I liked The Void, but I’m surprised it beat all those other films.

    • sliceanddice

yeah – disliked it a lot and so i totally agree. surprising.

      • Josh Gastronomicon Myers

But that eyehole impalement scene though…

You got to admit, that was dopeness

        • sliceanddice

Sorry man I don’t even recall the bit you are talking about. Remind me?

          • Josh Gastronomicon Myers

There was a demon corpse in the basement, repeatedly ramming it’s eye socket into the end of a pole. It was squelchy

          • sliceanddice

hmmm. needs to go back and rewatch. hopefully enjoy it more a second time round.

    • Biscoito18

Same. Raw and The Devil’s Candy are far superior films.

    • JoeInTheBox

I’m wondering if this is because it came out earlier and had easier accessibility. I have big horror friends that have yet to see Raw, but have seen The Void, months ago.

      • Saturn

Could be – but we can only vote on what we’ve seen, so…..

    • disqus_uPh3WDxbQy

I’m glad The Void won, especially over Raw, which I found silly and boring.

      • Hayden Koutras

i’ve never really disagreed with most opinions here but i never did get the love for Raw. I tried but i just didn’t find it that interesting. Good performances but i just couldn’t get into the plot.

      • Raphael

I don’t know if I can say The Void is better than Raw objectively speaking, but I’d rather watch the former any day of the week so I’m fine with this.

    • Josh Gastronomicon Myers

All in all I dug that film (and the eyehole-palement scene was magnifique) but that cop turned out to be quite the candy ass. He was literally cowering from the moment the two guys walked in with guns

“Mr violent alpha male man, sir…May I approach please?”

I was so waiting for him to Rick Grimes that dude and put him on his ass

  • sliceanddice

great to see some love for exorcist, though I’d say Ben Danniels outshines herera.

    • Saturn

Indeed, although both Priest are fantastic in their role Ben is certainly the better actor of the two.

      • sliceanddice

        True, indeed.

    • Hayden Koutras

The Exorcist is so incredible, i’m still in awe of season 2. gotta agree though, Ben Daniels is definitely a better performance, although Herrera still is fantastic in his own regard and they play quite different characters in Tomas being so pure and Marcus being the broken priest. i was just always intrigued by Daniels performance more.

      • sliceanddice

        I agree with you.

      • dsxy

        Yeah Ben Daniels is amazing!

    • Darren Kerr

      Yep..couldn’t agree more

  • sedoi

Shame Devil’s Candy lost, it was amazing

    • Saturn

Although I have to agree that IT was a better movie, Devil’s Candy was definitely a high-light of the year. Very good movie imho.

      • Creepshow

The dad can really work a paint brush, but he’s a candy-ass when there’s a baseball bat in his hands.

        • Saturn

Sounds like Offspring lyrics to me……

          • Creepshow

Indeed he wasn’t very fly for a white guy. And the dude was also a grub. Apparently his new house wasn’t equipt with a shower. “Wash your fuckin hair”!

      • sedoi

Well I thought it can win in Best indie film, but sadly it didn’t happened.

  • Biscoito18

Jessie from Gerald’s Game is THE final girl of the year for me. Also, if there was a division of genders in the Best Actor category, probably Carla Gugino would have, deservedly, won Best Actress. Shame.

    • Josh Gastronomicon Myers

I can’t remember, was she even included in the choices? Seems like Geralds Game got no real love which is sad but unsurprising. It seems like everyone just wanted to gush over IT on every category possible, which was sad.

IT was great, no doubt, but so were a TON of other horror this year. I guess that’s the downside when a horror movie gets too big. It’s all anyone remembers

      • Lots of love for Gerald’s Game! It was nominated for Best Scare and Best Film, and Carla Gugino was nominated for Best Final Girl and Best Actor in Film

  • Barry El Beardo

As much as I loved IT and Beverly as a character, she succumbs to a damsel in distress so for me, I wouldn’t have her as the best Final Girl. But she is a great character and played so well by Sophia Lillis 🙂

    • Josh Gastronomicon Myers

Totally agree. I think everyones love for IT just sort of flowed over into every category. Which was unfortunate. She was a great character for most of the film, but in the end became a boring generic damsel in distress. How is that the best?

Personally I think the best final “girl” was Daniel Kaluuya 🙂

      • Saturn

Personally (even though technically she was) I don’t consider her a final girl, as final girl usually means the final survivor, whereas none of her group of firends were killed,

        • Josh Gastronomicon Myers

Good point there my friend. Would “Tree” from Happy Death day count? Most of her friends that are killed are herself

          • Saturn

Ummmmmmmmmm – my brain is overheating!

      • Barry El Beardo
  • Carl Chrystan

Hope to see more categories next year (best score, best song, best line, best poster, best novel, etc). And have you ever thought of having a Razzie version (you could call it the ‘Bloody Delightful Awards’)?

    • This one was so much fun for us and we got way more votes than expected, so we’re goinna go much bigger next year. We’ll definitely have more categories.

      • Saturn

I’d recommend something like Best International Movie or Best Legendary Johnathon Schaech performance.

        • Great suggestions, we’re also going to have a “Game Changer” category (spoiler – Blair Witch wins)

          • Saturn

            Ha ha!
But enough of the damned spoilers!
            😉

        • Creepshow

That’s impossible, because all of his performances are Schaechendary. Pfft!

          • Saturn

I suspect that’s the reason He wasn’t included this year.

      • kieron callaghan

That really is great news Tom and i’ll try not to mess up my voting like i did this year as i stupidly clicked ‘OK’ after the first category thinking it would register and then i could move onto the next selection but then when i tried to vote again it said ‘you have already completed this survey’…talk about being so shamed for myself. I live in hope that maybe we could have best Foreign horror film too.

    • Darren Kerr

Best Score would be a fantastic idea.
Check out Anthology Resource Vol. 1: △△ by Dean Hurley.
The atmospheric sounds from Twin Peaks The Return.
      Absolutely stomach-churning.

      • Carl Chrystan

Wow! That first track! Someone’s finally recreated the sound you hear in a room whenever I tell a joke!

        • Darren Kerr

          I was serious…but hey bollocks!!!
Best Horror Score would have probably been won by Wallfisch for IT anyway.

  • Reanimated Charlie

Oh noooooo, Bruce Campbell lost? Damn.

    • Josh Gastronomicon Myers

Yeah, sucks man. Everyone was all over IT, which was a great movie, sure, but it didn’t deserve to sweep the awards. There was a ton of good horror this year. Sad the fans didn’t feel like spreading the love around more. Pretty single minded

    • Saturn

In all fairness, Bruce shouldn’t have been up for the award for 2017, as AvED skipped that year, so really he shouldn’t have qualified anyway.

  • Hash-Slinging Slasher

Am I the only one who thought this was going to be about books?

    • WALKTER

      Yep

    • J Jett

      i did too! LOL.

    • Cuesta Verde

      Yes!!!

    • Russell Reball

      Guilty as charged.

  • Josh Nitsche

Most Overrated Film of the Year: IT

    • Hayden Koutras

It was one of my favourite movies of 2017 and i loved it.. but this is upsetting. It won for categories it didn’t deserve because of the hype around it. like, best final girl being Beverly? she’s not even a fucking final girl. everyone lives.. she’s the only girl in the group. like, what? Definitely should have went to Casey from Split.

      • Josh Nitsche

I also voted for Casey… I mean, if this was the Teen Choice Awards, I could see “IT” winning best Horror film, but I picked “mother!”

    • Eddie Barsh

      Square up

      • Josh Nitsche

Most Overused CGI in a Horror Film: IT

  • DukeStKing

Wow. For some reason, I thought there were better horror movies out last year. To each their own. Makes the horror world go ’round .

    • ChowYunPhat

It was a great year for horror films, but apparently all of the voting was done by teenagers who only see studio films playing at the mall.

  • Josh Gastronomicon Myers

Happy for Get Out but pretty sad that there was no love for Ash 🙁

  • DoopGremlin

    The Void sucked…

    • disqus_uPh3WDxbQy

      No it didn’t.

      • Darren Kerr

        Agree with you there bud.

    • marshally

Not if you’re a Lovecraft fan

      • Munchie Strikes Back

It did if you’re a fan of being able to see what’s going on onscreen.

      • Matthew Landers

I have been a Lovecraft fan for over 20 years. The Void sucked.

      • DoopGremlin

Huge Lovecraft fan. That doesn’t stop the film from being an underwritten bore. It uses ambiguity as a shield to mask its weak-ass plot and all of the practical effects horror fans splooge themselves over are all mostly shot in poor lighting…in close-up.

The Void is a pretentious farce.

  • Darren Kerr

    Haunters?
Not seen this…is it worth the time?
EDIT: Have looked it up and will add to my watch-list.

  • Cuesta Verde

I keep getting this crap only when I come to this website or ScreenRant. It takes over my phone and I can’t back out of it. Does anyone else have this happen to them or know how to make it stop? https://uploads.disquscdn.com/images/f006bc3a0dd060ca83650e30775813df24f3e6a04b10bd61b05a4791b0a4475e.jpg

  • Munchie Strikes Back

So…you guys delete my comment where I jokingly refer to the others here as ‘morons’ (winky face included to denote sarcasm) but you don’t delete all the spam comments from the spam user posting spam links to spam movie downloads? Got it.

    • Creepshow

What can they do to make that up to you, and put this indiscretion behind us?

      • Munchie Strikes Back

Nuke the entire site from orbit. It’s the only way to be sure.

        • Judge Satchmo

He’s just a grunt! No offense, he doesn’t have that kind of authority!

Sorry, I neither agree nor disagree, I just can’t let a good Aliens reference pass.

          • Munchie Strikes Back

            None taken.

        • Creepshow

Well, that’s a totally fair negotiation. Your voice has been heard. Let’s see what happens.

  • Rocky

so all mainstream stuff ? ppfftt

  • I Am Colossus

IT was my favorite horror movie of the year, but sad to see the HORDE not get as much love…..but I love any anything with Bruce Campbell in it half to see him on the list my fanboy came out

  • WOLF

Why wasn’t Get Out a choice for best movie? I personally thought it was a silly bad movie but most raved about it.

  • Nahuel Benvenuto

    mainstream bs all of it

  • David Chapman

Wow. Just wow. I honestly thought this was a site for horror fans but these results show the opposite. The fact that Annabelle: Creation and Happy Death Day are on ANY ‘best of’ list is insulting. I have Happy Death Day as my new standard for Worst Horror Film Ever replacing The Darkness with Kevin Bacon. True fans got to chime in and correctly vote The Void best something (Indie film yeah, but so much more). 1922 and Gerald’s Game deserve so much more than ‘It’. Where is The Bride (ok, fair enough most people have no seen it but still!!!) Blumhouse is really doing a lot of damage on the horror front so expect 2018 to be more garbage in, garbage out.
