Review: ‘Edgar Allan Poe’s The Fall of the House of Usher’ #1

Richard Corben manages to draw out an eerie mood and spine-chilling atmosphere in his adaptation of Edgar Allan Poe’s Fall of the House of Usher. With Corben’s surrealistic artwork and storytelling, this adaptation brings about the foreboding element of Gothic horror. Literary enthusiasts should not be afraid to pick this up because Poe’s eloquent prose translates very well into the comic book medium. READ MORE

New ‘Pacific Rim’ Trailer Has More Monster Action Than Ever Before!!

This is what I’m talking about. Warner Bros. have just released what they’re calling the “main trailer” for Pacific Rim and it’s f*cking monstrous! This – even more than the awesome Wondercon Trailer – has my dying to see the film. I love the color, I love the imagery and I love those damn Kaiju.

In theaters July 12 from director Guillermo del Toro, “When legions of monstrous creatures, known as Kaiju, started rising from the sea, a war began that would take millions of lives and consume humanity’s resources for years on end. To combat the giant Kaiju, a special type of weapon was devised: massive robots, called Jaegers, which are controlled simultaneously by two pilots whose minds are locked in a neural bridge. But even the Jaegers are proving nearly defenseless in the face of the relentless Kaiju. On the verge of defeat, the forces defending mankind have no choice but to turn to two unlikely heroes-a washed up former pilot (Charlie Hunnam) and an untested trainee (Rinko Kikuchi)-who are teamed to drive a legendary but seemingly obsolete Jaeger from the past. Together, they stand as mankind’s last hope against the mounting apocalypse.

[Special Report] We Head Out To Discover What’s ‘Haunting Melissa’!

I didn’t know what to think about Haunting Melissa prior to my introduction to the project earlier this week. I knew it was some sort of app, but that was about it. Was it animated? Was it just some interactive ghost trapped in your iPad that didn’t do much? Was it lame? I headed over to the Pacific Design Center to check out the new experience from Hooked Digital Media.

I was wrong on all counts. It turns out that Haunting Melissa is actually quite interesting, or at least it has the potential to be. I haven’t seen most of the live action narrative (though what I did see was well-shot, well acted and cinematic) that comprises the experience, but it feels like a real film. And the overall experience seems to be easy, intuitive and fun.

Creator and director Neal Edelstein (who also produced The Ring, 6 Souls, Mulholland Drive), guides me through the process. First I see a minute and a half trailer that sells the project’s storyline, then a 30-second teaser that hits some tonal beats. After that I’m handed a different iPad that contains the actual app (which is free to download here). The layout is handsome and, again, intuitive. On the right side of the screen are tabs that manage the overall content for the storyline – which is organized into different segments to be released at varying intervals. They could be anywhere from 20 minutes to 5 minutes long, and you never know when they’re coming. READ MORE

August Burns Red Releases New Single “Fault Line”

Metalcore band August Burns Red has released a lyric video for “Fault Line”, the first single from their upcoming album Rescue & Restore, which comes out June 25th. The album is the followup to 2011′s Leveler (unless you want to count 2012′s Christmas album August Burns Red Presents: Sleddin’ Hill). The album can be pre-ordered in many different packages here.

Guitarist JB Brubaker comments, “’Fault Line’ is a staple sounding ABR song. It’s a good place to start when whetting people’s appetites for Rescue & Restore.

Brubaker discusses the album, stating, “Rescue & Restore is about challenging other bands and ourselves, as well as fans of this music, to want more than whatever happens to be the current buzz,” explains Brubaker. “We’ve done our best with each new album to try to push our sound in new directions and we’d like to see our peers do the same. People need to realize that there’s not much of a difference between a metalcore song that has a couple breakdowns with a repeating chorus and the latest Lady Gaga song. This genre used to be better than that. It can still be better than that.

NSFW Trailer For ‘Kingdom Come’ Reveals Original Slasher Take

Greg A. Sager’s indie thriller Kingdom Come is hitting the worldwide market at Cannes courtesy Imagination and we’ve got an exclusive look at the trailer. It’s certainly low budget, but it also looks like an original spin on the “people trapped in an asylum” sun-genre.

A group of strangers awake, trapped inside an old abandoned mental hospital. With no apparent way out and no one being able to remember how they even got there they begin searching for a way to escape. As they explore the cold, dark maze of corridors they realize they are not alone and that they are being stalked by supernatural forces with sinister intentions.

For Sam (Ry Barrett) and Jessica (Camille Hollett-French) keeping Celia, (Ellie O’Brien) the youngest member safe proves to be just as difficult as keeping the group together as hostilities grow between them. Everyone begins to question each others motives as secrets linking their pasts are revealed and that someone within the group is not who they say they are. One by one they begin to disappear, all that is left behind to be found by the others is the devastation and carnage of their demise.

As everything and everyone unravels they start to understand that all the windows that have been boarded up from the inside is not so much to keep them in, but keep whatever evil lurks outside… out. In this place nothing is as it seems and the decisions they make here will seal their fate forever.

Katie Uhlmann, Ryan Bartlett, Camille Hollett-French, Kirsten Comerford all star. Check it out below! READ MORE

‘We Are What We Are’ Is Getting A Prequel AND Sequel…

Memento Films International has launched sales on a prequel and a sequel to Jim Mickle’s pretty great We Are What We Are ahead of the picture’s international premiere in Directors’ Fortnight next week, reports Screen Daily.

Finnish filmmaker AJ Annila, best known for genre pictures Sauna (a terrible, yet visually stunning thriller) and Jade Warrior, has signed to direct the prequel What We Were. It will be his first English-language film.

Mexican director Jorge Michel Grau, who made the original film Somo Lo Que Hay, has agreed to do the sequel. He is currently developing a treatment for a 2014 shoot.

Mickle’s picture was about the Parker cannibal clan living in a remote New York State Catskills. The prequel will follows the love story between the mother and father, Frank and Emma Parker, and how Frank first introduced his sweetheart to cannibalism.

Nick Damici, who also worked on We Are What We Are and Mickle’s previous genre hit Stakeland, is writing the script for What We Were. READ MORE

[TV] Full Trailer For “Under The Dome” Gets You Up To Speed

We’ve got a look at the full trailer for the Stephen King adaptation “Under the Dome,” and it’s not looking too shabby for a network mini-series! I feel like it paints some of the characters in broad strokes, but then again that could just be a trailer thing. The show has plenty of time to deepen them out.

‘Under the Dome’ is the story of a small town that is suddenly and inexplicably sealed off from the rest of the world by an enormous transparent dome. The town’s inhabitants must deal with surviving the post-apocalyptic conditions while searching for answers to what this barrier is, where it came from, and if and when it will go away.

The 13-episode summer series will premiere June 24th on CBS.

It stars Mike Vogel, Rachelle Lefevre, Dean Norris, Natalie Martinez, Britt Robertson, Alexander Koch, Colin Ford, Nicholas Strong, Jolene Purdy, and Aisha Hinds. READ MORE

Raven Banner Acquires ‘Cut Throats Nine’ Remake

Genre film distributor Raven Banner Entertainment has picked up the worldwide sales rights to the Harvey Keitel starrer Cut Throats Nine from director Rodrigo Gudino, says THR.

The producers have now added Julian Richings and Kris Holden-Reid to the cast ahead of an early-2014 production.

‘DreadOut’ Indiegogo Campaign Almost Over, Still Short Of Funding Goal

Granted, they’re running a flexible funding campaign, so even if it falls short they’ll get the money they’ve raised so far. It’d still be nice to see two incredible indie horror games get the support they need this week. If you’d like to support the game, you can donate here.

[Indie Horror Spotlight] ‘Among The Sleep’ Is Spooky

In this episode, Adam and David explore a bizarre and terrifying world, where they learn to embrace their inner child and break free from the shackles of their crib in search of their mum. Now they’re working toward achieving a handful of stretch goals that include Oculus Rift support (basic support is already happening, this would be for more advanced functionality) and commentary tracks.

If the idea of a toddler sized Adam climbing dresser shelves so he can reach a doorknob sounds appealing — and really, why wouldn’t it — you should definitely watch me play this alpha.

Lamb Of God’s Randy Blythe Writes Passionate Plea To Metal Fans

Randy Blythe, vocalist for Lamb Of God, has posted a lengthy essay on his Tumblr entitled “Be Carefully”. It is a heartbreaking, emotional piece in which Randy explains many of his feelings after he was exonerated of the death of 19-year old Daniel Nosek, who died after suffering injuries at a 2010 LoG concert in Prague. It is also a post in which Blythe makes impassioned pleas to the metal community, both the fans as well as the promoters/club owners.

Beautifully written and thoughtfully crafted, it is not an easy piece to read. I’ll fully admit that I had tears in my eyes when Blythe describes sitting down with Nosek’s mother and holding her hands while they both wept.

[TV] Even If Cancelled, “Hannibal” Will Continue To Kill…

Even with a potential cancellation in the cards, there appears to be only good news for the Bryan Fuller-headed series “Hannibal.”

While NBC internally debates bringing back the incredibly expensive “Hannibal” for a second season, other networks, including Amazon, are licking their chops in anticipation of a cancellation, reports Deadline.

The series, from “Pushing Daisies” creator Bryan Fuller, got off to a solid ratings start and was in serious contention for an early renewal. The numbers eventually tapered off, and NBC put the renewal decision on hold.

There are no talks going on and “Hannibal” has not been shopped as the producers are waiting on a renewal at NBC.

Trailer For ‘V/H/S/2′ Features TONS Of Bloody Chaos!!!

We finally get a full length trailer for V/H/S/2 and it’s worth the wait! As someone who really liked most of the original film, I’ve got no problem telling you that V/H/S/2 is much, much better. It’s tighter, shorter, leaner and a rock solid viewing experience. It’s also gory, chaotic and fun as hell – which this trailer certainly represents!

Acquired by Magnet Releasing out of Sundance as S-VHS, V/H/S/2 will be arriving on VOD platforms June 6 with a theatrical rollout set for July 12. In the film directed by Simon Barrett, Adam Wingard, Gareth Evans, Eduardo Sanchez, Gregg Hale, Jason Eisener and Timo Tjahjanto, “Inside a darkened house looms a column of TVs littered with VHS tapes, a pagan shrine to forgotten analog gods. The screens crackle and pop endlessly with monochrome vistas of static—white noise permeating the brain and fogging concentration. But you must fight the urge to relax: this is no mere movie night. Those obsolete spools contain more than just magnetic tape. They are imprinted with the very soul of evil.

From the demented minds that brought you last year’s V/H/S comes V/H/S/2, an all-new anthology of dread, madness, and gore. This follow-up ventures even further down the demented path blazed by its predecessor, discovering new and terrifying territory in the genre. This is modern horror at its most inventive, shrewdly subverting our expectations about viral videos in ways that are just as satisfying as they are sadistic. The result is the rarest of all tapes—a second generation with no loss of quality.

Check it out below!!! We’ve also got some new stills from the film! READ MORE
