Trailer Edit Turns ‘The Shining’ into… a Sam Raimi Film?!

Because why the hell not, right?

The 1980s kicked off with a bang thanks to, to name just two films, Stanley Kubrick’s The Shining (1980) and Sam Raimi’s The Evil Dead (1981). One film proved that one of the most respected filmmakers in Hollywood could do horror as well as he could do everything else, while the other brought a fresh new voice onto the scene.

But what if Sam Raimi had directed The Shining? Okay, so it’s probably a question you’ve never actually asked yourself. Because why would you? But one fan, for whatever reason, did just ask himself that question.

Likely after noting some similarities between The Shining and The Evil Dead, YouTuber Niklas Kelliher cut together a fan trailer for Sam Raimi’s The Shining, using clips from Kubrick’s film and both the audio and frenetic sensibilities of the Evil Dead 2 trailer.

Of course, none of the iconic images from The Shining would exist as we know them without Kubrick bringing them to the screen, but it’s a fun take on the trailer for The Shining that puts a bit of a different spin on the 1980 masterpiece.

Check it out below. And be sure to watch until the very end.

    It bloody looks awesome!

  • Jada Maes

That was… Remarkably scarier than the actual movie.

The Shining is much creepier than schlocky (but still insanely cool) Evil Dead.

You can have it. It just makes me think of The Shinning: “NO TV AND NO BEER MAKE HOMER SOMETHING, SOMETHING.”

          Go crazy?

      damn kids

Haha. I would have been so disappointed by The Shining if that had been the actual trailer.

  • Necro

So weird how that actually seems to fit!

Two of my favorite film makers: Rami and Kubrick. Kubrick is the king of building up tension, mood and atmosphere. The music in some of the scenes in Full Metal Jacket are creepy as fuck. Great stuff! The Shining will always be one of my favorite Kubrick films.

    I love it!
