Trailer For ‘The Purge: Anarchy’ Takes Things Outside!

Updated with stills and the official poster: Universal Pictures just released the trailer for The Purge: Anarchy, a movie that thankfully takes place in the streets during the chaos of the event! I’m kind of wondering if the shorthand in the car about how “no one will help them tonight” is only for the trailer, since it starts out kind of trying to hide the fact that this is a Purge movie until the now famous voiceover kicks in.

Aside from that, I’m very glad that this movie doesn’t take place inside a house. It’s also nice to see that we’re getting a wider sampling of what the various criminal participants are up to. The Purge is a really interesting concept and it seems like the sequel is setting itself up to explore it more thoroughly. I’m definitely optimistic.

The film hits theaters June 20th. Frank Grillo, Michael K. Williams, Carmen Ejogo, Zach Gilford, Kiele Sanchez, and Keith Stanfield all star.

Returning alongside writer/director/producer James DeMonaco to produce the next chapter of the thriller are Blumhouse Productions’ Jason Blum (Paranormal Activity and Insidious), alongside Sébastien K. Lemercier (Assault on Precinct 13, Four Lovers) and Platinum Dunes partners Michael Bay (Pain & Gain, Transformers), Brad Fuller (The Texas Chainsaw Massacre, The Amityville Horror, A Nightmare on Elm Street, Friday the 13th) and Andrew Form (The Texas Chainsaw Massacre, Friday the 13th, The Amityville Horror, A Nightmare on Elm Street).

It looks significantly better than the 1st. I hate the cat/mouse locked in the house approach. Will be nice to see this franchise grow some legs and walk it’s happy ass the rest of the way.

    • WalkWithMeInDarkness

      Haha! Agreed.

  • WalkWithMeInDarkness

Good trailer, like the first movie had. I, too, have more hope for this one because it’s not in a house the whole time. P.S. Excited to hear Evan Dickson on the Blood Cast (whenever it gets uploaded).

Glad they’re taking the action outside of the house. Looks different enough from the first one- I’m in.

    Not bad.

I’m just happy they’re taking things outside of the house in this sequel, so we can see the real chaos outside. Although, there’s a part of me that’s hoping they’ll stop with three movies.

I wouldn’t mind a part three, where the government considers ending The Purge, but Purge enthusiasts refuse to quit. Could be a lot of fun, but nothing beyond three movies. With more sequels, you’re running the risk of creating a Saw V or Halloween: Resurrection, and that’s not a compliment.

@Zombie-Killa, i really like your idea for the 3rd movie! that would be pretty interesting to see.

        Thanks!

Honestly, IF they do a third film, I think they’ll have to address the possibility of The Purge not working anymore, or too many people, who support The Purge are going to ask for more hours or something like that to create a conflict. And when both sides collide, all hell breaks loose! Hopefully. lol.

It looks like I’m alone here, but I loved the home invasion first film. It will be nice to see how the story unfolds in a more mobile setting. Really looking forward to it.

  • djblack1313

looks good! i love Kiele Sanchez, Frank Grillo (barely, if at all, shown in the trailer…weird) & Zach Gilford. i’m definitely in!

  • themadbomber187

This looks good, I loved the first movie(mainly because the black guy lived) the concept was interesting and original. I’m looking forward to THE PURGE: ANARCHY.

  • Nurse Derpusheen

I looks great, I loved the first one, after we watched it the first time we all wondered what we would do during the purge.

  • LetsGetOutOfHere

While the initial premise is silly with the whole car breaking down business, the rest of it looks promising. The first one was okay, but I think it took itself too seriously. This looks like much more fun.

  • Joey

They filmed this fast!Hope it’s as good as the first.

    • Zack Garner

      Emma Roberts is FINE.

  • Zack Garner

Anarchy in the title makes no sense given that it’s legal for said amount of hours. Acting is probably bad. First was so dreadfully dumb. Cool premise, lame delivery.

    • djblack1313

@Zack Garner, the acting is probably very good. they have a very good cast.

      • Zack Garner

I want believe when I don’t see it.

    • MachineGunGandhi

He’s got a point about the title though… they are not really anarchists, they are law abiding citizens committing atrocities legally through the government sponsored Purge.

  • Hugo Lopez

kind of trite. but im down to check it out. the first one was pretty bad in the middle but got good towards the end.

  • wehoaks

When your whole premise hinges on two dipshits driving a pice of shit car right before the purge and it breaks down, it’s safe to say this will suck taint like the first film.

  • mountain twin

this looks like a fan made trailer.
but then again that would mean this movie had fans to begin with.

    • djblack1313

      ZOMG!! you’re so funny…..not.

  • lhcameron

Did i watch a different trailer than everyone else?? I think this looks amazing! I always loved the concept of “The Purge” and since we are actually going to see the outside and what goes down i’m even more excited. (plus that haunting version of America the Beautiful which if anyone knows the composer, is AMAZING). I cant wait for this movie. And though i hated “The Devil’s Due” I did enjoy the acting so i have faith in Zach. Can’t wait for this film to release

  • ThunderDragoon

Hmm, doesn’t look the way I imagined it in my head. The streets look a little empty. I was expecting something like what the footage showed outside in the first movie. I’m not really digging the whole masks and motorcycles thing either. Well, it could be good. We’ll see.

  • Krug09

the first one was a so so movie. kind of stupid and underwhelming with potential. this one (sadly) looks like a good movie with bad acting FROM THE COUPLE. the stills make this look amazing though. it feels like the warriors mixed with manhunt. that would be cool if it doesnt follow those two because there acting takes me out of the movie from what i saw. hopefully they die after a few mins lol and some better actors come in.

  • pyrepunk

Well first off I hated this first film because it took a great idea and contained it in such a small way…this one seems to cater to the idea that the concept would work better not as a home invasion movie and looks somewhat good. I just don’t know though the first movie really turned me off to these films and jeez I’m just on the fence as much as I love the whole concept of the movies. I do think a three-parter would be cool though. Then maybe watching them in one long sitting would be better. Idk. I’m rambling. Sigh…. lol

I liked the 1st movie.the trailer looks like a lower budget then the first!i have a bad feeling about this one!!!

  • MinaDoll7

I honestly liked the first movie despite some flaws and the annoying spoiled kids. I love the concept of the annual Purge that’s why im pretty excited for this one, expanding the action outside the house. i’d love to see how the Purge affected society since it was barely explored in the first, the kinds of thing people do in the span of 12hrs, like targeting people for money, business stuff, clash of the classes, the effect it has on religion, marketing, economy, and media and such. besides, im a sucker for what-would-you-do-in-this-situation movies.

  • woodchuck

Looks way better than the first one

  • Haley Lavassaur

I wish the United States would allow us to purge freely.. there are some true dipshits in the world..

  • kaido

My only question is, does it take place after last years Purge or is it the same night?
