The Evil Dead universe just got a whole lot groovier.

Lee Majors (pictured above; Do You Believe) will play the role of Brock Williams, Ash’s father, in the second season of Starz’s “Ash vs Evil Dead”. “He’s even grumpier than Ash,” Campbell told EW, who also shared the image.

It was also previously reported that cult horror movie favorite Ted Raimi will play the role of Ash’s childhood best friend, Chet Kaminski.

The cast is led by Bruce Campbell (Evil Dead, “Burn Notice”) in the role of Ash Williams; Lucy Lawless (“Salem,” “Spartacus”) as Ruby, who now possesses the powerful Necronomicon; Ray Santiago (“Touch,” Meet the Fockers) as Pablo Simon Bolivar, Ash’s loyal sidekick dealing with the trauma he suffered in the cabin; and Dana DeLorenzo (Harold and Kumar Christmas) as Kelly Maxwell, who, grief-stricken after the death of her parents, plots revenge against The Evil Dead.

“Pablo’s got a crazy journey this year,” Campbell continues. “The stuff he goes through makes my life seem easy. I think we’re going to find out that he’s not just Ash’s sidekick. I don’t think Ray had any idea what was coming. Some of the horrors that await Pablo…”

Ash starts the season enjoying the good life in Jacksonville, Fla. “We find Ash right where he wants to be: having keggers, and hanging with chicks, and living the good life in Jacksonville,” says Campbell. “He’s through with all this business. No strings on him. And what could possibly go wrong, right?” So much does, of course, and it forces Pablo, Kelly (Dana DeLorenzo), and Ash to head to the latter’s hometown of Elk Grove, Mich. “Things go massively wrong,” says the actor. “Things turn south, so the team has to turn north. [This season] it’s ‘Ash goes home.’”

The second season of the Starz Original series “Ash vs Evil Dead” will be 10 half-hour episodes.

Sam Raimi serves as executive producer on “Ash vs Evil Dead” with Rob Tapert (Evil Dead, “Spartacus,” Xena: Warrior Princess”), Bruce Campbell (Evil Dead, “Burn Notice”) and Ivan Raimi (Drag Me To Hell, Spider-Man 3) along with Craig DiGregorio (“Workaholics,” “Chuck”) who serves as executive producer/showrunner. Aaron Lam (“Spartacus”) and Moira Grant (“Spartacus”) serve as producers.

Dead Mail SXSW Dead Mail interview

One of the genre films we’re looking forward to checking out at SXSW this year is Dead Mail, written and directed by Joe DeBoer and Kyle McConaghy and premiering on March 9.

Meagan Navarro will be reviewing Dead Mail for Bloody Disgusting as part of her SXSW coverage, and she writes in her preview for the upcoming fest: “Dead Mail leans heavily into the ’80s analog aesthetic, delivering a unique crime thriller unafraid to get offbeat with its dark narrative. Expect its characters to be as atypical as Dead Mail‘s sense of style.”

In the SXSW 2024 horror film…

“On a desolate, Midwestern county road, a bound man crawls towards a remote postal box, managing to slide a blood-stained plea-for-help message into the slot before a panicking figure closes in behind him. The note makes its way to the county post office and onto the desk of Jasper, a seasoned and skilled “dead letter” investigator, responsible for investigating lost mail and returning it to its sender. As he investigates further, Jasper meets Trent, a strange yet unassuming man who has taken up residence at the men’s home where Jasper lives.

“When Trent unexpectedly shows up at Jasper’s office, it becomes clear he has a vested interest in the note, and will stop at nothing to retrieve it…”

Sterling Macer, Jr., John Fleck, Susan Priver, Micki Jackson, Tomas Boykin, and Nick Heyman star in Dead Mail. Preview the film with an exclusive image gallery below.
