John Carpenter Developing ‘Tales for a Halloween Night’ for Syfy

Sounds like maybe Syfy is getting more serious about horror.

Universal Cable Productions just announced an overall development deal with John Carpenter, which will see the horror master executive produce scripted programming with UCP for the NBCUniversal Cable Entertainment portfolio, as well as for external networks and streaming services, along with his producing partner, Sandy King.

“I’m excited to partner with Universal Cable Productions on this venture into television. On one hand it’s a return home to Universal where I have fond memories, and on the other it’s a step into the future with great new creative partners in programming,” said Carpenter.

UCP and Carpenter are already in development on “Tales for a Halloween Night” for SYFY. The series is based on Carpenter’s award-winning graphic novel anthology of stories where he brings together storytellers from the worlds of movies, novels, and comics for a collection of horror stories featuring graveyards, sunken ships, creepy crawlers and ghosts that will haunt your dreams long after you’ve finished reading.

A search for a writer is underway.

Additionally, UCP and Carpenter are developing “Nightside, based on the literary series by New York Times bestselling author Simon R. Green, with Jill Blotevogel (“Scream: The TV Series”) attached to write the script.

Nightside is the secret heart of London beating to its own rhythm, pumping lifeblood through the veins of its streets and alleys, hidden in eternal darkness where creatures of the night congregate and where the sun is afraid to shine. It’s the place to go if you’re looking to indulge the darker side of your nature—and to hell with the consequences.

Sounds intriguing, just hope Syfy try to give a good budget at least.

I’ve been kind of keeping an eye on Syfy’s shows over the past few years. Is Channel Zero any good?
That BLOOD DRIVE show looks like shit but I kinda like the idea that in this day and age we actually have a grindhouse-esque TV show.

      I quite liked Channel Zero.

I watched the first 15 minutes of the first episode of Blood Drive, but found it a little to “tryhard” for my taste.

I just tried the first few minutes of Blood Drive and while it seems like a fun gory action ride, it does seem to try too hard to be outrageous. I don’t think its something I’ll keep watching but I’m interested enough to knock off Episode 1.
I’m going to try Channel Zero tonight.

When is Channel Zero coming back? Season 1 was supposed to be split on two stories but I haven’t heard anything about the second half.

Channel Zero is like the only thing in eons on this whale of a turd channel that has been good. How they have so much trouble making decent stuff is beyond me. Blood Drive is right up there with Z Nation- a huge heaping pile of shite

I don’t know much about their scripted programming, but Face Off is awesome.

This sounds like the culmination of all of my favorite shit ever! However, that artwork is pretty atrocious, and not even in a pleasantly cheesy way – just a terrible way.

    Sounds awesome

      I concur.

Finally some good horror series for tv! I miss the Tales from the crypt and the old tales from the dark side! Hell even the goosebumps series as a kid had terrifying moments and Dont Be Afraid of the Dark! They don’t make them like they used too! I’m tryin to figure out why Masters of Horror isn’t on it’s 20th season or some shit! AHS and the Strain are my favorites right now! I think Ima start watching Salem.

Looks like JC will finally get to execute his original plan for a post-Michael Myers Halloween series for the screen. Just hope this doesn’t distract him from making the new film as badass as it can possibly be.
