Prequel ‘Leatherface’ is Finally Coming in October!

What was Leatherface up to as a teenager? We’ll soon find out!

We’ve been waiting for quite some time to hear an update on Julien Maury and Alexandre Bustillo’s Leatherface, a prequel to the original Texas Chain Saw Massacre that has been finished for a while now. When can we expect to see it? All has been so silent on that front that we were beginning to wonder if the day would ever come. Tonight, however, brings good news!

Producer Christa Campbell revealed on Twitter that Leatherface is coming in October!

In Leatherface

Jessica Madsen plays one of four inmates (Sam Coleman, Sam Strike, James Bloor) who escape from a mental hospital. One of them becomes the title character and iconic slasher. The quartet kidnap a young nurse (played by Vanessa Grasse) and take her on a road trip from hell. Along the way, they are pursued by an equally deranged lawman (Stephen Dorff) out for revenge.

The Conjuring‘s Lili Taylor plays Mother Sawyer.

Nice! At least we have some sort of round about date to look for! I am still on the fence about the plot (obviously we don’t know much) but im still looking forward to seeing Leatherface again.

  • Ocelot006 .

    ‘Fold me’?

    • Quinton Ridley

      “Follow” misspelled

      • Ocelot006 .

I realized that two seconds after I read but I still thought ‘fold me?’ when I first saw it.

        “Fold me?”

        “What?”

“It’s says ‘fold me’ on your back.”

        “No it says ‘follow me’.”

“Oh….well I already thought it said ‘fold me’. If you’re gonna write on your back at least spell it correctly….how the hell did you get that on your back?”

“Dude bro none of this is supposed to happen. You’re just supposed to read my back and follow.”

“Well you fucked that up kid.”

That’s how that scene would really go down.

        • Valak

I wanna hold ’em like they do in Texas plays.
Fold ‘e, let ’em hit me raise it baby stay with me (I love it).
Love Game intuition play the cards with spades to start.
And after he’s been hooked I’ll play the one that’s on his heart…

  • Ocelot006 .

But is it a theatrical release? Or some VOD bullshit?

  • Jason Voorhees

Idk about this plot it scares me and not in a good way. I’m afraid they’ll ruin the character, but im open to giving it a chance.

    • Quinton Ridley

Even if they ruin the character they will erase the continuity a movie later

    • Spencer Rutt

have you seen all the sequels that have come out? leatherface has only really had like 3 good adaptions, talking about the character specifically (not the overall movies)

  • Mike Gionfriddo

The script was pretty good. I think the film will be decent.

    • Stogie Jones

I read it too. Wondering if it was the real script or one they threw away.

  • Travis Ignaffo

Could be good but to be honest they haven’t really nailed the plot as good as the original. They keep sputtering out remake and reboot of all the classics trying to recapture the spark of the 1980s and they probably never will.

  • James B.

They should make it dark like tje 2003 version. It was so scary, that it made over 80 million at the boz oggice and inspired other movies that year like FvJ.

    • Ocelot006 .

Wait it inspired Freddy Vs. Jason? What?

    • Gower Cox

So you are saying that a movie they showed a trailer for at FvJ inspired FvJ and it wasn’t even out yet?

      • ToryK

        Time travel.

    • anthonyd1

Not trying to be a douche but FvJ came out before Texas Chainsaw remake, FvJ August ’03 & Texas Chainsaw October ’03. Trailer for Texas Chainsaw was shown before FvJ. I remember being amazed by the trailer for Texas Chainsaw. Also I think these movies have totally different tones. One is bloody, fun, and has a lot of humor & the other is a dark, brutal, horror picture.

  • Derek Matthew Shipley

The quartet kidnap a young nurse (played by Vanessa Grasse) and take her on a road trip from hell. Along the way, they are pursued by an equally deranged lawman (Stephen Dorff) out for revenge.

mmm I liked this movie better when it was called “the devil’s rejects”

    • Spencer Rutt

funny how you can compare it to any full length film from just a few lines of a description…

      • Ocelot006 .

Yeah. You could equally compare the film to The Angry Birds Movie just as much as the Devil’s Rejects…..

        • Darkknight2149

How so? The plot summary DOES sound like TDJ. A family of killers going on a road trip while being pursued by a revenge-stricken cop.

And the “Texas Chainsaw” influence on both “House of 1000 Corpses” films is pretty obvious.

  • Francesco Falciani

october is so full of horror movie this year…so i bet it will be vod for sure

    • Spencer Rutt

doubt it, it’s one of the biggest horror franchise in america, there’s not way it wont by in theaters.

    • Darkknight2149

I think so, too. Lionsgate was having second thoughts about releasing “Leatherface” at all, and “Saw: Legacy” comes out that month. “Saw” was Lionsgate’s big cash cow for a full seven years, so they probably have high hopes for the new one.

  • Kyle Cole

Hoping it gets a theatrical release!

  • Saturn

So we are to assume that the other 3 are to become Drayton, Choptop and Nubbins?

    • Darkknight2149

Not correct. Nubbins is played by a different actor, Chop Top is owned by a different studio, and we don’t know if Drayton is in the movie yet (I hope Bill Moseley plays him, since he’s an old man in the original).

My best guess is that the other three will be killed by Stephen Dorff’s character, and Stephen Dorff will become Leatherface’s first mask.

    • Stogie Jones

      Nope.

  • Flu-Like Symptoms

The saga of this film reeks of The Next Generation. I’ll be amazed if this doesn’t turn out to be a festering turd.

  • dukeblues

Its about time! I cant wait. It has to be better than the shitty 3D movie, right?

  • anthonyd1

Now with them moving Insidious 4 to January ’18, we definitely have room for another franchise movie in October to open in theaters without hurting each others box office numbers. About time we start getting more than one horror movie in theaters a year around Halloween. Let’s hope the reshoots helped this one and please please, WIDE theatrical release.

  • Shane o mac

I liked Texas chainsaw and am looking forward to this……even if it sounds like the devils rejects lol

  • Simon Allen

So glad it’s FINALLY going to appear …..but do we know if the reshoot/director replacements rumours are true or not ?
And I love the artwork .

  • An origin story that explains why leatherface is so fucked up and makes us feel sorry for him. Sounds truly awful.

    • Jack Derwent

Well Leatherface has always been sympathetic.

  • Luke Knutson

The original, Part 2 is a slapstick of the first, part 3 is almost a remake of the original, part 4 is a mangled mess. The remake, The prequel to the remake. Lets do a sequel to the original even though we already had one and now lets do another prequel to the original. This series has never respected any of the continuity of the movies. Next will be a remake of this prequel. A sequel to 1986 part 2. A remake of the next generation and then a prequel to next generation.

  • Golic

    Nobody cares.

    • And I don’t care about your comment.

      • ToryK

Hey, screw em. Happy early Birthday, dude.

        • hahaha thanks, I guess!
The only thing I tried to say on my commentary was Leatherface is going to be a good birthday gift (or bad if the movie be horrible).

          • ToryK

I totally understood, and if it turns out well, it’ll be a pretty sweet gift. I don’t know why this dude had to take it to insults.

          • I don’t understand him too, but I really don’t care because it’s just an “online insult” haha

  • bigval

Not sure I would go and see both this and Saw: Legacy in October. The Saw franchise surpassed the TCM franchise some time ago.

  • shawn lawson

Road trip from hell wihile being persued by an equally deranged lawman. Didn’t realize Sawyer/Hewitt was also a Firefly.

  • Alex Harbie

I guess this is where they meet the family? Hmm,could be interesting, but then again, Stephen Dorff is in this, i won’t be buying into that guy playing a deranged sheriff, he’s a pretty boy, get somebody who actually looks deranged. Maybe Andrew Lincoln who plays Rick in The Walking Dead, or the guy who played Shane in the same show, now they look nuts.

    • Necro

      Jon Bernthal played ‘Shane’

      • Alex Harbie

There you go, the name escaped me for a sec, thanks for the that. But yes Jon Bernthal.

    • Ocelot006 .

Andrew Lincoln playing a Sheriff. That’s some imaginative casting right there.

      • Alex Harbie

Well, an actor who’s been proven to play the character from both sides of the spectrum. Hey tell Stephen thank you after you swallow.

    • HalesTales

The best deranged lawman would easily go to William Forsythe in The Devil’s Rejects.

    • Stogie Jones

Half the actors in this movie look like they belong on the CW. I hate how they casted.

  • Jeremiah L. Roads

Wasn’t Texas chainsaw massacre the beginning a prequel to the origin of Leatherface?

    • Jack Derwent

That was for the 2003 remake this is apparently for the original movie.

      • Wyatt Smith

So in other words it’s the same thing, only they’re going further back to when Leatherface was a straight up child and trying to connect to the original movie to leach whatever credibility off of it that they can instead of being a prequel to one of the various remakes/reboots? Sounds like bullshit to me.

        • Jack Derwent

The other prequel barely focused on Leatherface and was mainly about the sheriff so a Bustillo/Maury film can only be an improvement.

  • Why do they always have to beat what’s left of the dead horse with Texas Chainsaw? Can’t Leatherface just be a mentally ill guy with a chainsaw and a family of nutcases and that be it?

  • Charles Cumella

The premise for this “prequel” sounds flimsy at best, but I know I love me a good Texas Chainsaw Massacre movie! And, I don’t think anything can be worse than “Texas Chainsaw” (yuck).

  • Humpasaur Jones

Maury & Bustillo are the truth. The fact the studio didn’t know WTF to do with it probably means it’s actually awesome.

    • ScriptGiverrrr

Reshoots were done on this film WITHOUT them because mess.

      • HalesTales

        :O That’s not a good sign..

  • fannypack aficionado

I hope Dorff smokes a Blu cigarette thru the whole awful movie.

  • joewaters

why does it say,”Fold me?” on that kids’ back?

    • Horrible Day

I think its supposed to be folo (follow) but spelled badly because leatherface is an idiot

      • AdamX

        Hey now!

He managed to write pretty legible on his own back.

        • That’s a really good point, I can barely write facing forwards.

      • Evan3

Major kudos to getting that right, I also thought it said Fold Me. Not great to make this announcement using an incompetent image.

That said, kudos to the directors and studios for seemingly casting actual kids. Ballsy move.

  • Gerry Mandering

Watch it be a home video dump.

  • Alanmac

    Reserving judgement for the trailer.

  • HotelFSR

Having seen all the two director’s previous works I have to say either this one is great (Inside) or utterly rubbish (all their other films)

    • Stogie Jones

Have you seen their other works besides Inside? Livide was awesome. Their short in ABC’s of death 2 was badass too.

  • Can you believe in a few months we will live in a world with 3 different films called Leatherface, I’m not complaining though Part 3 is probably one of my favourite exploitation films of all time, and thinking about so if the er other one!

    • Adam Clifton

      3?

      • There is the TCM part 3 one, the one coming out in October as stated in the piece above and another film was re-titled in the UK at least Leatherface and had a similar looking character on the cover holding a chainsaw.

        • Adam Clifton

          ah ok

  • James GanjaMan

    I’m know I’ll love it

  • Slash McClane

    Awesome!

If ever a franchise had the right to go back and dissect the childhood of their villain, it’d be this one.

  • Stogie Jones

I read the script someone emailed me on FB. I thought the movie would never see the light of day. It seems interesting. The fat kid isn’t Leatherface. The movie will feature an old cemetery that teenage Leatherface hides in.
