“A new beginning for horror films.”

Every few years a genre movie comes along that changes everything. Only, we’ve been waiting for that game-changer since the 2009 release of Paranormal Activity.

This all changes on September 16th, 2016 when Lionsgate leaves audiences lost in The Woods.

Bloody Disgusting readers already know director Adam Wingard, who helmed V/H/S and V/H/S/2 for Bloody Disgusting, not to mention the awesome The Guest and You’re Next. But when The Woods releases this fall, he will become a household name.

The Woods is written by his longtime collaborator Simon Barrett, and while many of the details are being kept submerged, it does “involve a group of college students on a camping trip who discover they are not alone.

James Allen McCune, Callie Hernandez, Brandon Scott, Valorie Curry, Corbin Reid, and Wes Robinson star.

Lionsgate is starting the hype early, having just released the first teaser and poster for what will be known as “one of the scariest movies ever made.”

Yes, I’m putting my full weight behind The Woods in a way that I haven’t done since Paranormal Activity. It’s terrifying. It’s rattling. It’s next level.

That’s all you get for now, but to you should really click here for updates.

If you need an extra push, check this: Roy Lee (The Ring, The Grudge, The Strangers, It), Steven Schneider (Paranormal Activity, Insidious), Keith Calder and Jessica Wu (You’re Next, The Guest) are the producers.

Filming is underway on The Invisible Man director Leigh Whannell’s Wolf Man for Universal and Blumhouse, which will be howling its way into theaters on January 17, 2025.

Deadline reports that Matilda Firth (Disenchanted) is the latest actor to sign on, joining Christopher Abbott (Poor Things),  Julia Garner (The Royal Hotel), and Sam Jaeger.

The project will mark Whannell’s second monster movie and fourth directing collaboration with Blumhouse Productions (The Invisible Man, Upgrade, Insidious: Chapter 3).

Wolf Man stars Christopher Abbott as a man whose family is being terrorized by a lethal predator.

Writers include Whannell & Corbett Tuck as well as Lauren Schuker Blum & Rebecca Angelo.

Jason Blum is producing the film. Ryan Gosling, Ken Kao, Bea Sequeira, Mel Turner and Whannell are executive producers. Wolf Man is a Blumhouse and Motel Movies production.

In the wake of the failed Dark Universe, Leigh Whannell’s The Invisible Man has been the only real success story for the Universal Monsters brand, which has been struggling with recent box office flops including the comedic Renfield and period horror movie The Last Voyage of the Demeter. Giving him the keys to the castle once more seems like a wise idea, to say the least.
