Prog-metal giants Dream Theater have personally invited prog/djent metal band Periphery to open up for them on two dates: Oct. 15th in Albany, NY and Oct. 16th in Philadelphia, PA. Dream Theater will be touring in support of their upcoming album, A Dramatic Turn Of Events.
Periphery guitarist Misha Mansoor states: “To say that the chance for PERIPHERY to open for Dream Theater is a dream come true would be a gross understatement. Dream Theater has been one of my favorite bands for about as long as I can remember. I started taking guitar seriously and bought my first 7 string because of John Petrucci. If it weren’t for Dream Theater, PERIPHERY simply would not exist. I can’t express in words just how excited we are for the opportunity to share the stage with them.”
Progressive/djent metal band Periphery will be hitting the road for their first North American headlining tour, entitled Frak The Gods! On the bill will be The Human Abstract, Textures, and The Contortionist. This will be the first time that Textures will tour the US, so make sure to catch them and give them a warm Uncle Sam reception!

A lot of times these YouTube mash-ups are complete failures. But sometimes they are just incredible. Below is an example of how two completely different styles can work together with the right touch. My only complaint is that Katy Perry’s vocals are way too loud in the mix, overpowering Periphery. Otherwise, it’s something I would definitely rock on my iPod.
With the recent release of Nola sludge legends Crowbar’s much anticipated new album, Sever The Wicked Hand, I started to think about what other huge albums 2011 has to offer the metalheads among us. With new albums from genre heavyweights like Atheist, Fear Factory, and Agalloch turning last year into a seriously stellar year for metal, 2010 is going to be hard to top, but here are 10 (+2) albums that I think will give 2011 more than just a fighting chance. Bloody-Disgusting has an exclusive audio interview with Misha Mansoor, guitarist/programmer/producer of progressive metal/djent band Periphery. We chat about the upcoming tours with TesseracT and Monuments (The League Of Extraordinary Djentlemen Tour), and Fair To Midland with Scale The Summit, what the next Periphery release is going to be like and we even manage to sneak some possible exclusives out of Misha. What are they you might ask? Well, I guess you’ll just have to listen to the interview after the jump!
Progressive/djent metal band Periphery will be touring the US this March with Fair To Midland and Scale The Summit. I personally am really excited for this tour and will definitely be at the Flint, Michigan show. Their self-titled album from last year is an incredible album and is worth every penny, so go and buy it! Also, keep an eye out for an upcoming exclusive interview with guitarist Misha Mansoor in the near future.
Check after the jump for the full touring schedule.
Bloody-Disgusting has scored some exclusive before and after shots of TesseracT’s upcoming music video ‘Nascent’. The song comes from their upcoming album, ‘One’, which hits stores March 22nd. Also after the jump are some quotes from singer Daniel Tompkins and bassist Amos Williams. I’m personally loving the look and those weird octopus brain things are kinda badass. Check ‘em out after the jump!
Periphery has announced a contest for all you audio techs and DJ’s out there: Remix their song ‘Icarus Lives’ and it might just appear on their upcoming EP, Icarus Lives!, which is scheduled to be released in early 2011. Here is what guitarist Misha Mansoor has said about this contest: ”Hey guys, since all of us in PERIPHERY are such huge electronic music fans, we came up with a fun idea. We want to do a remix contest for our song ‘Icarus Lives!’ just to see what all you talented folk out there could do with it. We will give you just the vocals and let you go to town on it, be it a trance, house, dubstep, electronica, glitch, drum & bass or whatever your flavor is remix. Make it as crazy or as true to the original as you want, or anything in between, we want to hear what you guys can do, but originality and creativity are always well appreciated. The best part is that the winner’s song will be on our upcoming EP that is due early next year. Have at it.”
Periphery will be hitting the road for a rather sizable tour with Veil of Maya and Darkest Hour later this month and stretching well into December (tour dates after the jump). They also announced that they are working on a follow-up to their self-titled debut album, which was released earlier this year. Guitarist Misha Mansoor checked in with some thoughts:
“Hey everyone, it’s been an amazing whirlwind of a year for PERIPHERY and there are no signs of slowing down anytime soon. We are currently preparing for a long tour with Darkest Hour, Veil of Maya and Revocation, which is going to be a blast and we can’t wait to get back out there to play for everyone. Also, we encourage everyone to come and meet us at our merch booth after each and every show to come and hang with us. We love hearing feedback from our fans and getting a chance to meet new people.
“We also will have a fresh new, longer setlist with a BRAND SPANKIN’ NEW SONG and a few fun surprises just for this tour. We are also giving lessons on our respective instruments (a lot of days are already booked!), so please come out early to see us and jam with us. Contact us on myspace or facebook if you are interested in lessons.
The perpetually-hilarious members of Evergreen Terrace recently returned from touring in Australia with Casey Jones on the “Cheer Up Emu Kid” tour. In what has become an Evergreen Terrace tradition, a side-splitting tour wrap up video has been posted that highlights some of the more ridiculous moments of the tour. Among other things, they eat Kangaroo shit, almost get murdered and get their hands on some Horny Goat Weed – all that and more can be seen now on MetalBlade.tv HERE.
Evergreen Terrace played SXSW in Austin, TX earlier this year and guitarist Josh James hosted a segment for Metal Blade TV that showcased a phenomenon unique to metal and hardcore: moshing. In this video, Josh James interviews and does play-by-play for some moshers and Dennis from Alesana unveils his new mosh move, “The Care Bear”. Check it out HERE!
