Here’s the Hellish New Jason Designed By Tom Savini for “Friday the 13th: The Game”

Published

Not only will you be able to play as every version of Jason Voorhees in this year’s “Friday the 13th: The Game, but as we recently told you, makeup FX legend Tom Savini even designed a brand new Jason for you to slay horny teens with. Savini of course designed the original Jason, seen in Friday the 13th (1980), as well as The Final Chapter‘s Jason, so there’s no better man for the job of redesigning the horror icon than he. Not surprisingly, his new Jason is BADASS.

Shown off out of PAX East 2017, Savini’s Jason is the first new Jason to be created since the 2009 Friday the 13th remake, and the model reflects Savini’s interpretation of what might have happened to Jason after the epic finale of Jason Goes to Hell. He was of course drug into the depths of Hell at the end of the movie, and the design is nothing is not, well, hellish.

Check out the new Jason below and be sure to place your pre-order so that you can play as this version of Jason; it’s essentially DLC content, available as a special pre-order option.

Gun Media and developer Illfonic’s “Friday the 13th: The Game”, initially announced as “Slasher Vol. 1: Summer Camp”, was funded through Kickstarter back in 2015.

The game’s full multiplayer component will become available in early 2017 and include Tommy Jarvis as a playable character. Movie setting Packanack Lodge will also be included in this release as a third playable map. This initial release will be followed by the full Summer 2017 release of the single-player component, including AI Bots.

Players who pre-order the game in digital or physical form will receive the single player component at no additional charge.

Legendary Grimdark ‘Warhammer 40,000’ Artist John Blanche Has Passed Away at 78

In the grim darkness of the far future there is only war, but it was a cheerful illustrator from England who helped to define the terrifying war-torn imagery that inspired what we now know as Grimdark (a hybrid genre combining horror with sci-fi/fantasy).

Unfortunately for fans of Warhammer 40,000, Trench Crusade and countless other sources of Grimdark thrills, veteran artist John Blanche passed away this week after struggling with health issues for the past few years.

While the artist retired back in 2023, he leaves us with an enormous legacy of iconic artwork that continues to inspire gamers and storytellers around the world to this very day.

The news is especially gloomy as it was only last year that Daniel Lowman and Napoleon Dynamite himself Jon Heder released The Grim & the Dark: The Search for John Blanche, a documentary following Heder’s exploration of the Grimdark genre culminating in a heartwarming encounter with Blanche in his own home.

Below is one of my favorite pieces by Blanche, his highly influential depiction of Warhammer 40k’s God-Emperor of Mankind on his Golden Throne.

We send our deepest condolences to John Blanche’s family, friends, and fans.
