I haven’t always seen eye-to-eye with director David R. Ellis, but the first ever image from his Shark Night 3D is pretty effin cool! The exclusive hi-res still features a bloody shark entering a cage containing dinner: the delicious Sara Paxton. Nummy!

In theaters September 2 from Relativity, Shark Night 3D revolves around a group of college friends who spend the weekend at a lake, only to discover that danger lurks beneath its waters. The hope is that it will be Jaws for the 3D generation.

‘Shark Night 3D’ Additional Photography, New Details!

Bloody Disgusting learned that David R. Ellis is going back behind cameras for the tentatively Shark Night 3D, adding a few new scenes this April in Los Angeles.

We also learned of some fresh details on the horror flick that revolves around a group of college friends who spend the weekend at a lake, only to discover that danger lurks beneath its waters. Apparently, in an homage to the original Piranha, a slew of sharks appear in freshwater lakes, with the attack part of a sinister plan by a group of locals.

Relativity Media’s thriller was original to open a few weeks before Piranha 3DD, but Dimenion shifted the flick to November leaving Shark Night with a solid September 2 date.

Video: Several Behind-the-Scenes Looks at ‘Shark Night 3D’

Still awaiting its official name, inside you’ll find several behind-the-scenes videos for David R. Ellis’ Shark Night 3D that arrives in theaters September 2 from Relativity Media.

Shark Night revolves around a group of college friends who spend the weekend at a lake, only to discover that danger lurks beneath its waters. The hope is that it will be Jaws for the 3D generation. Sinqua Walls, Chris Carmack, Alyssa Diaz, Joel David Moore, Thesps Sara Paxton, Dustin Milligan, and Katharine McPhee all star.

I’d quickly say keeps your hopes in check as I can guarantee this won’t be the Jaws for the 3D generation (especially since we’ve already seen Jaws 3D). Ellis is responsible for the horrid The Final Destination, Snakes on a Plane and the abysmal Asylum. Although, I will admit that I quite enjoy his Final Destination 2.

‘Shark Night 3D’ Could Be Titled ‘Untitled 3D Shark Thriller’?!

David R. Ellis played mouse and followed the path of cheese when New Line Cinema released his hilariously-titled Snakes on a Plane. This time around, Ellis hopes to avoid the name game and just say it how it is, which would be an interesting gimmick on its own.

The director tells NY Mag that he actually is fighting for Shark Night 3D to be titled Untitled 3D Shark Thriller, a very honest and direct title:

I hated the original title [Shark Night 3D], too,” says Ellis, reached in his editing bay, “so at our weekly production meetings, I made everyone on the crew come up with names — Chums, Fins, Terror on the Lake — but they all seemed kind of cheesy. And so until I hear a better name, I like what we’ve got right now: Untitled 3D Shark Thriller. The title says everything you need to know: ‘We’ve got sharks.’ ‘It’s in 3D.’ and, ‘It’s a thriller.’

Relativity will have to work fast on approving a title as they’ll need to soon begin marketing the film for release this coming September.

Starring Sinqua Walls, Chris Carmack, Alyssa Diaz, Joel David Moore, Thesps Sara Paxton, Dustin Milligan, and Katharine McPhee, Shark Night revolves around a group of college friends who spend the weekend at a lake, only to discover that danger lurks beneath its waters. The hope is that it will be Jaws for the 3D generation.

Party During ‘Shark Night 3D’ Next September

It was announced earlier this week that Relativity Media – who now has its own distribution arm after acquiring the marketing and distribution operations of Overture Films earlier this year – had scored domestic rights to Shark Night 3D. We learned today that the tentatively titled horror pic will officially hit theaters on September 2. The David R. Ellis-directed pic stars Sara Paxton, Dustin Milligan, Katharine McPhee, Chris Carmack, Alyssa Diaz, Joel David Moore, Donal Logue, Sinqua Walls and Chris Zylka. The story, penned by Jesse Studenberg and Will Hayes, surrounds a group of college friends spending a weekend at a house on the lake, only to find a shark lurking. Sounds cool, except for the fact that Ellis is directing. Did you see Asylum? You really should(n’t). Relativity is also releasing Season of the Witch next year.
