Universal Crash Lands on ‘Asteroids’ Idea

Universal Crash Lands on Asteroids Idea

I still don’t understand studios remaking movies that nobody has ever heard of, nor do I get adapting games with a vague (or no) plot. Such the case with Asteroids, which is to be a feature film version of the classic Atari videogame. Is there a reason it needs to be connected to the 1979 8-bit game? (See the above image; apparently that translates into a movie…) From my perspective, it’s just a transparent lame plot to cash in on the game’s popularity…

Universal is heading down that path with Asteroids and has tapped Evan Spiliotopoulos (Snow White and the Huntsman) to give story to the simple game. The plotline for the film adaptation has evolved into the story of two estranged brothers that must team up to save Earth from an alien race. Matt Lopez (The Sorcerer’s Apprentice) originally worked on the script.

I still think if they’re going to waste time on this, they may as well deal with real alien sh*t (literally) and remake the 1990 Spaced Invaders. READ MORE

What’s Better Than A Movie Title Generator? A Video Game One, That’s What

A week ago I was introduced to the Horror film title generator, and since then my mind’s been aflutter with the great movie titles you all sent in, titles worthy of Oscars, or at the very least Spike’s Scream Awards. But now I dare say I have something better, something geeky and video game related, and something that promises to take up even more of my time. Let me introduce you to… drumroll please… Call of Duty: Burrito Warfare.

BewareTheBurrito Whats Better Than A Movie Title Generator? A Video Game One, Thats What

Sadly, Call of Duty isn’t actually diving into food warfare, Burrito Warfare was just the first title the new Video Game Title Generator threw at me (followed by Premium Chimp Hysteria). So I’m going to ask more from you than I ever have, or at least more from you than I have for a week. I want you to trot on over to the game title generator, click that little create button, and return to me with the results. And again, the prize is my undying love and affection, only this time I’ll also blow you a little kiss. I’m feeling generous. READ MORE

Universal Reloads BFG for ‘Doom’ Reboot

Video game adaptations are still hot as ever, so why wouldn’t a studio revisit their archives for a potential reboot?

Our friends at What’s Playing are reporting that Universal Pictures is out to writers to pen Doom, a 3-D redo of the 2005 adaptation that starred Dwayne “The Rock” Johnson as a Space Marine sent to investigate strange events at a research facility on a distant planet but find themselves at the mercy of genetically enhanced killing machines.

The site adds that Universal has always been keen on doing another Doom movie sometime, and that the success of Paramount’s G.I Joe : Rise of Cobra piqued their interest even more.

Think they can get it right this time?

17 Horror Games That Need to See the Light of Day

The video games industry is an unforgiving world where highly anticipated games can be canceled without warning, or even worse, they can be thrown into the dread video game limbo. The fate of those who find themselves in the latter category rarely survive, instead fans are strung along for years with the promise of a release until the game meets its inevitable fate.

MIAbanner 17 Horror Games That Need to See the Light of Day

Unfortunately, Development Hell strikes horror games just as often, if not more so, than other genres. The most likely cause of this is how shaky the genre is, where long in development titles like Alan Wake get great reviews and tons of hype before falling short in the sales department.
