Animated ‘Carrie’ Mother’s Day Card Exacts Its Revenge!

MGM and Screen Gems have released a pretty cool animated Mother’s Day card for their Carrie remake. As you all know, that’s probably the only non-religious holiday Mrs. White would deem worth celebrating.

In theaters October 18, the Kimberly Peirce-directed redo is “A reimagining of the classic horror tale about Carrie White (Chloë Grace Moretz), a shy girl outcast by her peers and sheltered by her deeply religious mother (Julianne Moore), who unleashes telekinetic terror on her small town after being pushed too far at her senior prom.” Alex Russell, Ansel Elgort, Gabriella Wilde, Judy Greer and Portia Doubleday also star.

[Album Review] Purson ‘The Circle And The Blue Door’

Hailing from London, Purson is a five-piece band that seems very displaced, sounding like an amalgamation of 60’s folk and 70’s heavy metal with pinches of classic prog influences. Self described as “vaudeville carny psych”, the band has jut released their debut album The Circle And The Blue Door via Metal Blade Records, a somewhat interesting choice yet oddly fitting. But does the group pull off this style or does it fall short as something campy and trite? Find out below! READ MORE

UK ‘Carrie’ Poster Offers A Bloody Variant

The gang over at Empire has a look at the UK poster for MGM and Screen Gems’ Carrie remake. I actually like it a little bit better than the US one, even though it’s nothing new from the campaign really.

In theaters October 18 (in the US, the UK gets is November 29th), the Kimberly Peirce-directed redo is “A reimagining of the classic horror tale about Carrie White (Chloë Grace Moretz), a shy girl outcast by her peers and sheltered by her deeply religious mother (Julianne Moore), who unleashes telekinetic terror on her small town after being pushed too far at her senior prom.” Alex Russell, Ansel Elgort, Gabriella Wilde, Judy Greer and Portia Doubleday also star.

Fresh New Pic From ‘Carrie’ Shows Mama’s Protective Side

MGM and Screen Gems are prepping their Carrie remake for release later this year and a new still has emerged featuring Mrs. White taking her daughter home from school.

[Trailer Tracks] Dissecting The ‘Carrie’ Trailer

Movie commercials offer us a great service; they not only show us which upcoming movies look good, but also which ones to avoid. And if one looks closely, they often reveal more than intended about the film in question. In honor of this profound art, I give you TRAILER TRACKS, an examination of upcoming movie commercials: What they say, what they don’t say, and what they say on accident about the product being sold to you, the excited chump.

Mama, Prom, Blood And Telekinesis Fill Out The Full ‘Carrie’ Trailer!!! Plus Over 2 Dozen High-Rez Images!

After a teaser last year (and then a trailer teaser yesterday) MGM and Screen Gems finally have released the full trailer for their Carrie remake. It looks a little heavy on the CG to me, but at least the pace seems brisk. I’m reserving final judgement until I see the film, but I think DePalma is safe on his throne.

A Brief Clip From Tomorrow’s ‘Carrie’ Trailer Makes Things Move!!

MGM and Screen Gems’ release the full trailer for their Carrie remake tomorrow, but Entertainment Tonight just aired a brief, high quality tease of it. Some of it looks cool, but I’m not sold on the floating books stuff. Maybe once I see it in the context of the whole trailer! Or… maybe once I see it in the context of the whole film! I roll old school sometimes.

This New ‘Carrie’ Pic Is A Bloody Variation!

MGM and Screen Gems’ Carrie doesn’t come out until the 4th quarter of this year, but that doesn’t mean there won’t be a steady trickle of news regarding it between now and then. Case in point? This new still that was released to Empire magazine (Scan via Comic Book Movie). It’s a variation on the previous blood drenched look we got, only the blood here is drying a bit. The vibe is a bit more “scabby.”

[Toy Fair '13] NECA Sneaks Looks At ‘Pacific Rim,’ ‘Carrie,’ ‘Aliens,’ ‘RoboCop,’ and ‘Predator’!

UPDATED WITH HI-RES IMAGES!

Even though NECA has yet to unveil all of their surprise announcements, the doors are officially open on the New York Toy Fair, and the toy company has already shared quite a few “first Looks.”

With new Prometheus figures to be unveiled in the next few days, the company has released prototypes of their new Aliens line, which includes Hudson, Hicks, and a slew of Aliens (such as the Xenomorph Warrior). There also appears to be an “Exploding Alien,” which is incredible.

They’ve also shared their Carrie figure, featuring a normal and varient version of Chloe Moretz as the title character, one of which is covered in pig’s blood. While the movie is in theaters this October, the toys will be in stores this August. A quick update also included a look at 3 Jaeger’s from Guillermo del Toro’s Pacific Rim, in theaters this July.

Then there’s the reveal of a ED-209 (Enforcement Droid Series 209) from Paul Verhoeven’s 1987 RoboCop. Says wiki, the ED-209, created by Omni Consumer Products, serves as a heavily-armed obstacle and foil for the series’ titular character, as well as a source of comic relief due to its lack of intelligence and tendency towards clumsy malfunctions.

Lastly, for now, come a sneak peak at new Predator and Predators, as well as a major gift to fans collecting the toys. Says NECA, “The Predator Trophy Wall”(!) is “a reward for those who collected them all. If you got everything you have all the skulls except the BIG dino one.” The Predator line consists of two versions of Arnold Schwarzenegger as Dutch, as well as an invisible Predator.

More news and hi-res imagery coming in the next few days. READ MORE

[News Bites] ‘Carrie’s’ Gym Report Card; ‘RoboCop’ Armor; Sweet Teaser For ‘Dyatlov Pass Incident’

Here’s a quick news round up to get this evening party started. It begins with a look at one of Carrie’s report cards. Says the Facebook page: “Her gym teacher, Ms. Desjardin, was obviously aware that Carrie was in need of some extra attention. But did she know how much attention was needed?” Check out the report card inside. Kimberly Peirce’s Carrie, which stars Chloe Moretz as the title character alongside Julianne Moore, Alex Russell, Ansel Elgort, Gabriella Wilde, Judy Greer and Portia Doubleday, was recently moved to October 18 of this year.

Also inside, via Latino Review, you’ll find a picture of an EM-208 Humanoid Drone, which is part of OmniCorp’s product line from MGM’s RoboCop reboot/sequel in theaters February 7, 2014. Director Jose Padilha reimagines the tale of part man, part machine, all cop starring Joel Kinnaman as the title character, Gary Oldman as the scientist who creates RoboCop, and Samuel L. Jackson as media mogul Pat Novak. Abbie Cornish, Jackie Earle Haley, Michael Kenneth Williams, Marianne Jean-Baptiste, Michael Keaton and Aimee Garcia also star. Peter Weller played the character in the original and the 1990 sequel.

Lastly, we’ve added a Russian teaser for Renny Harlin’s The Dyatlov Pass Incident, and it looks awesome. While we don’t get too much from the Russian-language tease, the true story is off-the-charts freaky and is sure to deliver quite a punch in theaters. “It follows a group of students on a trek to investigate the true life mystery of nine Russian skiers who befell an unexplained death while skiing in the Russian mountains in 1959. To this day, their deaths have been one of the most bizarre unsolved mysteries of the 20th century.READ MORE

The Fan Made ‘Carrie’ Poster That Tricked The Web

A really cool Carrie poster began to circulate early yesterday morning. It featured Julianne Moore as young Carrie’s mother with blood red eyes, and a crucifix around her neck. Evan Dickson quickly checked with Sony, who told us that it was fan made. Hence, we didn’t report on it. But alas, a day later and sites are reporting that it’s legit without even providing any sources; therefore we’re here to share the “fan made” one-sheet that’s tricked the Web.

‘Carrie’ Has Been Shifted All The Way To October

MGM and Sony have used their telekinetic energy to move Carrie all the way until October. This means we have to sift through months more of their boring Facebook viral campaign before a real trailer and poster hit. Sigh.

[Year End] What Counts As “Horror”?

Oh hey, I didn’t see you there!

What is horror? What counts as horror? You guys might have noticed a few films in my “Best And Worst” that don’t necessarily fit the conventionally accepted mold for a genre film. Chronicle and The Grey for example, are two movies that more than likely would not be filed on the “Horror” shelf at Blockbuster or under the “Horror” tab in iTunes.

The reason they’re featured here? Sometimes it’s fun to write about movies that, while they have horror elements, stretch the scope of the content we feature on the site. It’s fun to have more colors to play with and, more importantly, it’s fun to expose you guys to this stuff. I like talking to the readers about it, conversing with you in the comments about what does or doesn’t turn you on about any given film. It’s not for hits, believe me. If you think something like The Grey pulls in more traffic than Maniac or Texas Chainsaw 3D you’re wrong. I feel that discussing films that might seem tertiary to the genre improves the quality of the overall conversation. It provides a better context in which to discuss the nuts and bolts of the pure horror films that drive 95% of our “movies” page.

It’s also incredibly entertaining to talk about movies that skirt genres rather than embrace them wholeheartedly, since it allows us to look at the very criteria we use to define those genres. Let’s talk more inside (spoilers within)… READ MORE

[2013 HORROR MOVIE PREVIEW] SONY/SCREEN GEMS/FILM DISTRICT

While Sony and Screen Gems typically pump out the horror, most of the genre films they release fail to deliver. This is because the heft of their releases are franchises that they hope to (and do) cash in on. Not to mention that many of the Screen Gems titles are made for kids, and not hardcore horror fans.

Last year saw another Resident Evil and Underworld, both “fine” by sequel standards, alongside Ghost Rider and Total Recall. There’s four incredibly bland franchise films.

2013 looks promising, though, as the first quarter sees not just Carrie, but also the hotly anticipated Evil Dead reboot; it’s an understatement to say that horror comes out strong next year. In fact, the success of Evil Dead could potentially propel the genre into a new age of dark horror. READ MORE

[TOYS] This NECA ‘Carrie’ Figure Has The Power To Move Bills From Your Wallet!

When I was at the San Diego Comic-Con back in July I snapped a few photos of these NECA Series 2 Prometheus and Gremlins 2 figurines, but now we have a closer look at a couple of them courtesy of Idle Hands.

The real revelation here though is the introduction of Carrie to the line, it’s not the Sissy Spacek version but the Chloë Grace Moretz incarnation from the upcoming remake directed by Kimberly Peirce. There’s a cool “before” look at her at the prom and a nice “after” once she’s covered in pig’s blood. The Carrie pieces are set to be avail in UK in Jan and in the US in February or March – right in time for the film’s opening on March 15th, 2013.

This Viral Image Indicates Mrs. White Thought ‘Carrie’ Was A Cancer

Sony Screen Gems’ Carrie stars Chloë Grace Moretz as the title character along with Julianne Moore as her overprotective mother Margaret. Director Kimberly Peirce On The New Ending Of ‘Carrie’!

Sony Screen Gems’ Carrie stars Chloë Grace Moretz as the title character along with Julianne Moore as her overprotective mother Margaret. Obviously quite a few things remain intact from Brian De Palma’s 1976 version of the film, but producer Kevin Misher and director Kimberly Peirce have also been vocal about the fact that they are, first and foremost, basing their adaptation on Stephen King’s book – which had some key differences.

In the new, “A reimagining of the classic horror tale about Carrie White (Chloë Grace Moretz), a shy girl outcast by her peers and sheltered by her deeply religious mother (Julianne Moore), who unleashes telekinetic terror on her small town after being pushed too far at her senior prom.” Brian De Palma’s 1976 film version of Carrie earned Oscar nominations for stars Sissy Spacek and Piper Laurie.

10 Great Jump Scares in Horror!

The thing about revisiting jump scares is, they’re just never quite as effective the second (or third, or fourth, or ninetieth) time around. So when putting together this list, I made a point of seeking out the ones that a) still have an effect on me, even after repeat viewings; b) boast some level of real craftsmanship beyond just “aahh! it’s dark! and there’s a cat! jumping!”; c) stick in the mind long after the initial scare has come and gone; and/or d) display some combination of the above traits.

So what did I come up with at the end of it all? Check out my final ten below, then log your own picks in the comments. READ MORE

Who Cares If Brian De Palma Gives ‘Carrie’ His Blessing?!

On March 15 Sony and MGM will burn theaters down with their modern adaptation of Stephen King’s classic Carrie, this time dropping the pig’s blood on poor Chloe Moretz’s head with the help of director Kimberly Peirce.

Typically when a classic is remade we all immediately wonder what the original’s director thinks. Typically.

Fangoria caught up with Brian De Palma, who helmed the 1976 film version that earned Oscar nominations for stars Sissy Spacek and Piper Laurie.

I know Kimberly Pierce, I’ve known her for twelve years,” De Palma told the magazine. “She’s a bright, talented person. I tried to encourage her to make a movie very quickly after the success of Boys [Don't Cry] and it took her years to find right material…but anyway, she contacted me when she decided to do Carrie. We discussed the right way to approach it, who she was going to cast and we had a few discussions about it and basically I gave her my blessing. She’s a very talented girl and I’m really excited to see what she does. It will be more like the book, I think, which is Sue Snell’s testimony which puts Carrie in kind of brackets…

Really? I mean, REALLY?!?!

I’m sorry but the only person who has the right to “give their blessing” is the great Stephen King. De Palma isn’t the mastermind behind one of the greatest psychological horror films of all time, King is, therefore who gives a crap what De Palma thinks? Somebody get King on the line, STAT!
