Celebrating The Past Year Of Hellraiser

Fans have been waiting since the late 80s for another instalment of Hellraiser brought about by Clive Barker. Over the past year that wish finally came true. BOOM! Studios is now celebrating a triumphant year for “Hellraiser” with a very special “Hellraiser Annual” issue. In this issue, Barker further explores the Cenobite War, and reveals the inner workings of his beautiful/horrible Hell. I have a feeling there are many fans out there who are still ignoring this simply because it’s a comic book, which is a real shame. This annual issue is a great place to see what’s got everyone so excited that Pinhead is back. Check out the five-page preview after the jump.

TV: Got Space On Your DVR? “Hellraiser” Series On The Way

HellraiserSeries40212 TV: Got Space On Your DVR? Hellraiser Series On The Way

Like Hellraiser? More specifically the first two films in the series? Then you may be in luck since Variety is reporting that Sonar Entertainment (previously RHI Entertainment) is developing “Hellraiser” for the small screen along with some of the franchise’s early principal players.

Per Variety “Sonar is co-developing with Eric Gardner’s Panacea Ent. “Hellraiser,” a TV series based on the cult British horror franchise. Gardner will exec produce along with Larry Kuppin, whose company New World Entertainment is behind the first two ‘Hellraiser’ pics.

Sonar announced, “One of the most successful (and terrifying) franchises in film history is ready for its weekly television debut. For over 25 years, fans have followed the exploits of an insidious villain named Pinhead, summoned from a nightmarish underworld by an ancient puzzle box. He will seduce you with power and tempt you with fear, until your soul belongs to him.
Now, for the first time, a weekly series set in the fantastic realm of Hellraiser will thrill audiences worldwide.

There’s no word on a network yet, not that there needs to be since the series isn’t actually in production yet. Still… could be cool for you Hellraiser fans if it ever comes to fruition. Either way it can’t be worse than the last movie. READ MORE

The battle between Kirsty and Elliot Spencer rages on in the new issue of Hellraiser. Spencer and his comrades have returned to the place where he left his former human life, in order to destroy the box that took him. However, while Spencer is trying to destroy the box on earth, Kirsty is trying to understand it in Hell. And if the two worlds collide, chaos is sure to ensue. All Hell Breaks Loose In Hellraiser #12

After Clive Barker’s recent brush with death, his work seems more significant than ever. More importantly, his work is the best it’s been in years and BOOM’s ongoing Hellraiser is proof of that. After returning to his earthly form, Pinhead is now on a mission to see the world burn, and he’s willing to do whatever it takes to see that he has his vengeance. Check the preview below for some stellar artwork from Stephen Thompson and Janusz Ordon. Read on for the skinny…

Review: Hellraiser #11

“The Box of Sorrows” continues to emanate ghastly sighs in the latest issue of Hellraiser, and, once again, they hum a haunting symphony of pain and lust. Kirsty continues her reign as High Priestess of the Configuration, and Captain Elliot Spencer continues to seek its destruction. Except, now, protocol has become obsolete, and even the highest levels of intuition won’t help either of them. Read on for the skinny…

[OMFG] Tool Songs Put Behind Horror Movie Scenes

Tool is one of those bands whose music fits perfectly with the horror genre. It’s intense, visceral, brooding, atmospheric, takes its time, and builds to violent climaxes. In short, each song is a journey and you better believe it’s not an easy one to take. That’s why I’m so fascinated with these fan-made videos below. They take the music of Tool and provide visuals from horror movies, creating an amazing relationship that works amazingly well. Below you can see Jambi mixed with Hellraiser as well as H mixed with Eraserhead. You can also check out 46 & 2 mixed with Pan’s Labyrinth here. Thanks to my friend Sway for the tip!

New ‘Halloween’ Book In The Works, ‘Halloween 3D’ Pushed Back?

Hallowmyers13112 New Halloween Book In The Works, Halloween 3D Pushed Back?

There are some unconfirmed reports emerging that Halloween 3D may be getting pushed back from its October 26th release date. As of right now, STYD is reporting that the film has been moved to next year. Right now their story is unconfirmed, but the film hasn’t started shooting – or even firm casting yet. So I wouldn’t necessarily expect it this year.

When BD’s Brian Collins sat down for a chat with Todd Farmer about the status of that project back in September, the date still looked to be October of this year, if not sooner. “Absolutely. The date has been set. October of 2012. And even that can be pushed forward if the movie’s ready, like the last couple.” We’ll see what comes of it in the next few days. But in this town, it’s usually later rather than sooner. And the lack of momentum thus far does indicate that it might be pushed.

In other, better, Halloween news, if you liked “Crystal Lake Memories” then the writers of “Halloween: The Complete Authorized History” are looking to tickle your fancy as well.

Hit the jump for the press release on the new compendium. READ MORE

GRAPHIC CONTENT PICK OF THE WEEK – ‘Hellraiser’ #8

Clive Barker has only laid his hands on Hellraiser three times. The first was when he put his pen down to craft the original story, The Hellbound Heart, the second was to write and direct the first film, and this gem of a series is the third. There have been loads of garbage sequels, nothing coming even close to Barker’s initial groundbreaking vision. This comic is, in many ways, Barker’s apology to fans for all the trash they had to endure over the years. Barker and Monfette weave magic through the pages together in order to explore Pinhead and the Cenobites in a completely new way, while Thompson’s art duties are to die for. Sure, there may be a realm that transcends the boundary between pain and pleasure, but this one is pure pleasure. With a new arc having just begun last month, things are just beginning. This is the kind of horror comic fans have been waiting a long time for. Read on for the skinny…

OMFG Of The Day: The Perfect Halloween Comic – Issue #6 Of ‘Hellraiser’ Is Almost Here!

It isn’t any secret that Clive Barker is single handedly one of the most talented names in all of horror. But 6 months ago when we (along with the rest of the horror community) began our coverage of the scribes’ return to the hell that he built thanks to BOOM! Studios, we were understandably a bit hesitant. However, any and all reservations we might have had as to whether or not “HELLRAISER” could possibly be resucitated in the comic medium are long since dead, and beyond the break you can check out a 6 page preview of this week’s newest ish in the monthly. COMICS TO FEAST ON: Week Of September 14th 2011

This week marks the second coming of DC’s New 52! Last week the anticipation finally ended and we can rest assured knowing that there are great comics coming out of the initially mixed-emotion reboot. Highlights from last week’s crop were Swamp Thing, Animal Man, Detective Comics, Action Comics, and Batwing. These bad boys are already selling out all over the world, even showing up on ebay going for more than a strand of Alex Trebek’s long lost moustache. It couldn’t be a better time to be a comic enthusiast.

Obviously there are loads of other comics coming out this week from other publishers, but in honor of such a milestone event, most of the books in this week’s COMICS TO FEAST ON are from DC’s New 52 lineup. Now I know you won’t be buying all 52 new series so let us know which books you can’t wait for!

With the ever-increasing number of books coming out between the tie-ins, the crossovers, and the new series, we’ve got to limit our list of comics for the week somehow. Rather than focus on every major comic hitting the shelves I’ll narrow it down to ten books that stand out from the rest. Whether you’ve been into comics since you were a young’un, or you’re new to the game, I’m here to help you decide which books to read. Read on for the skinny…

[Interview] Todd Farmer Talks ‘Halloween 3D’ And ‘Hellraiser’!

Todd Farmer (writer of Drive Angry 3D, My Bloody Valentine and Jason X) is definitely in demand these days as someone the studios seek out in the horror game when they need someone who knows their sh*t.

Recently Todd and his frequent collaborator Patrick Lussier (director of Drive Angry 3D and My Bloody Valentine) had been attached to both the upcoming Halloween 3D and the ‘Hellraiser’ reboot.

Word on both of those fronts has been a bit quiet as of late so now, in an exclusive interview, Bloody Disgusting’s own BC chats with Todd about the status of those films, the general state of 3D vs 2D, as well as a few other upcoming projects. As some things may have changed since you last checked in, you definitely don’t wanna miss it!!!
