Robert Englund Voiced Scarecrow in Upcoming Game ‘Injustice 2’!

Nobody has more fun being bad than Robert Englund, whose Freddy Krueger took more pleasure in slaying victims than any other horror icon. It’s a sense of pleasure that DC villain Scarecrow also derives from tormenting and torturing his prey, so it seems rather fitting that Englund would play the character. And indeed he did provide the voice for Scarecrow in Injustice 2!

A new trailer for Injustice 2, set for release on May 16th, highlights the video game sequel’s villains, and it gives you your first taste of Englund as Scarecrow. Check it out below.

Injustice 2 continues the epic cinematic story introduced in Injustice: Gods Among Us as Batman and his allies work towards putting the pieces of society back together while struggling against those who want to restore Superman’s regime. In the midst of the chaos, a new threat appears that will put Earth’s existence at risk. This long hard fought battle will end friendships, form new ones, and have more enemies.

The cast also includes Jeffrey Combs (Re-Animator) as Brainiac, along with Laura Bailey, George Newbern, Kevin Conroy, Neal McDonough, Tara Strong, Phil LaMarr and Grey DeLisle.

Awesome. It makes me think, though, that Robert is gangly enough to play Scarecrow in a movie . . . let him! I was hoping to hear Combs’ Brainiac in this trailer. That’s another good fit.

  • Jack Derwent

Wonder if they’ll address Scarecrow being killed in the comic.

    • Blade4693

I am not much of a comic guy but rumor has it he might an avatar of The Rot or something.

      • Sasori

I just want to clear something up what or who the hell is The Rot is this a character or a comic book event I’m so confused!
As a side note, it’s nice that a horror movie icon is voicing my second fav Batman villain (next to two-face) tho I don’t care so long as he looks and sounds Badass. He really did steal the show I think if not Bane might have barely done it.
Edit: never mind seems to be a figure of D.C.’s version of hell jeebus. Uh no some say it’s him when the poor souls are injected with fear gas.

        • Blade4693

Yeah I personally think the Scarecrow we see in the game is what all of the characters see while under the influence of his fear gas, though some believe The Rot thing is the reason he is alive to begin with (apparently he died in the comics)

But yeah based on what little understanding I have of it, it’s like some natural force that represents or thrives on death and decay and can make certain people it’s avatar. Apparently there is a green and a red too, one of which powers up characters with animal based powers and I think plants too?

          • AdamX

Well Joker killed him to get to the fear toxin in the first place to help send Sup’s on his rampage and kick start everything into motion. So Scarecrow has/had a big part in the Injustice universe being born.

          • Sasori

What I said technically speaking Scarecrow was the one that made Sups go ballistic. It shows that He’s that powerful by manipulating people’s fears and make them do whatever the owner wants. Such a scary weapon in the right hands (pun intended). Still confused on how he got his chained sickle tho

          • AdamX

Jokers idea but Crane supplied the sauce so to speak. Also so iterations of Scarecrow have used a sickle but never a chained one to my knowing, though since it is a fighting game that should explain it.

          • Sasori

Really? All I’ve ever seen him use is some martial arts a cliche sycthe, and recently a Freddy Krugeresque claw filled with fear toxin (HOW FREAKIN APPROPRIATE!!), he otherwise mostly defends himself with his trademark fear gas. When did he have a sickle?

          • AdamX

The Batman animated series after the soft reboot I want to say in 1997 featured a Scarecrow with a look inspired by a southern preacher who carried a scythe/sickle with him.

I actually believe the Batman: TAS version used one in a few scenes as well.

          • Sasori

U mean the one where his face was black and ugly Scarecrow? Idk might be the scythe I was talking about.

          • AdamX

            I believe so.

          • Sasori

You know… the thing that Scarecrow really has going for himself is that he’s dead in the injustice universe (which I originally didn’t know). And the fact that he somehow came back to life or faked his death(preferably the first option) makes him one of the most different characters in the game. It’s probably no wonder he’s becoming almost as popular as Dr Fate.

          • AdamX

Undead Scarecrow is pretty awesome a concept.

          • Sasori

So long as it’s done right. Like I said if this version has any chance of beating John Noble’s amazing performance-as-a-badass-looking-crime-lord Scarecrow, Englund is going to have to be perfect with all of his lines (I’d be a little more forgiving for his fighting grunts and what-nots).

          • AdamX

Scarecrow in Knight was basically fancy window dressing. He played second fiddle to Knight and sometimes third to Joker.

          • Sasori

There’s still no denying he looked totally badass doing so… plus A lot of the D.C. Fans are saying Noble’s Scarecrow was the best Scarecrow.

          • AdamX

            No, he looked amazing.

Just wish they would’ve utilized him more and less of the car.

          • Sasori

First person I’ve met that actually doesn’t like the batmobile feature… I wish Scarecrow was part of Wednesday’s watchtower but seeing how different Banes play style will be is a win in itself if not Maybe Flash (not Captain Cold tho terrible choice TERRIBLE!)

          • AdamX

The car basically said remember all the cool shit you did as Batman in Asylum/City and even Origins, we’re gonna have none of that here mister!

          • Leo

The Arkhamverse consolidated quite a few looks for the characters, including the syringe gauntlets for Scarecrow

          • Sasori

And a sickle was one part of one of Scarecrow’s monsterous/creepy appearances? Also Is that what that claw of his was called I couldn’t point out the name of it… this definitely isn’t the first time John Crane went without a hat/hood; I believe the new 52 comics and for sure Batman Begins were the only other times Scarecrow just wore a burlap sack on his head.

          • Sasori

This might come off as stupid but here’s how I think Johnny Crane was resurrected… Someone robbed his dead body and injected him with his own Fear toxins and now his blood is full of it. Think about it, Fear gas surrounds his entire and one of his moves has him Puking said Gas on his opponents. I will laugh if I’m right about this rumor and if so, who dun it? And where the hell did he get a sickle I don’t read comics either but I don’t think Scarecrow ever used a sickle before.

Also, wow no one is saying anything about Capt goddamn Cold and the ones that are says “I’m sorry You SUCK!” I told them he was a waste I freakin told them.

        • DucksonAPlain

Okay, so there are three opposing forces that dictate all life in the DC Universe (or maybe just on Earth, or maybe there’s five or six or twenty, comics are weird, and this stuff all started in an Imprint of DC Comics that had stories that didn’t take place in the DC Proper or some of it did, and then all the Reboots and Resets and Retcons, let’s just leave it at 3, for now). These forces are know as The Green, The Red, and The Rot. The Green governs Plant Life (and Swamp Thing is it’s avatar), The Red governs all Animal Life (and sometimes Animal Man is it’s Avatar), and The Rot is basically just decay and death and whatever else makes sense for the story (because DC doesn’t keep a close eye on what writers do with it).

Basically, it’s an excuse to make zombies or freaky monsters that shouldn’t exist or live or Lovecraftian horrors and sometimes to bring back a dead character in a horrific way so they can fight Swamp Thing (or Animal Man or Swamp Thing related characters).

There was also an Event called Rot World, where the current Avatar of The Rot, Anton Arcane (a long time Swamp Thing villain), Samurai Jack’d Swamp Thing and Animal Man to the future, where he’d already won and controlled most of the Earth.

          • Sasori

Swamp thing is in the game so that’s one owner of These forces. Ur assuming Scarecrow governs the Rot because of his inhuman undead look. That would leave The Red or animalistic force. It would honestly make sense if Gorilla Grodd, despite originally being black and yellow(I thought personally he was fine already) was the avatar of the red because well he leads an army of armed Gorillas himself.

  • Blade4693

Yeah I am super hype not only for Scarecrow’s inclusion in the game but that Englund is providing his voice. Win win.

  • Darkknight2149

Scarecrow is becoming more and more like Freddy and it fits. Remember “Arkham Asylum”, where he had the cool injection glove?

  • HorrorGeek

Such a great/perfect choice for Scarecrow

  • the usual suspect

That looks awesome.. love the music with it

  • Ima Badlady

Scarecrow looks dangerously hot in this game.

  • DucksonAPlain

Wait, Brainiac is Jeffrey Combs? Why did no one tell me this sooner?

    • Sasori

Who the hell is Jeffery Combs and how is he fitting towards a megalomaniacal super genius like first Brainiac?

      • Abandoned_Being

        Are you serious?

        • Sasori

          Yes I’m serious u think I’m crazy?

          • SKSpawn

I hear there’s a revolutionary online tool called “Google” that might help you.

Also, yes, I do think you’re crazy.

          • Sasori

Why thank you I take that as a compliment lol. I also appreciate the sense of sarcasm what’d Combs play as?

          • thegreatiandi

There is no way that you are on this site, and you have no idea of the awesomeness that is Reanimator?! There…I took the bait

          • Sasori

What da fuc are u talking about???

          • thegreatiandi

” Da fuc ” that im talking about is the movie with Jeffrey Combs. It’s called Reanimator. Settle down…

          • Sasori

What is the reanimator I legit thought u meant the reanimated corpse of my namesake I’m good… jeebus. So yea no freakin clue fill me in on it I might have to watch it to understand Combs’ role as Brainiac.

          • thegreatiandi

Combs is one hell of a quirky actor. Check out Reanimator, Castle Freak, From Beyond….He’s an awesome character actor. And each of the films I named here are classics of his. He is also in The Frighteners.

            http://m.imdb.com/title/tt0089885/

          • Sasori

Quirky… hmm I’m assuming Brainiac is amongst the oddball characters and such considering he relies on tech and pure brains.

  • Leo

Capcom might be the best at refining the art and laws of 2.5D combat, but Netherrealm Studios and Ed Boon are masters at turning them upside down.

Should Injustice 2 be as solid as its predecessor in storytelling and variety, we’re gonna get an instant classic – and a nice addition to the DC Multiverse.

  • Sasori

I’m probably the only one who’s nervous about Robert Englund’s Scarecrow. I mean really he has to be absolutely perfect if his Scarecrow has any chance of beating John Noble’s Scarecrow cuz that was amazing in everything but the fact he was monologue-happy the whole game! Good luck Freddy ur gonna need it!

  • AdamX

I am stoked for Ivy and Swamp Thing even if I suck at playing as them. Scarecrow will be awesome too, personally hoping for Deathstroke again and that they did not nerf Aquaman.

    • Sasori

And when Catwoman went before Poison Ivy Freakin triggered. Lol is it wrong to consider her wifu material (that is if it’s still a thing)

      • AdamX

Catwoman was in the first game.

I believe Ivy was announced first during the promo trailer for Shattered Dreams…or Alliances or whathaveyou Pt. 1.

        • Sasori

No I meant Catwoman’s gameplay trailer

          • AdamX

Ah, they all debuted together I believe in the girls kick ass or something trailer with Cheetah and Black Canary I believe.

          • Sasori

That doesn’t count tho they only showed a little bit I want more.

          • AdamX

You got more good sir, today.

  • The Wicker Man (BWF)

Well, now I want this game.
