Red Barrels Confirm ‘Outlast 3’, First Two Games Headed to Switch + More

In an interesting turn of events, Outlast 2 devs Red Barrels have seemingly quashed one hope for fans, but have given them much more.

In a lengthy Facebook post, the team talks about how fans have been requesting DLC for Outlast 2. Unfortunately, that’s not in the cards, despite The Murkoff Account postings. “While the first Outlast was made with the idea of a DLC in mind, that was not the case for Outlast 2. We’ve considered many options, but none of them felt appropriate for a DLC. Outlast 2 was created to make you feel like a rat in a maze, without any knowledge of what’s outside the maze.”

The big news, however, comes right after that, with the devs stating that they intend to make Outlast 3 “at some point”, and that “answers will be given”. In the meamtime, however, those who haven’t can still read The Murkoff Account’s epilogue.

The other big news comes in the form of a something the team is working on that “won’t be a sequel to Outlast or Outlast 2, but it will be a distinct experience set in the Outlast universe.” What that is, the team won’t say until they’re sure that they can “make it work”.

Lastly, since everyone and their grandma are coming to the Nintendo Swith, the post concludes with news that both Outlast games are headed to the console in the first quarter of 2018. They even have a handy photo for those who need the visual confirmation. With all of these ports coming down the pipe (not to mention the first-party games), it’s making me really want to get a Switch…

Outlast is a very good series, I hope Outlast 3 has some sort of combat, not a lot, but just enough to make it still feel like Outlast

      Like Alien Isolation?

Yeah kinda like that, I just think it would bring something new to the series but keep it the same Outlast we all love

I remember playing the first Penumbra (before Amnesia was a thing) and using the pickaxe to kill the wolves by climbing on boxes ,crouching and splitting their heads open… it was not combat, but at least I could improvise a way to get rid of them.

Yeah exactly, I guess we’ll have to wait and see what they make out of it

or at least some way of not be totally and ilogically defenseless, also if out of two games, one is bad, then is not a very good series

I liked both of them so I think it’s a good series but everyone is different, but yeah combat would be a good addition

I didn’t think I would be, but in the few months I have owned my Switch, I have come to the conclusion that it’s an amazing little machine and perfect for the market. If you’re still on the fence, please allow me to push you…

      Bayo 3 already pushed me.

With the lukewarm reviews from Outlast 2, I hope they stick to the same formula as the first Outlast. Either way I’m looking forward to the new game.

      Outlast 2 got good reviews

is okay, i can wait, no need to rush it, because Outlast 2 was pretty much shit, everything good from the first game was stripped away, it lost its impact and shown its formula, something very usual in horror sequels, and the story sucked

Please let it be a game where you can actually fight back…

A lot of y’all are just Cut N’ Paste gamers-didn’t really play the game but because someone speedran through Outlast 2 and didn’t get any of the documents conveying a large portion of the story that they consider it a sucky story.

I wish 2 was better, didnt really play up the science part and focused too much on gross shock value stuff and the past stuff didnt really mix well thematically
