We’ve Already Got a Release Date for ‘IT’ Sequel!

Well, that didn’t take long.

As Andy Muschietti’s IT continues to shatter impressive box office records, we’ve just learned tonight that the sequel will arrive in theaters on September 6, 2019!

Muschietti will direct the second chapter in the epic saga for New Line and Warner Bros., while Gary Dauberman (IT) has inked a deal to write the script.

Part two is about these characters 30 years later as adults,” Muschietti recently noted, “with flashbacks to 1989 when they were kids.”

As far as we’re aware, casting for the adult Losers’ Club has not yet begun.

What can you expect from IT: Part 2? Here’s everything we know!

Should of just waited a week and released it on Friday the 13th.

An oversight I bet gets fixed.

    • WondrousPoop

Nah. It’s being released on the equivalent weekend of the first movie’s release.

      • jasonlives1986

        I’m aware.

    • Khy

Who cares about Friday the 13th?

      • jasonlives1986

        Explain

        • Creepshow

          Um, here it goes…

If any movie is good, who cares what date it’s released on. Friday the 13th is a gimmick for crap. Same goes for October 31st.

          • jasonlives1986

So we shlould call the new Halloween the Laurie tapes or something?

            Gotcha

          • Creepshow

Yeah. That’s exactly what I was (not) thinking. You nailed it!

          • jasonlives1986

Explicitly called out Halloween as a gimmick.

When no one asked for your opinion.

            Deal with it

          • Creepshow

Says the guy who needs stuff explained.

            Gotcha

          • jasonlives1986

I need their thoughts before I choose my path of disagreement.

But f13 and Halloween are gimmicks and the the series that attached their names to them are too!!!!!!

            Like I said. Gotcha.

          • Creepshow

Yup. Hockey masks, and William Shatner masks are dead.

            Deal with it.

          • jasonlives1986

            Sigh.

          • Creepshow

            I’m sorry for your loss.

          • jasonlives1986

Defeated the argument like the cold war.

You resulted into baseless trolling that ain’t no one got time for

          • Creepshow

Do you type with your toes?

          • jasonlives1986

Halloween and F13 are gimmicks and now I know where you stand on your horror opinions.

I won’t make a big deal about it unless you contradict your self in Halloween or F13 threads.

          • Creepshow

The dates are gimmicks. Jesus Christ, you don’t know your ass from your moose-knuckle.

          • jasonlives1986

            It’s fine man.

I don’t judge you for your mistake. I just ask you not to judge me for my typos like you already tried!!

          • WondrousPoop

He may be the dumbest person I’ve ever seen comment on BD.

  • Bill Hader for Richie.

  • Khy

Perfect film to end a solid decade of horror with!

    The 2010s have been good.

  • Khy

I hear they want to go inexpensive for the adults. So how about Rachelle Lefevre for Beverly? She’s gorgeous and would be a solid inexpensive choice

    • Grimphantom

Nice pick. Too bad she’s a bit young but Jane Levy also be a nice candidate if she was a bit more older.

The director does have his on Jessica Chastain for the role of Beth so who knows what will happen, just hope they don’t get A-list actors or at least someone that’s known but not in the ranks like Tom Cruise or Johnny Depp.

    • BreeBennett

      Good choice, love her.

      • Khy

        She is amazing.

    • Mccuish1525

      good choice

    • Creepshow

For grown-up Eddie, this dude was in my head while watching the film. https://uploads.disquscdn.com/images/c051f4dc904a3545a2f472623c6f5ac52573608f2dbb8f48917ead1bdddbab7a.jpg

      • Khy

        Haha I see the looks!

        • Creepshow

Adam Scott could pull it off greatly.

          • Khy

And he would be affordable! Jeez, I really hope these people we are suggesting are reaching out to their agents!
            These are some solid choices!

Now watch New Line/WB do something stupid and cast the worse cast ever haha. I’m preparing myself.

    • Oh shit, I didn’t even think about her. I loved her in Continuum, she’d be great!

  • I was hoping for 2018. But, I guess you can’t rush art.

    • Simon Allen

Or perhaps try that the Director has commitments .

      • Directors are not actors and typically work on one directing project at a time. Unless he is rushing another film for 2018, I doubt that’s the reason for the 2019 date.

        • Necro

If he had his way ‘Pet Semetary’

          • I doubt that’ll be a 2018 film, though.

          • Necro

            Yeah I know

          • He’s also in talks to do a prequel to the Bram Stoker Dracula novel. The thing, though, is directing is a huge, time consuming responsibility. Whereas actors can do multiple films a year or writers can write many screenplays, directors typically only direct a single film at a time.

        • Simon Allen

I guess you don’t read the trades then Mr as if you did you would know that he currently has his fingers in many pies …..that’s what happens when you direct a movie that makes shitloads of cash .

          • Yes, but he won’t be directing all of those pies at once… And they will not all be coming out at once either (at least, not with him at the helm). Most of them aren’t even in pre-production yet, so for all we know, they might not even happen. So let’s not get ahead of ourselves. “Wait and see, Dwighty. Wait and see.

  • Vinnie Vincent’s Dead Dog

I’m just hoping it stops at Part II and they don’t go beyond the novel and keep churning out sequels that just ruin the movies. Basically the same thing that happens to every horror franchise with even a small amount of success.

    • Necro

      I agree there!

      • Vinnie Vincent’s Dead Dog

I would like to say it wouldn’t happen. But when you’re dealing with money hungry companies. The value of art is secondary when it comes to the almighty allure of the dollar.

        • Necro

Just had that same conversation with a friend today!

    • gabriel

Hopefully this kickstarts a Pet Sematary remake and other lesser known King novels before they add on to the It story.

    • Khy

I agree. The Loser’s Club story should conclude with Chapter 2 as planned. Do not try and stretch it.

HOWEVER. This is Hollywood as you pointed it out and if they want to make more money with Pennywise I wouldn’t be opposed to perhaps a spin-off film called “Derry Township”. It could be a prequel about the founders of Derry and the original settlers and what happened during IT’S three year reign that made them all disappear without a trace. I’d find that quite intriguing, especially if Stephen King was involved with the story/script. That’s something from the novel that I always wanted more detail on.

But I’m fine with two films. Better to leave them wanting more. We don’t need this going down the Freddy route. A bunch of dumb horny teens running from Pennywise in IT Chapter 5 and IT Chapter 6. lol

  • Necro

Here’s my personal actor wish list for the adults in Chapter 2:
    I realize a few might be A list-esque

‘Stan’ – Jake Gyllenhaal (‘Nightstalker’ Gyllenhaal where he’s all thin and has that look like there’s just something not quite right with him and you can tell he’s gone through some shit!)
    ‘Eddie’ – Elijah Wood
    ‘Richie’ – Paul Dano
‘Ben’ – Chris Pratt (the only one I’m still struggling with)
    ‘Mike’ – Donald Glover
‘Beverly’ – Bryce Dallas Howard or Jessica Chastain
    ‘Bill’ – James McAvoy

    • Khy

That cast would so take me out of the movie lol.

      • Necro

Yeah there’s some I’m not 100% but 3 of them I for sure would

        • Khy

Not that they are bad actors. ALL are great. Just having too many recognizable faces ya know?

          • Necro

            Yep

    • Vinnie Vincent’s Dead Dog

Some of those are far too A list in my opinion. They would be better off casting unknowns. The same way they cast the kids.

      • Necro

Yeah my fear is the amount of money chapter one made, unknowns might not be the way they go. You said it yourself, the almighty allure of the dollar!

        • Vinnie Vincent’s Dead Dog

Yeah, but the benefit of horror films have always been their low production costs. Which is why horror films are usually always profitable.

          • Necro

            I agree

        • Khy

Well they are going for inexpensive. There are plenty recognizable faces that they can get that are inexpensive and aren’t too over exposed without resorting to A-Listers.

Actors like Rachelle Lefevre, Keith Robinson ect are perfect choices because they are SOLID actors that have done notable projects but they aren’t household names or overexposed- they are still fresh enough as to not be too distracting. They can BECOME the characters like the kids
          BECAME the characters.

I don’t want to see Adult Mike and go “Hey, there’s Will Smith!”.

They don’t need big names for IT. Chapter 2 is the grand finale and people WILL see it. The only star you need is Pennywise. Part 1 proved it.

          • Necro

“Hey, there’s Will Smith!” That definitely would be a turn off there. I agree with you on some of what you’re saying.

    • Weresmurf

      Bill – Wil Wheaton
      Eddie – Adam Scott
      Richie – Seth Green
Ben – Ben McKenzie (if WB limits budget) If we have a budget? Chris Pratt.
      Mike – Jordan Peele
      Beverley – Amy Adams
      Stan – Adam Brody

      Henry Bowers – Michael Shannon

      • Necro

I definitely like Adam Brody, Amy Adams is gorgeous, I didn’t even consider Jordan Peele (if he wants to act anymore), and Shannon is a good choice too. He was twisted as fuck in ‘Bug’.

      • Hack Snyder

        “Bill – Wil Wheaton”
        Please tell me you’re joking.

        • Weresmurf

Im sorry was I meant to recommend a 300 million dollar actor?

          • Hack Snyder

No, recommend a talented actor. He was good in Stand by Me but that’s it. In every other film/TV show he has been adequate at best.

          • Weresmurf

If you say so. I heartily disagree.

          • Hack Snyder

What are his best performances? I’m genuinely curious. Maybe you can convince me he has talent.

          • Weresmurf

            Why?

          • Hack Snyder

            Why not? I’m curious.

    • Barry El Beardo

This isn’t the worst thing I ever read. But I like Donald Glover

  • Khy

2019 will be here before we know it.
I remember when IT was filming last summer and I had no idea how I would make it until September 8th 2017…
    Look at us now.

    • Big Boss Rogers

They prolly start shooting it next summer so between the casting news of the adults we should have enough to keep us entertained in the meantime ha

      • Khy

Oh yes. This year is almost over any way.

Blu-Ray/DVD will probably land in January. Casting news probably by April. Filming from June-September. We’ll get through the next two years just fine 😉

        • Aslinn McIntyre

14 months, not long a wait at all.

        • Big Boss Rogers

Can’t wait for the extra 15 minutes directors cut!

  • The Night King

They should have a BD essay contest where the user gets to explain why IT was the greatest cinematic experience of their life. The winner gets to play Vincent “Boogers” Taliendo in the sequel.

    • The Drucifer

Haha. Gotta pee in the belly button until it goes into their bug! That guy right?

  • Ima Badlady

Hope I’m not dead by then.

    • Creepshow

That’s some bad-lady talk right there.

    • Khy

I hope I have a better job by then.
I’m sick of working Home Depot with bitter ass Larry Cohen.

      • TheMostInterestingManintheMidw

I’ll buy your ticket if I can get a discount on some power tools before then.

  • llcc1103

Yay cant wait to see the sequel! Looking forward to surface jump scares, corny background “scary” music, and an overload of CGI!!! All hail! Mush Mush the hack!

    • TheoPizza

Yay! I can’t wait for the sequel! Another shitpost crying and bitching in an attempt to be seen as some film elitist fuckwad. Good job, your cynicism only highlights your meaningless life.

      • llcc1103

OMG SOMEONE HAD ANOTHER POV OF THE FILM! HANG THEM!!!!

        • Trav

But why comment? You kinda come off as someone who can’t let anyone else enjoy a film you don’t like. That’s totally fine, you have a right to your opinion, but don’t shit on this announcement for the people who really enjoyed the first one.

          • Deva Sturm

We can write whatever we want. We didn’t all have to love it.

    • Dave

      Ha!

    • Frank Gambino

I liked the movie but I do think there are things they can improve upon in the sequel. The cgi and jump scares for instance. I loved the music though

  • Rohan

They should get the kids from the TV movie to play the adults.

    • Matt Miller

That would be crazy! Emily Perkins doesn’t look like Beverly at all thought.

      • Deva Sturm

Ewww the girl from ginger snaps?

        • Matt Miller

Lol I like her a lot. She was great in Ginger Snaps and the movies also were awesome. But I haven’t seen her in movies anymore.

    • I’m 100% on board with the idea of some of them, but others look nothing like the kids and some are dead.

  • Brian McNatt

Haven’t figured out all my choices for the adult cast, but here goes:

    Ritchie: Seth Green
    Mike: Chadwick Boseman
Ben: and his name is JOHN CENA! *do do-do dooo!*
    Bill: Sebastian Stan
    Eddie: James Ransone

    • Barry El Beardo

This isn’t the worst thing I ever read. But its getting better!

  • Nick Wolf

    Richie – Charlie Day
    Mike – Cuba Gooding Jr
Ben – Chris Pratt (I know)
    Bill – Tobey Maguire
    Eddie – Adam Scott
    Stan – Scoot McNairy
    Beverly – Jessica Chastain
    Henry – Michael Shannon

    • Frank Gambino

Cuba gooding jr is like in his 50s

    • Barry El Beardo

This isn’t the worst thing I ever read. But its not good!

  • Trav

Question: Am I crazy, or does anyone else think Jenna Fischer would make a good adult Beverly?

  • Matt Miller

Here’s hoping they get Jessica Chastain to play Beverly, there’s a great chance it could happen.

  • Frank Gambino

    Mike – Kevin Hart
    Bill – Nicholas cage
    Ben – Dwayne Johnson
    Stan – Larry David
    Beverly – Brittany Murphy
    Richie – Bobcat Goldthwait
    Eddie – dj qualls

    • Frank Gambino

      Henry – Matt leblanc

      • tyler

I like my list better… but your’s is a good second option

    • The chicken man

      Brittany Murphy is dead.

      • Yeah, it was a little bit tasteless

        • MYKEE WATTZ

          Very tasteless…

          • Deva Sturm

I’m just happy I was reminded of Brittany Murphy. I loved her. Her death and the conspiracy around it would make a fine thriller.

          • MYKEE WATTZ

I actually see that happening… and a pretty good idea.

      • Deva Sturm

        It was his dream cast

    • Barry El Beardo

This has got to be the second worst thing I ever read

  • tyler

    Mike: Justin Bieber
    Ben: Robert Redford
    Richie: Eli Roth
    Eddie: Tyga
    Henry: Brad Pitt
    Stan: Morgan Freeman
    Bill: Pauly Shore
    Beverly: Sarah Jessica Parker

    MAKE IT HAPPEN!

    • Barry El Beardo

This has got to be the worst thing I ever read

    • Deva Sturm

      Sjp. Poor Beverly!

  • The A-list cast predictions sound pretty awful to me.

Studios normally drop money on big names when they need to attract audiences. Part 1 has proven to be a huge critical and commercial success, so they don’t need big names to sell Part 2. If they are looking to maximize revenue it would be a silly choice.

The only way I see it happening is if Muschietti already has some big names in mind and NL are happy to front the cost.

  • jackie sumpter

I also think that a cast of mostly unknowns again would be smart. I really don’t want to see a bunch of actors I already know and see in everything else that’s out there. I think it would take away from the film.

    • Ocelot006 .

A cast of unknown 40-year-olds? If they haven’t made it by now, it’s because they’re quite awful.

      • MYKEE WATTZ

You really have no clue what you are talking about. Hollywood is filled with working unknown actors of all ages. Hence why commericials, tv shows, web shows, and independant movies have thousand of actors to cast from from all over the United States. The A-list status happens only for a few lucky people. You’re welcome.

        • Ocelot006 .

Yeah, let’s get those riveting ‘mmmm…..noodle soup’ guys from those Campbell’s commercials.

  • Graham

I wish they had planned to release the second film in 2018!

    • Ocelot006 .

Then you don’t get an A-list cast.

      • MYKEE WATTZ

Depends on your definition of an A-list cast.

  • I suppose I should be excited that they have 2 years to make a better movie, but I’m gutted that I’ll have to wait that long!

  • Mike Lawrence

    I’ve been waiting for this….but 2 years??!

    • Ocelot006 .

Yeah two years…..um is that really too long for you buddy? It hasn’t even been out a month.

      • Mike Lawrence

Based on my very excited, yet clear post, it appears that may have been my point.

        • Ocelot006 .

Well, there’s really not much else to do to satisfy you other than to make a hack rush job sequel.

          • Mike Lawrence

Ok, that’d be great. Thanks. You think you can make that happen for me? I’d appreciate it

          • Ocelot006 .

Already been filming all day with my Cingular Wireless phone camera.

      • The chicken man

        Yes. It’s too long.
        🙂

  • Barry El Beardo

I still think Jessica Chastain would look JUST like a grown up Bev.

But when thinking of who we want to play these adults, people need to remember that they should all look around the same age and actually late thirties/early forties

*This is the best I ever read*

    • Jason Forrister

I was actually thinking Amy Adams for some reason when seeing a grown up Beverly.

  • Fr0gg0

I just hope it will be better, this one was a snoozefest.

    • MYKEE WATTZ

Your about the only person I’ve heard say that.

  • Alanmac

2019 will also be the final season of Stranger Things, Godzilla: King of Monsters PLUS the final film in the Skywalker saga. Gearing up to be a great year already!

  • DBZEROGRAVITY

dang, that’s a pretty long wait. better start filming the flashbacks now before growth spurts change things…

  • GrimGrinGhost

No thanks, part 1 was underwhelming as hell. The CG, loud redundant score and lack of legitimate scares. IT plays itself extremely safe when the book is absolutely balls to the wall horror, what we get is an imitation of a great novel, just your bog standard jump scare farce. Also Skasgard played Pennywise completely over the top, wasn’t needed at all.

    • Papa_spoosh

Yeah who wants an over the top pennywise?!.. should have been totally grounded like Tim Curry…. nothing over the top about his performance. Lol I get the criticism for the jump scares and cgi. Some of the pacing felt a bit like scene compilations but that’s also how the novel felt. The movie was great altogether. The more popular it continues to be, it will be matched with more unwarranted hate though.

      • GrimGrinGhost

Forgive me but I don’t hate the film. The film itself is extremely well made and acted, especially the children. My main criticism lie with the direction of Pennywise and the lack of scares, some of them felt overly rushed and didn’t build any tension. I;m sorry to say I even laughed when he came out of the projectionist screen, he looked so stupid and comical.

        • DukeStKing

I’m still trying to figure out why they played that “happy” 80’s type music when they were all cleaning Bevs’ bloody bathroom. Took me right out of the movie. I looked at my wife and said, “John Hughes? “

          • ky

It was meant to be a bonding moment for them all; they weren’t letting fear control them, and were starting to take control of things…I thought it made sense.

          • DukeStKing

I am well aware that they were bonding. However, for me, and just for me, a deafening silence while maybe Bev sobbed silently in the background would have worked better. Remember, they have no idea what they may be up against. So I’d like to think they were each wondering what the hell they were going to do next. Remember, this is how I would have preferred it to have gone down.

          • Khy

No thank you, that doesn’t sound compelling to me. They all took a horrifying and terrible moment for Bev and made it something strong and uplifting.
Bev sitting in the corner sobbing while they clean is not the character at all.

          • DukeStKing

            Hahahahaha. Ok.

          • Hank_Scorpio

It was an 80s thing. Every movie with a montage scene had sappy 80s music accompanying it….

        • Khy

I laughed when I saw your fat pig face in your avatar.

          • The Night King

The man is allowed to not care for a movie Khy, you act like he killed your kids. But it is good to see the MODS doing such a wonderful job of cleaning up the comment section. Other people have been banned for saying way less. I guess weight shaming is okay in the eyes of the mods.

          • Khy

What a snowflake. Go hide in your safe space.

          • The Night King

I’m about as far from a snowflake as you can get. Flipping out on someone like that for merely not liking a movie that you do is not normal.

          • Khy

Aren’t you the same walking vaginal infection that made jokes about someone being the victim of molestation while preaching against molestation?
            Shut up.

          • The Night King

Not that I’m aware of. Seriously Khy, you need help.

          • Khy

            “Not that I’m aware of”
            Lol. Un huh

          • DukeStKing

            “Lighten up, Francis.”

        • Trav

Really? The projection scene was the best part for me! It was really well built up, and I genuinely didn’t see it coming. That was just my experience with the scene though.

    • Khy

“Also Skasgard played Pennywise completely over the top, wasn’t needed at all.”

Said no one ever. Fuck off cynical porky pig.

I hear people commonly complain about the CG, but I didn’t think it was bad at all. Also, yes, there were jump scares, but they were set up well, and this movie built a scary atmosphere. If anything, Skarsgard’s Pennywise was toned down compared to the book, and miniseries. This movie also did a good job of putting in subtle scares as well. There really was good attention to detail with this movie.

I’d like to see Patrick Wilson as Ben. But really I don’t want to see a star cast. The movie won’t need it to drive sales and it would be distracting. Stan should be the only one to get a big name actor and that’s just because it would add more shock and be a cool throw off.

I would absolutely love to see Bill Hader’s take on Richie personally. I’m working on my second read-through of the book, and I was a big fan of the movie as well. Can’t wait to see what they do with the second installment!

He would do a great job. He’s an amazing character actor.

  • While I’m glad they aren’t going to rush it, hopefully meaning they will continue to focus on making a quality film, I also hate that I need to wait two years for the rest of the story. And yes, I realize both halves of that statement are completely contradictory. I didn’t say it was a logical reaction.

    • I think most people are thinking the same thing, at least the people that loved the new IT.

I’m hoping the huge turnaround from the first will also give them a lot more to play with in terms of effects (practical and CGI), rather than them splashing it all on big name actors.

      • I really don’t want big name actors, because I think it will be too distracting. Some of the suggestion like Bill Hader I can totally get behind, because they are good actors, but while people know them, they aren’t like a “brand” where the personality/reputation of the actor begins to overshadow the role. I don’t want this to be a Brad Pitt/Tom Cruise/Leo DiCaprio fest of egos and riders. I’d like to see them get the best actors possible–with or without a Q score–and be able to focus on the story the same way I did with the first film.

I wish they would have filmed parts 1 and 2 together…
