Warners Nabs Ryan Gosling’s ‘How To Catch a Monster’

Warner Bros. has scored the first major acquisition of the Cannes Film Festival. Deadline reports that the studio is closing a deal for U.S. rights to How To Catch A Monster, the film that is shooting now.

Ryan Gosling wrote it, produces and stars alongside Saoirse Ronan, Christina Hendricks, Eva Mendes, Matt Smith Ben Mendelsohn and Rob Zabrecky. The studio is paying a $3 million minimum guarantee for the film, a fantasy thriller in which a single mother is swept into a dark underworld, while her teenage son discovers a road that leads him to a secret underwater town. Marc Platt is the primary producer on the film.

The film is being financed and produced by Bold Films.

Saoirse Ronan Joins The Increasingly Bonkers Sounding ‘How To Catch A Monster’

Saoirse Ronan (Atonement, The Lovely Bones) is joining the cast of How to Catch a Monster. Christina Hendricks, Eva Mendes, Matt Smith, Rob Zabrecky and Ben Mendelsohn also star.

Directed by Ryan Gosling from his own script, “the story is set against the surreal dreamscape of a vanishing city and centered on a single mother of two being swept into a macabre and dark fantasy underworld while her teenage son discovers a secret road leading to an underwater town.” That’s quite an ambitious choice for a directorial debut!

No word on Ronan’s role yet. Shooting is scheduled to commence this May in Detroit, which seems fittingly apocalyptic.

Doctor Who To Learn ‘How To Catch A Monster’

In a post that confirms our exclusive report that Eva Mendes (Ghost Rider, 2 Fast 2 Furious) and Rob Zabrecky had been cast in Bold Films’ How to Catch a Monster, Variety is now reporting that Matt Smith (“Doctor Who”) has joined the film as well. Christina Hendricks and Ben Mendelsohn also star.

Bloody Disgusting received exclusive word that Eva Mendes (Ghost Rider, 2 Fast 2 Furious) and Rob Zabrecky have been cast in Bold Films’ How to Catch a Monster, which is to be directed by Ryan Gosling.

They join the previously announced Christina Hendricks and Ben Mendelsohn.

We’re told that Mendes will play “Cat,” a prominent figire of the Big Bad Wolf Club. Zabrecky is to play a cab driver.

Ben Mendelsohn (The Dark Knight Rises, Knowing, Killing Them Softly), pictured, has been cast in Drive star Ryan Gosling’s directorial debut How to Catch a Monster alongside Drive co-star Christina Hendricks, Bloody can report.

It was previously reported that Sierra/Affinity will handle international sales for the film. Marc Platt and Adam Siegel will produce on behalf of Marc Platt Prods., along with Gosling via his Phantasma Films banner, and Michel Litvak and David Lancaster via the Bold Films banner.

Principal photography is to begin next May in Detroit, Michigan.
