TV: AMC Teams Up With Gale Anne Hurd From “The Walking Dead” For “Area 51″

Now this has potential. Not only is Gale Anne Hurd a producer on “The Walking Dead”, she’s also had a hand in classics such as The Terminator and Aliens. AMC not only has “Walking Dead”, but also has fostered (occasionally contentiously) shows like “Mad Men” and “Breaking Bad”, both of which are light years better than “Walking Dead” (even though TWD is pretty good, there’s no contest).

So when they team up for a new show, I’m hoping for the best. Especially a show like “Area 51″, which not only has the period setting that worked so well for “Mad Men”, but also – you know – aliens. Seems like it could hit a cool middle ground between that show and “X-Files”. The whole thing will be adapted from the bestselling book of the same name by Annie Jacobsen and scripted by Todd E. Kessler.

Per The Hollywood Reporter, “Published in May, Jacobsen’s book revolves around the famed military installation in the world that has never been acknowledged by the U.S. government and explores the myths about the area and those who believe that region is home to aliens, underground tunnel systems and nuclear facilities. Jacobsen interviewed 19 men who served on the base and additional servicemen who were employed there. AMC’s entry will take place in the 1950s-1960s and will focus on those who work at the base and protect the country’s secrets — including the remains of the alleged alien crash at Roswell.

Sounds pretty cool, no?

Updated: TV: The First Clip Of Michonne Slashing Away In “The Walking Dead” Season 3

Update: AMC has released a new video that features Special Effects Make-Up Designer Greg Nicotero, also added inside.

Last night AMC aired a clip from the upcoming Third Season of The Walking Dead after a pre comic-con Season 2 marathon. And it contains one of your favorite characters from the comics, Michonne, doing her thing. I’d expect a lot more of this stuff to hit right before or during SDCC, but this is a pretty cool preview!

The show, “tells the story of the weeks and months that follow a pandemic zombie apocalypse. County Sheriff Rick Grimes travels with his family and a small group of survivors, constantly in search of a safe and secure home. But the constant pressure of fighting off death on a daily basis takes a heavy toll, sending many to the lowest depths of human cruelty. As Rick struggles to keep his family alive, he will discover that the overwhelming fear of the survivors can be far more dangerous than the mindless walkers roaming the earth.

“The Walking Dead” SDCC panel will be on Friday, July 13 at 1:25pm in Hall H. Expect some news out of that one! Panelists include Andrew Lincoln, Sarah Wayne Callies, Laurie Holden, Norman Reedus, Steven Yeun, Lauren Cohan, Denai Guerrero, David Morrisey, Executive Producer and Showrunner Glen Mazzara, Executive Producer Gale Anne Hurd, Executive Producer Robert Kirkman and Co-Executive Producer and Special Effects Make-up Supervisor Greg Nicotero.

TV: Undead Prison Riot In New Images From “The Walking Dead” Season Three!

EW has landed two new images from AMC’s third season of The Walking Dead, both taking us inside the hotly anticipated prison setting that was one of the epicenters of Image and Robert Kirkman’s comic series.

In the first photo, our survivors assume a defensive, Avengers-like position to handle any incoming ghouls, while in the second, a machete wielding Maggie (Lauren Cohan) prepares to deliver a kill shot to a zombie inmate.

I’m incredibly proud of the prison,” says showrunner Glen Mazzara to the mag. “I think our crew has done a great job. It’s a huge sense of scale and magnitude I haven’t seen on any other show as far as construction. What’s important to us is the prison itself is now a character in the show. It’s a haunted house, it’s scary, it’s frightening, and there are parts of the prison that are always terrifying, that are always inaccessible to our group. It’s not necessarily the blessing that the prison in the comic book turned out to be.

But we all know why we’re really excited… the introduction of both Michonne (Danai Gurira) and The Governor (David Morrissey). Hell, friggin’, yes. READ MORE

Visual Effects Behind The Scenes Video For “Walking Dead” Season 3 Teases A Lot, Shows Very Little

AMC’s third season of “The Walking Dead” is in the midst of production and, while it will be a while before it starts airing, the network has not been shy about keeping the show on everyone’s radar. This behind-the-scenes video with Visual Effects Supervisor Victor Scalise shows a lot of cool stuff from Season 2, and hints a little bit about what’s to come in Season 3. Unfortunately since we’re still some months off from the show’s premiere we’ll have to wait to see any actual footage.

Horror Fans Unite: Help See The Release Of ‘The Walking Dead OST’

Horror Fans Unite: Help See The Release Of The Walking Dead OST
Frustrated with AMC’s lack of a The Walking Dead OST release, fans of the series have taken to creating a Facebook group to try and convince the studio execs otherwise. The thought process is that the more users that join this group, the more of a chance there is that an OST will be released. The music of the series is crafted by award-winning composer Bear McCreary, who also scored such shows as Battlestar Galactica, Terminator: The Sarah Connor Chronicles, and more.
I’m a personal fan of Bear and his work. The guy shows not only a passion for music but for really diving into a project and letting it become a part of himself. It’s that personal touch that impresses me the most.

TV: [Spoilers] Find Out Who Plays Michonne In ‘Walking Dead’ Season 3!

michonete011712 TV: [Spoilers] Find Out Who Plays Michonne In Walking Dead Season 3!

Spoiler Warning

A month after casting David Morrissey as iconic Big Bad The Governor, AMC’s “The Walking Dead” has brought in “Treme”‘s Danai Gurira (pictured below) as the badass Michonne, the legendary heroine from the Robert Kirkman comic series on which the zombie drama is based, reports THR.

While I have yet to watch the finale, the hooded, sword-wielding badass made her onscreen debut in the final moments of Sunday’s season two finale, saving Andrea (Laurie Holden) from an almost certain death when she arrived — with a pair of armless and jawless walkers chained behind her — to put down an approaching zombie.

Based on the character in the long-running comic series by Kirkman, the hooded Michonne arrives much the same way she did in the AMC series: Saving Otis from a group of walkers and joining Rick and company in the safety of the prison, which was featured in the final scene of the season Sunday.

The third season begins this coming October with much anticipation as the creative crew behind the series is quite aware of the pacing issues. In fact, things have been on the up and up IMO. What say you? READ MORE

[Blu-ray Review] AMC’s ‘The Killing: The Complete First Season’

When the The Killing premiered in its native homeland of Denmark in March 2007, the first series was split into two parts, with the second run of episodes set to air the following year. But the ratings were through the roof, which caused the network to run them almost six months early. With press like that, it’s easy to see why The Killing garnered stateside attention and was remade for AMC. It’s essentially a police procedural, with a strong emphasis on how the murder of 17-year-old Rosie Larsen (Katie Findlay) affects her family, her community (by way of a mayoral election), and the detectives trying to close her case. We’ve just now added a second preview clip from AMC’s “The Walking Dead” episode 02.11, “Judge, Jury, Executioner.” Check out a preview from next Sunday’s episode below, which airs March 4 at 9/10c.

After an incredibly lackluster first half of the season, it took me three weeks to buckle down and watch the last trio of episodes. While the show is still lacking in various departments, it was 110% more entertaining, jam-packed with action and really pushing hard on the characters. It takes more than 3 episodes to repair the damage done, so I expect the build to the season to finale to be incredible. Only time will tell.

TV: John Hawkes Will Not Be In “The Walking Dead”, Season 3 Location News…

WalkindDeadLand20312 TV: John Hawkes Will Not Be In The Walking Dead, Season 3 Location News...

Earlier this month it was announced that “The Walking Dead” was renewed for a third season and bumped up to 16 episodes. That’s up from 6 episodes in Season 1 and 13 in Season 2. Just recently Tom Savini (who is lobbying for the part) said that John Hawkes was the producers’ choice to play Philip Blake, aka “The Governor”, in next year’s season.

Apparently that’s not the case. An update from Lilja’s Library drops a bomb on that rumor along with some additional Season 3 tidbits.

The small town of Senoia in Coweta County is about to become zombie central for the filming of a hit cable show The Walking Dead. The show is scheduled to shoot in the town in May and construction of zombie sets will begin next week, which will involve 60 local carpenters. Scott Tigchelaar of Raleigh Studios Atlanta says people can expect to see the town a little dirtier than normal to fit the look of the show… It was earlier rumored that John Hawkes would play Philip Blake, the psychotic zombie-killer who declares himself the Governor of Woodbury. Now, it looks like that won’t happen. Hawkes’ publicist states quite plainly that “John is NOT appearing on The Walking Dead.”

Don’t forget that the still ongoing Season 2 returns February 12th on AMC. READ MORE

TV: ‘The Walking Dead’ Fireworks Begin in February

walkingdead120211 TV: The Walking Dead Fireworks Begin in February

The first half of “The Walking Dead” season 2 was a bust. It never elevated the characters and it never fully grabbed my attention. But there’s some hope, which comes from executive producer Glen Mazzara who was added midseason as the series’ new showrunner. I believe his was behind the midseason finale, which leads me to believe the second half could be a major step in the right direction.

Actor Norman Reedus (“Daryl”) talked about the show’s February revival with Daemon’s TV and explained that we haven’t seen anything yet…

I can say that in the second half, after this hiatus, people are done talking,” he explained. “It’s all kind of firecrackers from here on out. It gets more action packed. The first part of the season, it gets slow when people have to talk. That’s just how it works. I think the writers have done such a great job with setting up storylines and explaining them when they need to be explained, not over talking it and not over thinking it. There are certain things that need to be said to keep the story moving and I think they’ve done a good job with it. I know when people watch the show they go, ‘More zombies. More death.’ But you have to do a bit of talking. Otherwise it’s ‘Transformers.’

TV: ‘The Walking Dead’s’ Morning-After Controversy

TV: The Walking Deads Morning After Controversy

I didn’t watch Sunday night’s episode until yesterday, but apparently there was an outcry of anger when Lori’s (played by Sarah Wayne Callies) character takes a morning-after pill in hopes to abort her and Shane’s (Jon Bernthal) lovechild (which she then forces herself to throw it up).

Showrunner Glen Mazzara responded to the controversy: “The producers and writers of ‘The Walking Dead’ are fully aware that the morning-after pill would not induce an abortion or miscarriage,” said Mazzara in a statement obtained by TheWrap. “We exercised our artistic creative license to explore a storyline with one of our characters, not to make any pro-life or pro-choice political statement. We sincerely hope that people are not turning to the fictional world of ‘The Walking Dead’ for accurate medical information.

The American Civil Liberties Union was one of the more vocal detractors.

In a blog post titled, “Walking Dead Is Wrong on Emergency Contraception, Stick to Zombies,” the organization huffed, “‘The Walking Dead’ is not doing its fans or themselves any favors by promoting false information. Lori is several weeks pregnant and the morning-after pill can’t induce a miscarriage. What it can do is prevent pregnancy if taken within 5 days of unprotected sex; although the sooner it is taken the more likely it is to work.
