I still don’t understand studios remaking movies that nobody has ever heard of, nor do I get adapting games with a vague (or no) plot. Such the case with Asteroids, which is to be a feature film version of the classic Atari videogame. Is there a reason it needs to be connected to the 1979 8-bit game? (See the above image; apparently that translates into a movie…) From my perspective, it’s just a
transparent lame plot to cash in on the game’s popularity…
Universal is heading down that path with Asteroids and has tapped Evan Spiliotopoulos (Snow White and the Huntsman) to give story to the simple game. The plotline for the film adaptation has evolved into the story of two estranged brothers that must team up to save Earth from an alien race. Matt Lopez (The Sorcerer’s Apprentice) originally worked on the script.
I still think if they’re going to waste time on this, they may as well deal with real alien sh*t (literally) and remake the 1990 Spaced Invaders. READ MORE
It’s going to be a wild ride following the filming of Paul W.S. Anderson’s Resident Evil: Retribution 3D as franchise star Milla Jovovich continues to tweet from behind-the-scenes. Just the other day Jovovich, who plays “Alice” once again, posted a photo of her character all bloodied up, alongside a first look at Li Bingbing in her “Ada Wong” costume.
Aiming for a September 14, 2012 release through Sony Screen Gems, Sienna Guillory, Colin Salmon, Shawn Roberts, Boris Kodjoe, Michelle Rodriguez, Johann Urb, Oded Fehr and Kevin Durand also star.
Urb plays the leader of the Resistance, who teams with Jovovich’s Alice character as she battles the Umbrella Corporation and the swarm of undead. READ MORE

A week ago I was introduced to the Horror film title generator, and since then my mind’s been aflutter with the great movie titles you all sent in, titles worthy of Oscars, or at the very least Spike’s Scream Awards. But now I dare say I have something better, something geeky and video game related, and something that promises to take up even more of my time. Let me introduce you to… drumroll please… Call of Duty: Burrito Warfare.
Sadly, Call of Duty isn’t actually diving into food warfare, Burrito Warfare was just the first title the new Video Game Title Generator threw at me (followed by Premium Chimp Hysteria). So I’m going to ask more from you than I ever have, or at least more from you than I have for a week. I want you to trot on over to the game title generator, click that little create button, and return to me with the results. And again, the prize is my undying love and affection, only this time I’ll also blow you a little kiss. I’m feeling generous. READ MORE
Konami has released a trailer for their upcoming video game NeverDead that features a new song from metal band Megadeth, entitled, yup, you guessed it, Never Dead. The game apparently revolves around an immortal protagonist that, while unable to die, can be dismembered completely, causing the player to roll the hero’s head around picking up the severed limbs. It is slated for release later this year. Check out the trailer with the new Megadeth song after the jump.
Jace Hall happens to be a fan of Mortal Kombat. Don’t believe me? Well that’s just rude. But moving along, you can check out the rap video after the jump, along with all the lyrics. Also, if you like the track, why not snag a free mp3 download of it? Jace Hall would approve.
Video game adaptations are still hot as ever, so why wouldn’t a studio revisit their archives for a potential reboot?
Our friends at What’s Playing are reporting that Universal Pictures is out to writers to pen Doom, a 3-D redo of the 2005 adaptation that starred Dwayne “The Rock” Johnson as a Space Marine sent to investigate strange events at a research facility on a distant planet but find themselves at the mercy of genetically enhanced killing machines.
The site adds that Universal has always been keen on doing another Doom movie sometime, and that the success of Paramount’s G.I Joe : Rise of Cobra piqued their interest even more.
Think they can get it right this time?
Hey you, 2010′s over and you know what that means, right? It’s that time of the year again where we enjoy a long sigh of relief knowing all the holiday shenanigans are finally over. It’s 2011 and I suggest we enjoy the crap out of it because if the Mayans have their way we’ll all be meeting in person whatever dear and fluffy Lord, Deities, or Flying Spaghetti Monster you believe in come 2012. I’m sure by now you’ve grown tired of whatever goods you received over the holidays. I mean, who actually appreciates new things for more than a week? No one, that’s who. So that’s where I come in, to add a ray of Adam flavored video game sunshine so you can really start the new year off right. And as an added bonus I have way more vitamins than V8 plus you don’t have to worry about whether or not you should recycle me when you’re through.
2010 was pretty great but it could’ve been way better. I mean, come on, last year I asked Santa for news on a slew of missing games like Condemned 3, Dead Island, Doom 4 and Possession but you know what? That old fat bastard didn’t come through. Since this isn’t a place to bitch and moan, though I’m sure most of you are fairly used to me doing just that on more than a few occasions. So let’s take a gander at the bounty of awesome last year brought us so I can force my choices for best horror games of the year on you, and you will like it. READ MORE
Try and say that five times fast, spectacular Splatterhouse schwag, spectacular Splatiwejfwfiefhwei. I think I just had an aneurism. Well, before I go to the doctor to see what I just did to break my feeble geeky brain, I’m here to give away some spectac, err, fantastic Splatterhouse schwag. Come one, come all! I have t-shirts, shoes, PS3 and Xbox 360 copies of the game and, get this, foldable speakers. You want to know what they do? They fold. It’s a crazy world we live in, right? Back in my day we had to walk fifteen miles uphill in the freezing snow just for a muffin. But damn, those muffins were delicious.
Before you do whatever I ask of you to earn some of this superb schwag you should know we give you free things because we want you to be ours forever. So in a way, accepting gifts from us is essentially the same thing as strapping on a tight leather suit and maybe even a snazzy red ball gag and letting us make you our love slave. So as long as you’re alright with that, why don’t you throw on your gear and come on a little adventure with me? I promise to make it worth your while. READ MORE
The video games industry is an unforgiving world where highly anticipated games can be canceled without warning, or even worse, they can be thrown into the dread video game limbo. The fate of those who find themselves in the latter category rarely survive, instead fans are strung along for years with the promise of a release until the game meets its inevitable fate.
Unfortunately, Development Hell strikes horror games just as often, if not more so, than other genres. The most likely cause of this is how shaky the genre is, where long in development titles like Alan Wake get great reviews and tons of hype before falling short in the sales department. Then there are titles like Resident Evil that breaks all expectations, and surprise hits like BioShock. So if there’s a game you’ve been looking forward to for some time, read on to see the fifteen horror titles we’re foaming at the mouth to get our hands on. READ MORE
Here are 2 more trailers for The Secret World, these a bit more pretty than the one I posted a couple days ago. Check out the 2nd beyond the break, and all game info etc from the post a couple days ago.
Dead Pixels Editor and all around rad dude, Burnthebluesky, just sent me the last motion comic for Wolfenstein. The game came out last week and it seems to be pretty decent. Motion comics are becoming pretty popular…watch the video below and learn why.
Recently the video game Infamous was released. Infamous tells the story of Cole McGrath, a survivor of a bomb blast but then finds out he has come out of it with electrical powers. Now does Cole use his powers and save his friends/city or does he just destroy it all? The free comic that is available online tells the prequel to the story and fills in some of the cracks the game had. Who doesn’t like free?!?
The first issue of the new Resident Evil series of comics came out weeks ago, I tried to get it then but the comic book store were already sold out. I was pretty shocked at that since I came really early on a Wednesday, so I had to patiently wait and special order it. My copy finally came in last week and I dove right in and the results were…well…interesting. My full review after the break.
This week Wildstorm Comics released a comic adaptation of the upcoming videogame, Prototype. In the video game you play a guy named Alex who wakes up in a morgue with amensia and a bevvy of super powers and has to figure out everything out. The plot in the game is definitely not it’s strong suit but even that weak plot is ‘Godfather’ quality compared to the comic. Full review after the break…
So the time is almost over, Resident Evil 5 is days away from being released. I could not think a better way to count down those days by getting issue one of the new Resident Evil comic. The comic bridges the story of Chris Redfield to the new game, you can find out who the BSAA are, and why they are in Africa. I’m picking this one up tomorrow and I suggest you do the same. More info after the break…
