Maybe it’s because I’m watching it on a computer, but the action-packed first clip from Sony Screen Gems’ Resident Evil: Retribution 3D feels a bit flat. Maybe the addition of heavy sound design in a theater will give it some weight, but right now watching Alice battle it out feels a bit like watching a Resident Evil stage show at Universal Studios. It’s still pretty cool, and is obviously missing some sound cues.

Samuel Jackson Tortured In ‘Oldboy,’ While ‘Machete Kills Martial Arts Action Star

Marko Zaror (pictured below), an international martial arts action star, just finished filming Machete Kills, the sequel to Robert Rodriguez’s cult favorite Machete, Twitch was the first to learn. Zaror joins an all-star ensemble cast, including Lady Gaga, Charlie Sheen, Mel Gibson, Sofia Vergara, and Jessica Alba. Zaror, dubbed the Bruce Lee of Latin America, is cast as Zaror (which happens to be his real last name), henchman to Mel Gibson’s villainous character.

In other brief casting news, the LA Times reports that Samuel Jackson (above) and Bruce Hornsby have joined the cast of the English-language remake of Chan-wook Park’s cult favorite Oldboy. Jackson will play the man who is being tortured by the hero (Josh Brolin) in a key revenge scene. Fans of the original will remember the scene as perhaps the most visceral and disturbing of the film. Protagonist Dae-su Oh exacts vengeance on a man who once guarded him by extracting his teeth one-by-one with the claw end of a hammer. The new film, which begins shooting this fall in Louisiana and New York, won’t go with the tooth removal, instead inflicting a different kind of torture, says the mag.

The duo star alongside Josh Brolin, Elizabeth Olsen, Sharlto Copley in the Spike Lee-directed thriller. In the 2003 Korean original, a man gets kidnapped and held in a shabby cell for 15 years without explanation. Suddenly, he’s released and given money, a cell phone and clothes and is set on a path to discover who destroyed his life so he can take revenge. READ MORE

The international website for Sony Screen Gems’ Resident Evil: Retribution 3D has unveiled four new images of stars Ada Wong, Carlos, Rain and Jill Valentine in the Paul W.S. Anderson-directed sequel in theaters September 14. The images prove one important factor (that we already knew): you need a gun if you want to star in the movie.

Milla Jovovich, Sienna Guillory, Colin Salmon, Shawn Roberts, Boris Kodjoe, Michelle Rodriguez, Johann Urb, Oded Fehr, Kevin Durand and Li Bingbing all star in the 3-D sequel.

It’s been confirmed this evening that Vanessa Hudgens (pictured; Sucker Punch) is on set filming for Robert Rodriguez’ Machete Kills, which also stars Danny Trejo, Michelle Rodriguez, Mel Gibson, Jessica Alba, Demian Bichir, Amber Heard, Sofia Vergara, Zoe Saldana, Edward James Olmos, Charlie Sheen, Elise Avellan, Electra Avellan, William Sadler, Lady Gaga and Alexa Vega (wewwww). “The sequel finds the titular ex-federale (Trejo) recruited by the U.S. government to stop a terrorist named Mendez the Madman, who happens to be Mexico’s leading cartel dealer.”

Brendan Fraser will star in writer-director Damian Lee’s action-thriller Split Decision for Rollercoaster Entertainment and Vortex Words + Pictures, says THR. Fraser plays a father who must defend his two children from a pair of murderers. “The plot kicks off when two children (Holly Deveaux and Christian Martin) witness a murder while on a wilderness camping trip with a family friend (Daniel Kash). When two criminal brothers, (Dominic Purcell and Ethan Suplee) start to hunt down the children to silence them, Fraser’s father-figure sets out to rescue them.” Amy Price-Francis appears as the children’s mother. Principal photography begins shortly on location in Ontario.

The site also reports that Kevin Zegers has signed on to join Harald Zwart’s fantasy epic The Mortal Instruments: City of Bones for Constantin Film and Screen Gems. Zegers will play Alec Lightwood, a reluctant Shadowhunter who would rather read about demons than fight them. Lily Collins stars in the film, based on Cassandra Clare’s mega-bestseller. Zegers joins a cast that also includes Jamie Campbell Bower, Lena Headey and Jared Harris. “Set in modern-day New York, the plot centers on Clary Fray (Collins), who discovers she is the descendant of a line of Shadowhunters, a secret tribe of young half-angel warriors locked in an ancient battle to protect the world from demons.” Mortal Instruments is scheduled to begin shooting this month in Toronto.

After directing the acclaimed documentaries Deliver Us From Evil and West of Memphis, Amy Berg is set to make her narrative helming debut with Every Secret Thing, a feature adaptation of Laura Lippman’s 2004 mystery novel that will star Diane Lane, reports Variety. Nicole Holofcener wrote the script that “Follows two 11-year-old girls who are convicted of murdering a baby and incarcerated until they turn 18. Upon their release, children start to go missing; as the police turn their attention to the duo, the mystery surrounding the original murder takes the fore.” Lane is attached to play one of the girls’ mother, who has long known that her daughter is a gifted liar.

One of the things I’m most looking forward to about Robert Rodriguez’ now-filming Machete Kills is William Sadler. The guy is great and I’m more than sure he can hold his own onscreen as Sheriff Doakes against Lady Gaga, Alexa Vega, Danny Trejo, Michelle Rodriguez, Mel Gibson, Jessica Alba, Demian Bichir, Amber Heard, Sofia Vergara, Zoe Saldana, William Sadler, Edward James Olmos, Charlie Sheen, Elise Avellan and Electra Avellan. And this poster JoBlo got their hands on proves it!

The sequel finds the titular ex-federale (Trejo) recruited by the U.S. government to stop a terrorist named Mendez the Madman, who happens to be Mexico’s leading cartel dealer. Sony Screen Gems took to the San Diego Comic-Con to promote a heft of titles arriving this year, one being the latest installment of the Resident Evil franchise, Resident Evil: Retribution 3D, which brings Paul W.S. Anderson back behind the camera for the 3-D sequel.

Bloody’s Evan Dickson was on hand at the panel (where one fan asked Michelle Rodriguez if she’d have sex with him) and afterwards had the pleasure of speaking with franchise star Milla Jovovich, who returns as the ass-kicking Alice.

I’ve sort of lost track of what marketing materials have been released for Sony Screen Gems’ forthcoming Resident Evil: Retribution, which is directed once again by Paul W.S. Anderson. I’m pretty sure we haven’t seen the newly released one-sheet featuring Alice (Milla Jovovich) going global.The image is similar to the previously released banner, but this guy looks like an “official” poster. In addition, we dropped in another ice-cold banner that exclaims “Alice in Wasteland.” We’ve also updated this piece with a hi-res look at Alice kickin’ zombie arse! Awesome stuff!

It’s not in theaters until September 14th, but with all the Resident Evil: Retribution images hitting today you’d think the film was coming out tomorrow. Now we have seven new pics from the film, including what I think is the first look at Kevin Durand’s character. It also has some more zombie killing action from that bright white hallway we’ve been seeing (which actually looks pretty cool). They come courtesy of Kinopoisk.

While I wish Sony Screen Gems would just reboot the francise without Paul W.S. Anderson (and stick it in the elusive mansion where the franchise belongs), it’s hard to be disappointed with new imagery featuring the ultra-sexy Milla Jovovich as Alice, who returns once again in Resident Evil: Retribution on September 14.

In the new image we see Alice taking aim (again). We’re still waiting on a hi-res version of Alice kicking a zombie in the face so you can quickly make it your background.

The cast for Robert Rodriguez’ now-filming Machete Kills continues to bulge as we’re told that the great William Sadler joins Danny Trejo, Michelle Rodriguez, Mel Gibson, Jessica Alba, Demian Bichir, Amber Heard, Sofia Vergara, Zoe Saldana, Edward James Olmos, Charlie Sheen, Elise Avellan and Electra Avellan. Sadler is best known to horror fas for his role in the 1995 Tales From the Crypt Presents: Demon Knight. He’s also starred in Die Hard 2, Shawshank Redemption and many more.

The first film was based on Rodriguez’ faux trailer included in Dimension Films’ 2007 Grindhouse.

Wow. Half of me feels like this is a crass, TMZ style approach to casting – and the other half of me can’t wait to see this movie (even though I didn’t like the first one). Charlie Sheen (Wall Street, Platoon “Two And A Half Men”) has been cast as the U.S. President in Machete Kills, the sequel to Robert Rodriguez’ Machete. Earlier today he admitted that his meltdown last year was brought on by a psychotic break, so you have to wonder if him diving into this role along with his new series “Anger Management” is a good idea for him personally. Either way, between him and Mel Gibson Machete Kills is certainly making some brave casting choices.

Rodriguez took to his Twitter account just moments ago saying, “I just cast Charlie Sheen in ‪#machetekills‬ as the President of the United States! Who better? More soon…”

Just last week we dropped 42 poster comps for Screen Gems’ forthcoming Resident Evil: Retribution, which is directed once again by Paul W.S. Anderson. While the studio asked us to remove the leaked art, one was used for the international release and features the beautiful backend of Alice (Milla Jovovich). Global indeed. BD reader “Lucksaw” pointed us to the IMDB where a user dropped 42 poster comps for Screen Gems’ forthcoming Resident Evil: Retribution. It should be noted that none of these are “official”, and most will never be used, but it appears that what you’re about to look at are the designers’ various takes on the forthcoming sequel directed by Paul W.S. Anderson.
