Psst! Wanna See Rihanna as Marion Crane in “Bates Motel”?

We just learned that A&E’s “Bates Motel” returns for its fifth and final season on February 20th.

The biggest selling point is that R&B artist Rihanna will play the role of Marion Crane, the iconic guest that appeared in Alfred Hitchcock’s Psycho and didn’t exactly meet a happy ending. Crane was originally played by Janet Leigh, the mother of Jamie Lee Curtis.

While we’ll have to wait for an official look, Rihanna was spotted on set with red hair and sporting a similar suit to Leigh’s character in Psycho. There’s nothing particularly special about the shots other than giving us our first glance at what’s to come.

We wanted to thrust the iconic role into a contemporary spotlight and redefine it in a meaningful and exciting new way,” Executive producers Carlton Cuse and Kerry Ehrin stated at last year’s Comic-Con. “We also heard Rihanna was a fan of the show, and we were huge fans of hers, so it was the perfect collision of creativity and fate.

Cuse had also talked with EW and assured them that even though people have seen Psycho, they won’t be able to anticipate what’s coming for their take on Crane. “We are going to meet Marion Crane, but what we don’t want to do is create the impression that we’re redoing the movie because we’re not at all. She’s a very different person in the movie and her story plays out in a different way,” he explained.

Freddie Highmore is returning as Norman, obviously, with Vera Farmiga as his mother, Norma.

Highmore, Nestor Carbonell, and Max Theriot each direct at least one episode in the upcoming season.

Jacking off with a cross is overrated.

While this does seem like an odd casting choice, and could very well be stunt casting, I have faith in Cuse and Ehrin because I’ve been super impressed with Bates Motel so far.

Rihanna is most certainly not the main selling point of the coming season. It’s been a great show and it will be terrific to see it concluded. It will also be cool in ten years or so to see a return of it when Highmore is a bit older. The selling point to this coming season is seeing how it all plays out. Very few people are going to be tuning in to see Rihanna’s acting ability.

U may think she’s ugly but the majority of people whould say she’s good looking

      • Saturn

I think if you re-read what Chris said, it becomes apparent that the comment was talking tongue-in-cheek.

The fact you replied to it twice, defending Rihanna’s looks, shows us otherwise.

          • Saturn

If you didn’t care about Chris’ comment, why did you reply?

    Shes so fucking sexy

    • Andy Maas

      Exactly

      • zombie84_41

I honestly don’t care what people are saying about the character and complaining saying whatever they be saying. I know for sure she will kill it. And I hope they do keep that infamous shower scene though and do it in b&W

  • Seems like im the only one who is here for this. Rihanna is pure, she has a innocent look to her when she wants to. It will make her scene especially gripping when we see such a beautiful person get butchered the way Marion originally did

    • Saturn

As long as she doesn’t get under the shower with her umbrella.

        ella ella eh eh

  • MadCows

    Dumb.

  • Why is Will Smith in Bates Motel and what’s with that wig he’s wearing?

  • Redsam6

    No.

  • Erik The Red

I guess she’s better than Beyonce and Gaga. No much better. They all suck at acting. Singers and rappers are not actors. I like the show but her choice is out of place and appears to be a publicity stunt.

    • Daniel Anderson

50 cent is the best actor past, present and future.

      • Erik The Red

        LOL

  • THGrimm

    Sweet picture.

  • Daniel Anderson

Haven’t seen the show, but wouldn’t mind hearing about its conclusion and how Rihanna’s portrayal added or removed from it. I’ll give her the benefit of the doubt before I make a conclusion.

  • ZIPPY

Will she be swallowing a knob?

  • Flu-Like Symptoms

The show could’ve closed out after this season just fine without this silly PR move.

  • Maxime C

I’ve loved the show so far and I really hope she’s not here for publicity only. It would be a shame to ruin this special thing we’ve been waiting for 4 years.
The show has gotten so so dark and good last year, crossing fingers for a good conclusion.

  • Mark Andrew Glinka

As far as I’m concerned, the previous season finale was the series finale. It was perfect. Casting Rihanna in an ICONIC Hitchcock, BLONDE MUSE role is just pissing all over the original. Alfred is rolling in his grave.
