Whoa…’Amityville: The Awakening’ Won’t Release Until Next Year

There are delays and then there’s this

It’s official: Dimension Films will delay the release Amityville: The Awakening, the official Amityville Horror sequel, which was scheduled for release on the first of April. Now, the studio will distribute the film wide on January 6, 2017.

I guess the Amityville franchise is as cursed as they say?

As I stated earlier, the news comes on the heels of reports of various test screening in Los Angeles. And buzz is that they were nervous to go up against Batman V. Superman in its second week of release.

Maniac director Franck Khalfoun has had his film retitled, retooled ands recut multiple times since its initial delay in September of 2014.

In Amityville: The Awakening, “Belle, her little sister, and her comatose twin brother move into a new house with their single mother Joan in order to save money to help pay for her brother’s expensive healthcare. But when strange phenomena begin to occur in the house including the miraculous recovery of her brother, Belle begins to suspect her Mother isn’t telling her everything and soon realizes they just moved into the infamous Amityville house.

Jennifer Jason Leigh, Bella Thorne, McKenna Grace, Cameron Monaghan, Taylor Spreitler, Thomas Mann and Jennifer Morrison star.

Fucking A Brad proofread for fuck’s sake. Say it with me he directed MA-NI-AC.

BAHAHAHAHAHHA and ANOTHER release date. God love Dimension Films.

    • Thanks for pointing that out! Much appreciated. Just fixed it.

  • chanelxwaldorf

Sigh. I wasn’t excited for this or anything but I LOVE Bella Thorne. They will keep delaying it and delaying it and it will probably end up like The Poughkeepsie Tapes.

  • Graham

What is even the point anymore? Just dump it on VOD and be done with it.

  • Khy

Sad part about it? When it does releases after all these cuts, all these reshoots, all these release changes- it’s going to flop and get bashed.

Damn, why couldn’t they just stick with the damn January 2015 release date? Trailer looked great and it was perfect timing.

I just don’t get it. Why even keep trying to release this theatrically? Amityville isn’t a major horror franchise nor is it an exactly “hot property”. Just release it on video and call it a day.

  • Khy

And then pulling it after releasing TV spots and trailers? That’s some sloppy ass shit.

  • Vader the White

Wow. I think the only thing that can sum this up is the word fail. Thank goodness that I have zero interest in this film or I would have been disappointed (like I was for the delay of Friday the 13th).

TRICK ‘R TREAT and CELL (the King story starring John Cusack) also likes this post! 🙂

    • I hate that they do this with such great movies. (Or in the case of The Awakening, movies that could be great but may also not be)… Also, couldn’t help but picture Parkey Posey in Scream 3 when I read your comment (“My lawyer liked that”)

  • Maybe Dimension thinks they can cram in even MORE reshoots between now and then. Not that I wish ill will on the company, but I can’t wait for the years after they close their doors for good for the tell-all documentary on the Weinsteins.

    • They are doing a TON of work on the movie. They changed arcs, even. New endings, too.

      • I’m always curious to see films tinkered like this in their original state. Like Cursed, after all the reshoots on that (new characters, changing the leads from a couple to brother and sister, removing Rick Baker’s work) it be cool to one day see the original. Won’t happen. But it’d be cool.

  • DarkBree

Oh no, again? I hate the Weinsteins!!

  • Anthony Steven Malave

So Dimension is still advertising a movie that’s been rescheduled? I don’t understand. Is this some kind of early April Fool’s joke?

    • It’s crazy, right? I see ads all over MTV.

      • Anthony Steven Malave

Not that I don’t trust you guys or the other horror sites, but, I’m still waiting to see them officially announce it. I went on their FB page and commented on their most recent post regarding the movie, which was less than 24 hours ago I think. It doesn’t make any sense at all.

  • Cole9678

What are they trimming it to a PG now? >.>

    • I’m hearing some crazy stuff. By the time it comes out it will have been 3 years!

      • MammaJuneBug

3 years to perfect garbage dooty piles into bigger dooty piles.

  • Seal Clubber

So wierd …. all these re-cuts of the movie and three years of delays does not bode well for the quality of the movie …..

  • MammaJuneBug

Is it because it should have went to VHS? Yes I said VHS . It doesn’t deserve a DVD

    • David

THAT’S FUCKING harsh, Mamma Fat Fuck. I’m sure people want to see this but the higher ups are scared little bitches. How about this: Rated R, Asshats. Hook up the fans with a R horror movie.

      • This movie looked like pure ass from the trailer and that was before i knew the rating

      • MammaJuneBug

Again . 13 year old can see it on Sunday with their friends like you!

  • Rick-Taylor

Forget the house, they should just make a movie about living in Amityville. Much scarier.

  • Lol

Sad thing is they just now started the tv spots for this movie and decided on a whim to release the movie next year. Just release it on DVD and get on with it if you’re constantly going to do shit like this..

  • Does anyone actually wanna see this? I remember seeing a trailer and it looked so unbelievably mediocre

  • Adam Clifton

I’d like to see a direct sequel to Amityville 2. I wonder what that kid’s life would be like after he had the demon exorcised from him? Knowing that he screwed his sister and killed her and the rest of his family

  • BlubberNugget

Just throw this piece of shit on VOD or shelve it.

  • Lucca Cantisano

I know why they’re changing it so much: it was a genuine good movie, so Dimension got worried it would flop…

  • Steve Brewster

The documentary about the real Amityville kid is was better then any of the movies.

  • chris hayes

    Delayed till April 1st 2019 – I’m calling it now……

  • gabriel

Now it will go up against all of the oscar nominated movies of the year. Genius
