Hey You Guys, Jill Valentine is Cosplaying as Herself

Published

on

Resident Evil cosplay came full circle earlier this week when actor Julia Voth decided to bring a certain S.T.A.R.S. officer to life. This may be the pinnacle of Jill Valentine cosplay, folks. Voth, as you may already know, is the real human being who portrayed Capcom’s leading lady in the GameCube remake of the original Resident Evil.

I believe what we’re witnessing here is a genuine Ouroboros. It’s not the same Uroboros that Wesker kept droning on about until he took a rocket to the face, but I’ll take Voth’s Valentine over a legion of leech monsters any day. Have a look at her in the gallery below.

The idea came from a fan who asked Voth to cosplay as the character she helped make iconic, even going so far as to give her a custom S.T.A.R.S beret. “I got to harness her energy and finally embody who I felt she was,” Voth told IGN.

In just a few weeks, we’ll be getting a double dose of old school survival horror when the Resident Evil 0 remaster arrives on January 19, along with the Origins Collection. Head over here for every horror game that’s expected this month.

Legendary Grimdark ‘Warhammer 40,000’ Artist John Blanche Has Passed Away at 78

In the grim darkness of the far future there is only war, but it was a cheerful illustrator from England who helped to define the terrifying war-torn imagery that inspired what we now know as Grimdark (a hybrid genre combining horror with sci-fi/fantasy).

Unfortunately for fans of Warhammer 40,000, Trench Crusade and countless other sources of Grimdark thrills, veteran artist John Blanche passed away this week after struggling with health issues for the past few years.

While the artist retired back in 2023, he leaves us with an enormous legacy of iconic artwork that continues to inspire gamers and storytellers around the world to this very day.

The news is especially gloomy as it was only last year that Daniel Lowman and Napoleon Dynamite himself Jon Heder released The Grim & the Dark: The Search for John Blanche, a documentary following Heder’s exploration of the Grimdark genre culminating in a heartwarming encounter with Blanche in his own home.

Below is one of my favorite pieces by Blanche, his highly influential depiction of Warhammer 40k’s God-Emperor of Mankind on his Golden Throne.

We send our deepest condolences to John Blanche’s family, friends, and fans.
