week now, and through my Internet sleuthing, all I could determine was that it was to be a gallery show at the dark and sexy LAST RITES GALLERY in New York City. My West Coast heart shrank to Grinch proportions.

Then the gods of great art shone down on me in the form of a new Kickstarter campaign. Menton3 has turned his gallery show into a book and we have the opportunity to support it, win some perks, and (for those of us not able to make it to New York) attend the show in our own special way.

Hit the jump for the official press release and kickstarter.

Oficial Press Release from 44Flood:

menton3 has just launched his new Kickstarter, KATABASIS!

In Greek mythology, a Katabasis was the journey to the otherworld leading into one’s interiority to confront elements of one’s psyche.

On April 19, 2014, menton3 will have his first ever solo gallery show at the illustrious Last Rites Gallery in New York City with KATABASIS as the theme.

To coincide with the gallery show, menton3 has asked for support so that he may create a book about this theme as well as chronicle his process in creating the gallery show.

The limited run Katabasis hardcover book will be put together by menton3 and frequent collaborator, Kasra Ghanbari. The book will be 9.25×11″ with 72 pages and will include all the works presented at menton3′s Last Rites Gallery show along with preliminary sketches, drawings, oil paintings, and other developmental works that were part of his own inward journey to draw forth the images for the gallery show. The book will also include information about Katabasis from mythological tales, especially the story of Orpheus and Eurydice, as well as experiences and understandings from menton3′s own Katabasis and how the pieces created relate to them.

You can find the Kickstarter campaign here. Go forth and support great art!
