Tons of Badass New Footage in New “Friday the 13th: The Game” Trailer

Oh boy is this one violent.

This year’s PAX East video game festival is taking over Boston, Massachusetts from today through Sunday, and the fine folks behind the upcoming “Friday the 13th: The Game” were on hand to show off a brand new trailer. Couldn’t make it to the event? We’ve got you covered.

Below you’ll find the official PAX East 2017 trailer for the game, which is packed with new locales, new counselors and several never before seen kills. It’s INSANELY BRUTAL, featuring some of the coolest kills in the history of the Friday the 13th franchise. The trailer also gives you glimpses of various Jason skins, including Jason Lives, The New Blood, and Jason Goes to Hell.

Crank up the volume and enjoy!

Gun Media and developer Illfonic’s “Friday the 13th: The Game”, initially announced as “Slasher Vol. 1: Summer Camp”, was funded through Kickstarter back in 2015.

The game’s full multiplayer component will become available in early 2017 and include Tommy Jarvis as a playable character. Movie setting Packanack Lodge will also be included in this release as a third playable map. This initial release will be followed by the full Summer 2017 release of the single-player component, including AI Bots.

Players who pre-order the game in digital or physical form will receive the single player component at no additional charge.

Oh…my…GOD! This looks bad ass and brutal as hell! Love the cinematography! So ready for this to be released!!!

  • Ocelot006 .

I want a sandbox Friday The 13th game in the style of Shadow Of Mordor…..but I can only dream.

  • turk

Graphically, not too impressive. But hopefully, the gameplay will make up for it. One thing that does bug me is that the “sack head” Jason looks like he’s 6’7″. Jason didn’t start to turn into a massive hulk until well after Part II, where he was fairly average sized.

  • nicholasmwalker

body swapping jason… that would be cool!

    • sblast13

I love how one of the biggest controversies within the Friday the 13th mythos, the idea of Jason being able to body swap, is now a great idea for this video game.

Don’t get me wrong, I think it’s a great idea too and the idea of body swapping never actually bothered me. Just the idea of something so hated within the fandom could be a interesting perk for Goes To Hell Jason to do in the game.

      • nicholasmwalker

well it’s possible that everyone will hate that idea… i just happen to really like JGTH.

        • Kori Batchelor

I liked it, too. Fun flick.

  • Charlie

I’m typically a gameplay over graphics person but I’m kind of surprised at how poor the graphics look on this game. Anyways, I’ll wait to see what the reviews say about the game when it is released.

  • Looks awful, the graphics are horrible and the unfortunately the gameplay seems to be very simple.
This game would be a masterpiece with a good and interactive story. Imagine a mix between Until Dawn and Resident Evil 7!

    • Now I had an amazing idea for a good sandbox horror game with a lot of 80s/90s villains (Jason, Freddy Krueger, Michael Myers, Leatherface,…).
Imagine a group of teenagers doing a horror movie marathon, however an accident happens and they travel to inside of every horror film. Now they need to survive and kill every villain to go back to the real life. There are some districts to explore as Elm Street, Crystal Lake, Haddonfield, the Hewitt’s territory in Texas and the woods of Evil Dead). We could see a lot of famous characters of the 80s films and try to save them in some missions.

The multiplayer would be awesome, something like the game of Friday the 13th but with more killers and more locations.

    • Travis_Bickle

      Don’t play it then..duh…

  • Maximillian

Love the films they still to this day freak the fuck out of me lol

This looks awesome the graphics don’t look bad but maybe they will freshen that up as well before they fully release it.

  • Khy

    Looks fun

    • Prince Of Darkness

That’s what you said when you went to the Jerry Sandusky pee wee football camp as a child.

      • Khy

You want to sit there and shame someone for wanting to see a film from Victor Salva as if you’re some moral God YET you enjoy tormenting a sexual assault survivor?
You are the reason for abortions.

        • Prince Of Darkness

You are what happens when monsters create monsters, and I betcha he chuckles everyday when he thinks about it.

          • Khy

How the fuck do you sleep at night? FUCK off. I’m warning you

      • ScriptGiverrrr

        Seriously dude, you’re evil.

  • marklola12 .

game looks shit as fuck lol, if it had come out in 2007 made by a team of 3 then yeh but looks so bad, graphics, physics all the clipping, the character movements everything

    • Blade4693

Yeah it looks like a PS3/360 game in most parts. I want this game to do well but with these graphics I don’t think it will.

  • Blade4693

Wow that spear kill was beautifully done!

Now I love Friday as much as everyone else here, I adore it and will be getting this but it worries me that the graphics look like a PS3/360 game. I know people say it’s beta/unfinished but I just can’t see the graphics improving all that much. I promise critics will destroy this game if it releases with these graphics. Not that I care about their opinions but casuals do…

    • MySelfDestruct

I can’t imagine them improving much. I think it will mostly just be entertaining but I can’t imagine the look changing that much at this point.

  • RJ MacReady

I always thought the ‘burlap sack over the head’ Jason was creepier than the hockey mask wearing Jason. Cool to see it is in the game.

  • McGilli

So glad I was actually alive when the first F13 movies came out. Growing up playing video games since back then – you have perspective on how graphics don’t make a good game good: It only makes it nice looking.

    • bastardjackyll

Hear, hear! People are complaining that “it looks like a PS3 game!” as if that’s a bad thing.

  • The Lunatic Fringe

Not that I’m not super excited for the game, but can we talk about how awesome that song was? That was 80s throwback done perfectly. Give me an entire album of that.

    • MaryMaria

You weren’t kidding! That was awesome!

    • HorrorMovieSoundtrack

Dude, have you heard their other song, XIII?

      • Weresmurf

That’s friggin’ magnificent. It’s like they’re channelling my youth :O

      • The Lunatic Fringe

Omg these guys are amazing lol. I’ve heard other bands try to do this kind of throwback sound, but this is literally the first time I’ve heard it done well.

        • remcycle

Even if the lyrics are terrible lol.

STEEL PANTHER nails the 80s hair band sound PERFECTLY although the lyrics are, well, pretty explicit (read: hilarious!).

    • Ulch… I came to the comments just to see if anyone was complaining about it. It’s awful.

      • Jesse Sikora

No it’s awesome and completely suits the Friday The 13th movies.

        • It really doesn’t represent the music from the series at all. F13 almost exclusively featured atmospheric scores. This song combines themes from F13 with the sound of an “80s rock song.” Unfortunately in this case, 80s popular music is not representative of the music throughout the series (with the exception of the credits song from Part VIII).

          • The Lunatic Fringe

I agree that it’s not at all representative of the music from the movies, but I don’t think that was the point. It was just meant to be a fun song for the trailer, which I think it was. That kind of atmospheric score that the movies had, as much as I love it, just wouldn’t work in a more action-oriented gameplay trailer like this. I could certainly see it working in a storyline trailer or announcement trailer, but not a gameplay trailer.

          • remcycle

I think it more represents a time period; the F13 series was at its peak in the mid-late 80s and cock-rock was the music of the time!

Also if you go back and watch some of the other players in the 80s horror genre (Elm 3: Dream Warriors anyone?) and even B-grade horror from that time period (Sleepaway Camp sequels come to mind right away) hair bands got quite a bit of play both in-movie and in credits sequences.

When you consider that they were actively selling these movies to the rock-and-roll-jean-jacket-long-hair crowd it makes sense.

  • J Jett

this is probably a dumb question but is it possible to actually kill/defeat Jason in this game/this type of game or is just impossible (by design)? this looks pretty cool though. the Paris Hilton kill (with the spear) from HOUSE OF WAX is pretty gnarly!

    • Kori Batchelor

I’ve heard that you can, but it requires patience and teaming up with the other counselors. If you hit him enough (mainly smacking/shooting his head) he’ll get stunned for a few seconds and everyone can wail on him. The best way to do this is to get him in a bear trap. Once you get his mask off (yep, that’s a thing) he’ll be at his weakest and it becomes possible to kill/k.o him.

      • J Jett

        thanx Kori!

    • powderedtoastman

I played the hell out of the beta and participated in a round where the goal was kill Jason. Jason stood there and we all beat him up. Eventually the mask came off but that’s as far as it went. No matter what,Jason wouldn’t die. The devs say its possible but they won’t tell us how because they want it to be a surprise. I have my theories about how it needs to be down to the last counselor (everyone NEVER makes it to the end in the movies) and possibly have to happen where he’s been killed aka in the barn/shack etc.

      • J Jett

        thanx powderedtoastman!

  • Judge Satchmo

Is anyone else impressed with how many whacks with the ax the woman in the yellow swim suit took? Three hacks in and she’s still standing!

  • Flu-Like Symptoms

Yes, the graphics look very dated and haven’t changed much at all since pre-alpha (suck it Dodd, where ever you are, TOLD YOU SO). But, after playing the beta for a week in December, I can absolutely confirm it doesn’t matter. This cat-and-mouse game is pure FUN, period. Prettier graphics is something I wouldn’t even notice. When you’re in the game, escaping Jason is the only thing on your mind (unless of course you ARE Jason). If you like video games and are a Friday the 13th fan, this is a must-have.

    • remcycle

That week of beta over Xmas was probably the most fun I’ve had gaming in years!

      Maybe ever to be honest!

  • MaryMaria

Kind of off-topic and website-related, but BD dudes- have you stopped tagging posts like these as ‘gaming news’? I went to the “Video Games” section from the top menu and the last item posted was from the end of January. It’s nice having all the gaming articles in one place!

  • Travis_Bickle

God, I will slaughter my first born for a copy of this today!! Drunk Lan parties are going to be epic.

  • Wil McMullen

Damn! Most of these kills look better then anyone of the ones depicted in that horrendous remake.

  • Chris Genth

I feel like a Virgin on prom night, that’s how excited I am for this game! I’m so glad I pre ordered my copy, single player free! Hell ya

  • Saltoner

Really hope some of the game-play and graphics are perfected by the time of release. As well as adding some sort of fun gimmick to the deaths a la MKX. With that game and the new Zelda, it’s a pretty high bar to hurdle.
