B-D Quoted on ‘Severance’ Cover Art, Specs Revealed

Magnolia Home Entertainment has announced the DVD release of Severance (review), which features a sweet quote from B-D on the cover! DVD Active reports that this Christopher Smith directed film will be available to own from the 18th September, and should retail at around $26.98. The film itself will be presented in 1.85:1 anamorphic widescreen, along with an English Dolby Digital 5.1 Surround track. Extras will include a commentary with director, cast and crew, a making of featurette, a Being Danny Dyer featurette, deleted scenes and outtakes, a Not So Special Effects featurette, and a Genesis Of Severance featurette. Vertigo’s ‘The Echo’ Remake Rounds Out Cast

Iza Calzado is reprising her role from 2004 Filipino horror film Sigaw in the English-language remake The Echo reports The Philippine Star. Calzado will once again play the role of the abused wife in a story that tells of a man who gets caught up in a strange (supernatural) case of domestic abuse in his new apartment block. Jesse Bradford, Amelia Warner, Louise Linton round out the cast. Yam Laranas (interview), who directed the original, will also helm the remake.

‘Beach Party at the Threshold of Hell’ Gets Distribution!

National Lampoon has acquired theatrical and home video rights to International Danger Alliance’s post-apocalyptic comedy Beach Party at the Threshold of Hell (trailer), which played at this months HorrorHound Weekend in Indianapolis to an extremely happy crowd. The film, which premiered at last year’s Los Angeles Film Festival, is set 20 years in the future after the fall of the U.S. It was written by and stars Kevin Wheatley, who also co-directed with Jonny Gillette. The film will be released under the title “National Lampoon Presents Beach Party at the Threshold of Hell” in the fall through National Lampoon Releasing and will be distributed to home video in the first quarter of 2008 through National Lampoon Home Entertainment.

Universal Rounds Out ‘Mummy 3′ Cast, Shoot Dates

Bloody-Disgusting was scooped this afternoon that Alex Pettyfer (Wild Child), John Hannah (pictured inside; The Mummy), Anthony Wong (Matrix Reloaded, Matrix Revolutions) and Isabella Leong (The Eye 10) will round out the cast for Universal Pictures’ The Mummy 3: Curse of the Dragon. They join Luke Ford, Brendan Fraser, Jet Li, Michelle Yeoh and Maria Bello in the film, which is now in production through November in Montreal and China. It is known that the action is set in China, with Li’s story beginning in ancient times before moving to a post-World War II setting. It is also known that one sequence involves the famous terra-cotta warriors, the collection of 6,000 men and their horses that were originally constructed to protect the tomb of an emperor.

‘Pulse’ Sequels Shooting Back-to-Back This September

It was revealed back in February that Dimension Films was planning two sequels to their box office disaster Pulse, which was one of the worst horror films in the past two years. Both films were said to go straight to video without any of the stars of the remake returning. After Dark Films Bumps ‘Skinwalkers’ to August

After Dark Films made a smart move in bumping the release of Stan Winston’s Skinwalkers, which was slated to open against Columbia Pictures I Know Who Killed Me and 20th Century Fox’s The Simpson’s Movie. Now the film will open on August 10, two weeks later than originally planned. Skinwalkers is about a 12-year-old boy who suddenly finds himself at the center of a battle between two warring groups of werewolves. One group of werewolves is sworn to protect him, the other group is trying to kill him — and the young boy’s mother has to find out why her son is at the center of the conflict before time runs out.

Melissa George Held ‘Captive’ By Horror Genre

Aussie spunkette Melissa George (Turistas, Amityville Horror, 30 Days of Night) has signed to star in Captive, a new Amanda Gusack written/directed thriller shooting in Canada this month, according to Moviehole.net. Loads of New Details on ‘Troll’ Remake

We reported earlier this week (here) that a remake to the classic ’86 horror flick Troll is in the works, along with a synopsis. Today we learned that John Carl Buechler will be returning to both write and direct the remake to his own film, which is slated to begin production this September under the new shingle “Movies Plus.” Steve Waterman and Peter Davey are producing. The film is about a young boy enters a parallel world of wizards and magic where he befriends a good witch. Soon the boy learns that he must save the world from an evil Troll/Wizard that has the ability to hide his essence within the bodies of others.

Torture Porn, Where Were You All This Time?

I’m going to make this short and to the point. Last night a few of us were chatting about the state of horror and all of us were slightly perplexed by the media’s excitement in proclaiming “torture pron” as dead. My first thought was-was there even a fad or a trend? The answer is no, in fact there wasn’t. Typical case of the media sensationalizing something. Let’s take a look at every so-called torture porn film since Hostel hit theaters January of 2006: Lionsgate released Saw 3, Sony/Lionsgate released Hostel: Part II and After Dark Films released Captivity. So basically in a year and a half a whopping three torture porn films hit theaters. And for those of you who think The Hills Have Eyes 1 and 2, TCM: The Beginning and Turistas should be included… you’re wrong. Let this be the end of this conversation for good.
