‘Terminator’ Rises Next Year On iOS and Android

Published

on

Plarium is bringing Terminator: Genisys to iOS and Android devices early next year with a free-to-play clan-based MMO based on the film. Set at the very beginning of the Robo-Revolution, after Skynet initiated a nuclear apocalypse that effectively ended the world as we know it. To survive, what’s left of humanity is forced to come together as The Resistance, until inner turmoil over dwindling resources puts the already shaky alliance in jeopardy.

In the mobile strategy game, players will take control of a Resistance Commander or a Skynet Command Node as the opposing forces clash over the charred landscape Earth has become.

“Mobile games have incredible potential to expand the universe of characters and experiences we have created for a movie and provide audiences and fans with a brand new perspective on our content,” said Jesse Sisgold, COO at Skydance Media. “Plarium has had great success in creating state-of-the-art MMO titles and we look forward to working with them to bring our Terminator franchise to mobile devices in highly engaging new ways.”

Plarium specializes in mobile MMOs, like Vikings: War of Clans, and the Stormfall and Total Domination series. In September, the company announced its plans to bring Aliens vs. Predator to its popular Facebook game Soldiers Inc..

“We all grew up on the Terminator franchise as kids, and bringing the essence of Terminator Genisys to a game together with the innovative team at Skydance is a great aspiration we took on,” added Leonard Frankel, Head of Business Development for Plarium. “In this game we will call upon our players to pick sides and make history: help humanity prevail or crush it. This will be Epic!”

Wipe out the human race, or save it from extinction. Recent world events might make that a tough choice.

Legendary Grimdark ‘Warhammer 40,000’ Artist John Blanche Has Passed Away at 78

In the grim darkness of the far future there is only war, but it was a cheerful illustrator from England who helped to define the terrifying war-torn imagery that inspired what we now know as Grimdark (a hybrid genre combining horror with sci-fi/fantasy).

Unfortunately for fans of Warhammer 40,000, Trench Crusade and countless other sources of Grimdark thrills, veteran artist John Blanche passed away this week after struggling with health issues for the past few years.

While the artist retired back in 2023, he leaves us with an enormous legacy of iconic artwork that continues to inspire gamers and storytellers around the world to this very day.

The news is especially gloomy as it was only last year that Daniel Lowman and Napoleon Dynamite himself Jon Heder released The Grim & the Dark: The Search for John Blanche, a documentary following Heder’s exploration of the Grimdark genre culminating in a heartwarming encounter with Blanche in his own home.

Below is one of my favorite pieces by Blanche, his highly influential depiction of Warhammer 40k’s God-Emperor of Mankind on his Golden Throne.

We send our deepest condolences to John Blanche’s family, friends, and fans.
