Interview with ‘Drive Angry’ Director Patrick Lussier, Write Your Own Review!

Now in theaters everywhere, Patrick Lussier’s Drive Angry 3D (review) is the anticipated follow-up to the director’s previous horror hit, My Bloody Valentine 3D, which grossed over $100 million worldwide back in 2009.

The difference this time around is that the film is an original creation as opposed to a remake (thank you!), featuring heavy-hitting actor Nicolas Cage in the title role of a man who escapes from Hell to avenge the murder of his daughter and kidnapping of his grandchild by a Satanic cult.

B-D reporter Chris Eggertsen recently chatted it up with Lussier, quickly picking up steam as one of the foremost faces in horror in the 21st century, to talk about working with Cage and the rest of the cast, what old films he and co-writer Todd Farmer were influenced by during the writing process, and whether he’d be open to doing a sequel.

See inside for the full interview and don’t forget it’s now time for you to write your own review to tell all of BD what YOU thought!

Video: Cage, Heard, and Burke Talk ‘Drive Angry’

Hitting theaters today is Drive Angry 3D, a supernaturally tinged revenge tale that’s loaded with action and humor. The great William Fichtner shines as “The Accountant”, a profane (and hilarious) bounty hunter of sorts who is tasked with finding Milton (Nicolas Cage) and bringing him back to where he’s from (which is a surprise in the movie, though the trailer gives it away). Helping Milton is B-D fave Amber Heard, who steals the movie away from her co-stars with her crazy stunts and attitude. In short, it’s a ton of fun (did I mention Tom Atkins plays a small role as a machine-gunning sheriff?), and even though its horror elements are a bit light, it’s definitely worth checking out, and another success for Patrick Lussier and Todd Farmer, the director/writer team behind the smash My Bloody Valentine 3D. To whet your appetite, check below for a pair of exclusive interviews with Cage, Heard, and Billy Burke, who plays the film’s main villain: Jonah King, a colorful cross between Charles Manson and Jim Morrison.

Nicolas Cage Talks “Wild” Filming Techniques for ‘Ghost Rider’ Sequel

While Mark Neveldine and Brian Taylor’s Gamer was a horrible film, it was hard to ignore the “interesting” filming techniques from the directors of Crank. UKPA caught up with star Nicolas Cage on his Season of the Witch promotion tour where he talked a bit about working with the duo on the now-filming Ghost Rider: Spirit of Vengeance 3D. Cage explains that Neveldine and Taylor will continue using their “wild” techniques: “The director’s on rollerblades and hanging from wires with the camera, holding on to the motorcycle and it’s going to be really wild.” The star also promised the sequel, Ghost Rider: Spirit Of Vengeance, would be quite different from the first film. “(It’s going to be) very different. A completely new experience and that’s how the directors choose to see it. I mean there’s even a new origin sequence.” We’ll see just how different it is on February 17, 2012.

Feature: ‘Season of the Witch’ and The Black Plague

The “Black Plague” took an estimated one hundred millions lives within several outbreaks that occurred over three hundred years – the deadliest of which was in the late 1300′s. It was one of the worst pandemics in human history, and wiped out Europe so bad, that their population didn’t recover until the 1800′s. History has it that the bubonic plague, borne from Chinese fleas that fed on rats that carried the disease, was the cause of this widespread Hell – carried into Europe via merchants along the silk trade routes. Season of the Witch begs the question – could this morose lesion in time have actually been borne from a source much more evil? John Marrone explores this question in the following special feature. Season of the Witch arrive in theaters January 7.
