A ragtag group of paranormal researchers reopen their notorious ghost removal service, and a new generation of Ghostbusters is brought on board to be green slimed and trained to contain the mischievous spirits. We previously reported that the new ‘Busters will be lead by Dana and Peter’s lovechild, Oscar.
It’s said to be in the vein of Goonies, and is about a local boy scout troop that must save the local girl scout troop from a zombie outbreak on an overnight camping trip.
Some slight news on Sony’s Ghostbusters, which will apparently not be shooting this summer since writer Etan Cohen is still only about halfway through the script. The good news is that Dan Aykroyd is apparently inspired by some cool real-world scientific discoveries that they could use to bridge over into the supernatural universe for the sequel.
Aykoryd told ABC (via Badass Digest), “ I feel re-encouraged, reinvigorated by the pages that I have seen. I know that we’re expecting half of the screenplay to be completed very soon. It should be into production by the fall and be shooting by the new year. I won’t say anything, it’s very exciting. The Higgs boson and the particle theories, gluons and mesons, that really gives us a scientific base in terms of our fictional storytelling, to open up to another dimension and have something horrible come through.”
Harold Ramis, Dan Aykroyd, Ernie Hudson, Rick Moranis and Sigourney Weaver are all rumored to be returning at some capacity. Again – this will crush all of your dreams if/when it happens. Trust me.
Hiding within an article over at Deadline, they report that Kevin Costner and Ivan Reitman’s football feature Draft Day is being put in turnaround by Paramount as Ivan Reitman will begin shooting the new Ghostbusters next summer.
Next summer is a long ways away, and there are quite a few questions that need answering before it goes into production (something I won’t believe until I receive a shooting announcement from Columbia Pictures). First, is it going to be a sequel or is it going to be a reboot? Is Bill Murray officially out? Or will he be included by some sort of other means (digital, animated etc…)? And, will the plot follow Peter and Dana’s lovechild, Oscar, who is rumored to lead the modern Ghost Buster team?
There’s a lot to find out before next summer as Etan Cohen rewrites Lee Eisenberg and Gene Stupnitsky’s screenplay.

While Bill Murray repeatedly slimes the idea of Ghostbusters 3, Columbia Pictures, along with director Ivan Reitman, and stars Harold Ramis and Dan Aykroyd, continue to push forward with the misadventures of Dr. Egon Spengler, Dr. Raymond Stantz, Dr. Peter Venkman and Winston Zeddmore.
While we’ve watched everyone involved trade verbal blows, and then deny them, something interesting terrifying has been brewing under the streets of New York City.
In a recent interview with Collider, Reitman was asked about the sequel. His response sent me into a state of shock: “I think Ghostbusters probably should be remade, if we can get it all right. We’re working on it, so we’ll see.”
Unfortunately, reporter Christina Radish didn’t follow up with the shocking statement. It’s as if it went completely unheard. If I were in that position, they’d be checking to see if I were okay after having fallen off my chair.

Ah, Ghostbusters 3. I’m sure you’ll be terrible. That’s not some snarky online reflexive writing – I love to love things – but it looks like this project is just creatively circling the drain and that it’s sole reason for existing will be the cash. Fairly soon we might actually have a third film, which means the balance in the universe will have shifted. We’ll have one great Ghostbusters and two bad ones. And now one thing’s for sure – Bill Murray Won’t Be In It. We all knew that was coming, but here it really is. Once Dan Aykroyd admits to this, that means the last person on earth who was holding out hope has finally given in.
Last month, on the heels of this report, Men in Black 3 scribe Etan Cohen was been tapped to rewrite the sequel for the studio. He was supposed to be rewriting the draft that “The Office” scribes Lee Eisenberg and Gene Stupnitsky were hired to write in Setember 2008.
Except now it appears he’s been writing a draft, on Dan Aykroyd’s marching orders, without Murray’s character Peter Venkman. When Metro asked Aykroyd if Murray would be in the film he replied, “No, I can tell you he won’t be involved..” He continued, “It’s sad but we’re passing it on to a new generation. Ghostbusters 3 can be a successful movie without Bill. My preference would be to have him involved but at this point he doesn’t seem to be coming and we have to move on. It’s time to make the third one.”
The plan remains to have the old Ghostbusters pass the torch to a new bunch of rapscallions. Excited? *Oh and I would hope Peter Venkman isn’t in the script. How sad would it be if they got someone else to play him?

At the time, the supernatural action-comedy was Columbia Pictures’ highest-grossing film ever, until it was beaten by Men in Black and then Spider-Man.
Third installment is expected to find original castmembers Harold Ramis, Dan Aykroyd, Ernie Hudson and Bill Murray passing the torch to a new generation of ghostbusters. Cohen previously wrote Ben Stiller’s Tropic Thunder and Mike Judge’s Idiocracy. He’s also attached to make his directorial debut with Paramount’s horror-comedy Boy Scouts vs. Zombies, which follows three high school Boy Scouts who must use their skills to save their small town from a vicious zombie outbreak.
The film will use a time travel element that moves the action from contemporary back to 1969. Brolin will play the younger version of Jones’s Agent Kay character.

Back in December of 2010, we reported that Paramount had snagged the rights to Boy Scouts vs. Zombies, a screenplay in the vein of Goonies about a local boy scout troop that must save the local girl scout troop from a zombie outbreak on an overnight camping trip. The script was written by Carrie Evans and Emi Mochizuki and made 2010′s Black List.
And now it appears as though Tropic Thunder and Men In Black scribe Etan Cohen is set to make his directorial debut with the material. Per The Hollywood Reporter, “Etan Cohen, one of the town’s hottest comedy scribes, is in negotiations to make his directorial debut on Paramount’s horror-comedy ‘Boy Scouts vs. Zombies’.”
The article also mentions that Cohen will supervise the writing of a new draft by Lona Williams (Drop Dead Gorgeous). That seems like an interesting choice since she hasn’t been a credited writer on anything recently, maybe Cohen is using his could to get her back in the game a bit. READ MORE
