“American Horror Story” Season 7 Theme Teased?!

One of the fun things about FX’s “American Horror Story” is trying to decipher clues and figure out what each season will be about. I’d say everyone (including us) is always wrong, but it doesn’t mean playing the game isn’t a good time.

This past Wednesday FX aired the season finale of “Roanoke”, which has me swearing off the show for good (who am I kidding, we all know I’ll watch it again next season). Just before the 10th episode aired, FX tweeted out a short promo that looked as if they were signing off for the year, but on closer examination appears to be an early clue as to what the seventh season will be about.

Below is the promo that says “sweet dreams,” while also adding that “all of the monsters are gone,” neither of which have anything to do with “Roanoke”. On the other hand, visually there’s a body of water as well as a flash of the “Roanoke” stickmen. Now that we know the seasons are crossing over, could Season 7 somehow tie into “Roanoke”?

Here’s our best guess thanks to โ€@JDGriff23: Roanoke is on the outer banks of North Carolina. We never see the coast, although there is a historical tie-in… Did you know that Blackbeard’s (Edward Teach) ship was discovered on the coast of North Carolina? Did you know that there’s a ghost story attached to his lore?

Here’s how it all went down, ending with Blackbeard being decaptitated and his head being displayed on the ship’s bowsprit.

Blackbeard’s reign on the high seas came to an end on November 22, 1718. Virginia Governor Alexander Spotswood sent a ship commanded by John Maynard down to the North Carolina coast to track down and kill Blackbeard. Maynard surprised Blackbeard and a skeleton crew anchored at Teach’s Hole. In the ferocious battle that followed, Blackbeard was shot five times and stabbed no less than twenty. The pirate crew was all killed or captured.

Blackbeard’s head was chopped off and hung from the bowsprit of Maynard’s ship. The pirate’s headless body was thrown overboard. Legend has it that the headless body swam around Maynard’s ship three times before sinking below the waters.

Ever since then, it’s been said that Blackbeard’s ghost haunts the spot known as Teach’s Hole. Many people have reported seeing a strange light moving beneath the water in the cove. This ghostly light is thought by some to be Blackbeard’s spirit, swimming through the waters, searching for his missing head.

There are those who believe that on stormy nights you can hear Blackbeard’s voice calling out in the wind. On nights when the angry wind is roaring and the hard rain coming down, many people have heard a horrible roaring coming from this hidden cove. They say that it’s a unearthly noise that sounds like a pained human voice bellowing “Where’s my head?”

But wait, there’s more evidence! If we revisit the Season 6 finale, there’s a sequence with the “Spirit Chasers” who, while investigating a loud crash, catch a shot of a model ship that’s fallen on the ground. Here’s the exact moment that lends more credence to the concept of a ship-themed seventh season…

Again, this is all speculation and part of the fun. The theme here is that the wait and guessing game is always better than the show. I thought “Roanoke” was awful, but at 10 episodes I can bear through it. I can only hope that one of these days Ryan Murphy and co. deliver the perfect horror story.

What do you guys think? It’s a pirate’s life for me…

i hope it’s not connected to Roanoke at all. i’m sorry but that finale sucked ass. the only part of it i semi-liked was Lana Winters and even she felt forced/shoehorned in and unnecessary.

    • khail19

      but always welcome?

      • J Jett

LOL. i think Lana IS always welcome! ๐Ÿ™‚

  • Otterlee

Ninjas > pirates. Sorry, but it’s an established fact. The show is going to have to step it up pretty good if they want to keep us watching. I think the only reason we’re watching is there’s nothing else on Wednesday nights.

  • I think I’m done with AHS!
Roanoke had a good beginning but the last 2 episodes destroyed the whole season. For me, the season finale was the worst I’ve seen, there are a lot of things that don’t make sense and that opening ending was a crap.

  • richp_91

I would love that SEAson. I think a ghost ship would be creepy.

  • David Nagle

I THOUGH HOTEL was way better than Roanoke season 6 defo lacked somthing plus i missed the opening theme music that in all the other AHS seasons they need to bring that back ๐Ÿ™‚

    • Mackey

Agreed. The opening theme music were highlights of the first five seasons.

    • I don’t agree with the Hotel comment but totally with you on the title sequence. That was always the most exciting bit about the new season of AHS!

  • Gluke

I feel like I’m in the minority here, but I really liked Roanoke. Maybe that’s because the only other season I’ve ever watched is Freakshow (which I thought was alright.)
I guess I like a little action mixed in with my horror, which Roanoke had.

    • zombie84_41

I enjoyed roanoke for its difference.

  • Kristoffer Groves

Meh. I still want to see AHS – Summer Camp

  • zombie84_41

I really liked this season of AHS I thought it was very different. But I don’t want no more ghost stories, feels like every AHS turns into a ghost story. I just want something creepy and fun, it be cool if next season they get the fans to write in what they want and get fan made stuff.

I got a cool way for them when its time to end AHS, we go back to ASYLUM and we see all the pass characters in their and they are all telling the stories that we saw as the camera pans outside the building and turns around we see the words AMERICAN HORROR STORY.

    • Bla Blah

I think every season thus far has had ghosts at some point or another. I guess because its an easy “scary” thing to do. Honestly, I just think they are running out of ideas of where to go. They had ghosts and murderers in the first season, alien/demons and murderers in the second, ghost and witches in the third, ghost, scary clowns, freaks in the 4th, vampires in the 5th, and more ghosts in the 6th.
Seems like eventually we’ll get werewolves or someother shit with ghosts thrown in.

      • zombie84_41

Ya its getting kind of stupid. And its sad, because there is so many ideas to be done, and can be done. I just think it boils down to lazyness. should change the name to Shock Value because thats what the show has become.

  • Imani Hill

This season wasn’t as bad as some people may have stated. I think it was just different from the other seasons, that it just caught some people by surprise. I would like to see what they are going to do next season.

  • Mackey

Roanoke had it’s moments. I thought the way it started out was clever (My Roanoke Nightmare, Return to Roanoke). The final episode was tedious with the show within a show that’s actually in another show that’s actually part of another show, etc., etc., etc.
The appearance of Lana Winters was a wasted opportunity (plus wouldn’t she be in her seventies by now?).

    • FromTheAshes21

By her voice it seemed to imply she was much-older, but visually they didn’t do enough to age her.

  • Pretty sure if you clutch anymore at those straws there’ll be no straws left to clutch at.

Series hasn’t been good over 5 minutes and people are already desperately trying to find clues of the theme for season 7. Calm down dear

    • Bla Blah

….? Are you not familiar with AHS? The 5th season was teased at the end of the 3rd season (which Ryan had specifically told fans to look out for), the 3rd season was teased at the end of the of the second, what with the song “Season Of The Witch” playing in the background of one scene, and that is just one of the many examples. The promo for the 3rd season clues you in to all the characters who die (the ones wearing black all die by the end of the season, the ones wearing white live, and the one in grey, Evan Peters character, dies but is brought back). AHS is kind of known for teasing things. It makes complete since people are looking for clues.

      • Yes I’m aware of the clues and easter eggs linking the seasons (not sure where Coven linked to Hotel though, do you mean the Top Hat thing in Freak Show?), and I know why people are looking for clues. I’m all for it, I just think this article is too much too soon.

The clip has water and a flash of stick figures > Roanoke is set somewhere near water > Blackbeard’s boat was found near there > There’s a spooky story about Blackbeard > American Horror Story – Pirates.

I can see how it could work, but I think it’s a bit farfetched. If I’m wrong then I’m wrong, but personally American Horror Story Pirates sounds awful so I hope I’m not

    • Nick Botic

…you must be a new fan

      • No, just a cynical one

  • No, no, no! No more crossing over the seasons! The Lana Winters thing was totally unnecessary this season and only added to what was possibly the messiest ending yet… not to mention that this season didn’t even begin to explain why half of what was happening was happening. Roanoke was a very interesting concept, just messy.

Personally I am hoping the next season has no more ghosts and does something like AHS: Bunnyman, AHS: Full Moon (werewolves), AHS: Lake Monster, AHS: Bigfoot, AHS: Poe! Anything but more haunted buildings and ghosts!

  • Peter Johnson

I just want to see an American Horror Story version of Twin Peaks. Why not make a storyline set in a small, secluded town. Or, maybe another period piece, this time being a western ghost town or something.

  • Bla Blah

i don’t want any more historical stuff. Please. I was fond of this season, but id much prefer sticking to the modern day stuff.

  • Dr. Gitrog Crow

The whole Sweet Dreams over an ocean makes me think of Call of Cthulhu. It’d be awesome to see them try to work Lovecraftian cosmic horror into AHS.
