Hulu’s Hellraiser has such sights to show you.

Director David Bruckner reteams with The Night House writers Ben Collins and Luke Piotrowski for a new, highly anticipated installment of Hellraiser, now streaming only on Hulu.

Ahead of the film’s release, Bloody Disgusting spoke with Jamie Clayton, the actress leading the new batch of Cenobites as The Priest.

When asked how the extensive prosthetic and makeup process altered or informed her performance, Clayton said, “Oh, in a very big way. One of our first Zooms that I had with David [Bruckner], he showed me the drawings by Keith [Thompson], and I was completely blown away. When he explained to me that it was all skin, I was completely floored. Then once I started going through the screen test process and having the makeup done and seeing the suit and the whole thing; I’m sure that the footage, we haven’t even talked about this, but the footage from the very first screen test in Serbia, I’m sure it’s wild. There’s so much of me just trying to breathe because it doesn’t expand because it’s so thick and tight, the silicone, the molded suit part of it. Then once the neck goes on, it’s very constricting.

“So, that first screen test that we did, I remember I was squirming so much and trying to breathe, and I was like, ‘I won’t be doing this on the dub.’ I was trying to get used to it. It was the neck. Once the neck went on, I was there.”

Slipping into the Hell Priest’s skin suit gave Clayton something tangible to work with, allowing her to embody the iconic character fully. But how did she evolve that character from the early script reading process through production?

Clayton explained, “I had an idea when I taped my audition of what I thought it would be, but working with David, I could not have asked for a better director. The reason I wanted to do this so desperately after doing the callback was because David was just so playful and gave nuanced, intelligent direction, and had a willingness to want to play with me as an actor. I knew that if I did get the chance to work with him, that the performance would be really enjoyable and something really fun for me because he had that willingness to direct and a passion for the material and the characters when we wanted to do something unique and not mimic anything that had been done before.

“Doug [Bradley’s] shoes are just way too big and bloody and gorgeous to try to fill. So, David and I worked together very closely, had a lot of conversations about what the Priest’s intentions were and what she was feeling and what she was thinking, and the sensuality and the anger and the disappointment and all of those things.“
