Red Faction: Armageddon Slips A Week, Makes June Look Even Better

Now, don’t go taking a hammer to the nearest wall but Red Faction: Armageddon has indeed been delayed. But fear not, while F.3.A.R.’s recent delay will make us wait another month, Armageddon is only getting pushed back a month. Maybe they’re afraid L.A. Noire will horde all the attention? Or perhaps they simply need more time for some last second spit and polish. Either way, June just keeps looking better.

The game’s demo is still on track for its May 3rd release and for the less mathematically inclined the new release dates are as follows: June 7th in the US and for everyone else you can expect it on June 10th. With Armageddon, Alice: Madness Returns (6/14), Shadows of the Damned (6/21), F.3.A.R. (6/24) and E3 (6/7-9), June has become one of the most exciting months of the year. READ MORE

Red Faction Demo Demolishes, Then Rebuilds XBLA & PSN May 3rd

The followup to one of my favorite games of 2009, Red Faction: Guerilla, is borrowing a little from the horror genre as it goes under the surface of Mars. From what we’ve seen of the game so far Armageddon looks to be shaping up quite nicely, and while I don’t know about you, I’m all for mixing a little Dead Space into my Red Faction mix. The game releases for the Xbox 360, PS3 and PC on May 31st for those of us in The States, June 2nd for the Aussies and a day later in the UK.

For the unfamiliar, Armageddon takes place on Mars five years after the events in Guerrilla. Unfortunately, the destruction of the Terraformer that kept Mars nice and sunny left its surface uninhabitable, forcing the colonists to burrow deep underground, kind of like Zerglings trying to escape a Siege Tank’s fire. Yeah, I just went full-on nerd there. Anyway, the colonists end up digging too deep unleashing an ancient race of scary bug aliens that look like the long lost cousins of the Reapers in Resident Evil 5 and all hell breaks loose. Fortunately, you play as Darius Mason, grandson of Alec (the main dude from the last game) and he’s totally equipped to kick tons of alien ass. READ MORE

This Red Faction ‘Ruin Mode’ Trailer Comes With Some Concept Art

This game looks like explosive good fun and while it’ll retain much of the mindless destructive tendencies that Guerrilla had what really sets Red Faction: Armageddon apart is its added survival horror flavor. In case you’re unfamiliar with it, Armageddon takes place under the surface of Mars where humanity has drilled too deep, waking up an ancient race of creepy bug aliens. Add on top of that the blow shit up and put it back together again features from the first game, new weapons, mechs and the Ruin Mode that you can check out below and this game is looking pretty damn good.

In case you’re worried about spending much of the game underground, head past the jump for some incredibly cool artwork that showcases the varied looks and atmosphere of the levels we’ll be exploring when Armageddon breaks down store shelves on May 31st. READ MORE

I hope there’s still room on your calendar because this week has been a great week for release dates and it’s getting even better now that we know exactly when to expect Red Faction: Armageddon. Put a big explosion on May 31st people, because that’s when we’ll know if the series’ brave plunge into horror was a great idea or not. This new release date leaves us with only three short months to really let that excitement build up, but I have it on good authority that the wait will be worth it.
