As many of you have probably heard by now, fast food chain Burger King is introducing a new type of burger for the Halloween season. Titled the “A.1. Halloween Whopper Sandwich”, which they claim is “deliciously dark“, the sandwich features, “…¼ lb. of savory flame-grilled beef topped with melted American cheese, ripe tomatoes, crisp iceberg lettuce, creamy mayonnaise, A.1.® Thick and Hearty Sauce, crunchy pickles, and sliced white onions on a soft sesame seed bun with A.1.® flavor baked into the bun.”
Now, let’s discuss the ingredients and how they are representative of Halloween. Is it the A.1. steak sauce? Nah, I can get that all year round. What about American cheese? I mean, with the exception of some Wisconsin and Vermont cheeses, the US’s cheese is pretty horrific. Still, I’m not buying it. Ripe tomatoes? I highly doubt anything that falls under the vegetation category at Burger King could ever be considered “ripe”.
OH WAIT! It’s the black bun! Duh, haha! I mean, it’s so Halloween spooky because…well…it’s….fuck me, I don’t know. Do they really think that a black bun is scary? That it’s a good representation of Halloween? C’mon Burger King, you can do better than that. How about a candy corn milkshake (which sounds disgusting but it’s better than this abomination) or somehow toasting buns to have a jack o’lantern face seared into the top? There ya go, two ideas off the top of my head that have more Halloween spirit in them than a black bun burger. Hit me up on Twitter for my royalty check.
Okay, I’ll fully admit that the idea of this is fun. Plus, I bet it gets Burger King a spike in sales. After all, these gimmick burgers are meant to drive up profits while being a novelty. If you grab one, let me know how it tastes! Maybe the taste is the scariest thing about it!
