Reviewed By Jorge Solis: Kicking off in a new story arc, “Clive Barker’s Nightbreed” #9 delivers twisted glee as its pits monsters against humans. Old faces show up in this new direction, which feels like a direct sequel to the cult classic, “Nightbreed.” Taking off where the film ended, the “Nightbreed” series extends its potential and delivers must-read material.

The cause of Midian’s downfall and the prophetic savior of the breed, Boone must find a new home for his lost tribe. With Lori back from the dead, there may be a chance to leave their old life behind. Lurking in the shadows, Ashberry, a former priest, damned himself with the blood of Baphomet. A holy war is coming and Boone doesn’t realize an enemy is close behind him.
I enjoyed how writer Marc Andreyko split the narrative evenly, focusing on the lost tribe and Boone’s love life. We’re learning about the changes Lori is going through since her resurrection. Setting his sights on Lori, Ashberry wants revenge for what happened to him. I loved the surprise twist at the end, which could tear Lori and Boone apart.
Remaining hidden against the world, the lost tribe, which includes Peloquin and Kinski, feel abandoned by their leader. They came up with a pseudonym and wrote the best-selling book, “The Nightbreed.” They have all the riches to ask for, but no home to show for it.
Artist Emmanuel Xerx Javier captures Lori’s new eyesight in the opening pages. Like X-Ray vision, she can see through the skin and scan the bone structure. In her character design, Lori still dresses up like an ‘80s child and still has the hairstyle.
In the second subplot, my favorite part of Devmalya Pramanik’s artwork is when the lost tribe heads out during Mardi Gras. Surrounded by men and women in costumes, no one is paying attention to the Breed. In a hilarious panel, a fan dressed up like Peloquin runs up to the real Peloquin; loving his outfit.
Horror fans should not miss out on “Clive Barker’s Nightbreed” #9, which serves as sequel to the movie. I cannot wait to read how the Breed, Boone, and Lori deal with Ashberry.
