NECA Bringing ‘Ninja Turtles’ Inspired Xenomorph Toy to SDCC 2017

Published

on

NECA has become known for putting fun horror toys exclusively up for grabs at the annual San Diego Comic-Con, and we already know that this year is going to be no exception. Over the weekend, the toy company unveiled their upcoming “Sewer Mutation Warrior Alien” toy, which is sure to look familiar to Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles fans!

The toy, an orange-colored Xenomorph, is based on the “Pizza Monsters” from the 1987 animated series. The Pizza Monsters appeared in the episode ‘The Case of the Killer Pizzas,’ and they were quite clearly inspired by the Xenomorph design from the Alien movies. Having both licenses in their arsenal, NECA took it upon themselves to whip up this outside-the-box Alien toy!

Only 3,000 will be made.

Deep in space, something is happening at a remote Weyland-Yutani scientific outpost! The terrible coincidence of a power outage and a deep space radiation has created a new Xenomorph… one that’s right at home in the pipes and tubes of the station’s sub-levels. The Sewer Mutation Warrior Alien stands over 9″ tall and features over 30 points of articulation and a bendable tail.

This figure will be available to Alien Club members and at NECA’s SDCC booth. It will NOT be available during the online presale that starts on 6/20.

Writer in the horror community since 2008. Editor in Chief of Bloody Disgusting. Owns Eli Roth's prop corpse from Piranha 3D. Has two awesome cats. Still plays with toys.

Legendary Grimdark ‘Warhammer 40,000’ Artist John Blanche Has Passed Away at 78

In the grim darkness of the far future there is only war, but it was a cheerful illustrator from England who helped to define the terrifying war-torn imagery that inspired what we now know as Grimdark (a hybrid genre combining horror with sci-fi/fantasy).

Unfortunately for fans of Warhammer 40,000, Trench Crusade and countless other sources of Grimdark thrills, veteran artist John Blanche passed away this week after struggling with health issues for the past few years.

While the artist retired back in 2023, he leaves us with an enormous legacy of iconic artwork that continues to inspire gamers and storytellers around the world to this very day.

The news is especially gloomy as it was only last year that Daniel Lowman and Napoleon Dynamite himself Jon Heder released The Grim & the Dark: The Search for John Blanche, a documentary following Heder’s exploration of the Grimdark genre culminating in a heartwarming encounter with Blanche in his own home.

Below is one of my favorite pieces by Blanche, his highly influential depiction of Warhammer 40k’s God-Emperor of Mankind on his Golden Throne.

We send our deepest condolences to John Blanche’s family, friends, and fans.
