‘Metro Redux’ Arrives This Summer, is So Much More Than a HD Port

Published

on

We haven’t seen anything from develoepr 4A Games’ upcoming “HD” port of their ridiculously good Metro series. That is, until now. Today, they released a bevy of content, including a debut trailer, screenshots and box art. Having played the first two games numerous times each, I wasn’t sure whether or not I’d be picking this up, but not it’s clear to me that they’re making sure Metro Redux is way more than a simple port to current gen consoles.

For one, Redux will bring with it improved visuals (duh), smooth 60fps gameplay (thank you), and never-before-seen content. The original game, 2033, will likely benefit the most from the HD remastering, but visual improvements aside, they’ve also reworked the enemy AI, which if you played it back in 2010, you’ll likely remember it wasn’t all that great.

2033 will also see a few of the tweaks 4A made with Last Light, including the nifty mask wipe’ mechanic, weapon customization, and silent kills and takedowns.

I will definitely be getting my hands on Metro Redux when it releases this summer on PC, PS4, and Xbox One for $49.99.

Legendary Grimdark ‘Warhammer 40,000’ Artist John Blanche Has Passed Away at 78

In the grim darkness of the far future there is only war, but it was a cheerful illustrator from England who helped to define the terrifying war-torn imagery that inspired what we now know as Grimdark (a hybrid genre combining horror with sci-fi/fantasy).

Unfortunately for fans of Warhammer 40,000, Trench Crusade and countless other sources of Grimdark thrills, veteran artist John Blanche passed away this week after struggling with health issues for the past few years.

While the artist retired back in 2023, he leaves us with an enormous legacy of iconic artwork that continues to inspire gamers and storytellers around the world to this very day.

The news is especially gloomy as it was only last year that Daniel Lowman and Napoleon Dynamite himself Jon Heder released The Grim & the Dark: The Search for John Blanche, a documentary following Heder’s exploration of the Grimdark genre culminating in a heartwarming encounter with Blanche in his own home.

Below is one of my favorite pieces by Blanche, his highly influential depiction of Warhammer 40k’s God-Emperor of Mankind on his Golden Throne.

We send our deepest condolences to John Blanche’s family, friends, and fans.
