Tripwire Interactive Releases Free “Rearmament” Content Update for ‘Killing Floor 3’ [Trailer]
Tripwire Interactive has kicked off the first of many post-launch content updates for Killing Floor 3 with “Rearmament”, which is available for free on all platforms. The update introduces three new weapons based on real-world guns, new weapon mods, the decoupling of specialists and perks, Zed bumping, a wide range of ongoing bugfixes and over 100 individual performance optimizations.
The Rearmament update paves the way for Season 2 for Killing Floor 3, which launches later this year.
One of the most requested updates from the community is addressed as players can now freely choose to play any specialist as any perk they choose. This required additional development and animation resources to support the change and ensure a consistent experience, but now specialists like Mr. Foster can gun down Zeds as a Commando, slice them to bits as a Ninja, or be the lifeblood of the team as a Medic. All future specialists and perks will support this freedom of choice moving forward, starting with DJ Scully in Season 2 and the Gunslinger perk in 2026.
Rearmament also adds the first post-launch weapons and weapon mods. The trio of new weapons are based on real-world guns, and each comes with multiple new weapon mods that can be used across other weapons of the same type.
- M14 EBR (Enhanced Battle Rifle) – A powerful semi-automatic rifle rewarding precision by tearing through flesh.
- Ammunition: Match Grade
- Barrel: Fast-Attach Suppressor
- Receiver: Full-Auto Receiver
- MKR-350 Assault Rifle – A tried-and-true design that continues to prove deadly in the hands of a skilled operator.
- Ammunition: Polymer Tip
- Magazine: Dual Mag
- Sight: Green Dot
- Streik Dual Defender Shotgun – Two barrels of pure death makes just about anything in front of this weapon turn into mist.
- Barrel: Extended Barrel
- Barrel: Quad-Barrel
In addition to the new armaments, the team has also gone through and made adjustments to almost every weapon in the game. The vast majority of these changes see buffs to weapons to make them more competitive choices with only a few select nerfs to weapons currently overperforming. Weapon mods have seen a reduced dosh price when equipped across the board, allowing for more flexibility in loadouts and earlier acquisition of modded weapons during matches.
Zeds and bosses have also undergone adjustments to make dodging their attacks more consistent and lowered the damage of specific boss attacks to reduce the chance of instant death from pairs of quick attacks. The update also introduces a new mechanic to the game, Zed Bump Physics. Players falling onto or sliding into Zeds not currently attacking someone can stumble, knock down, or even destroy them, adding a new level of “physicality” to the game and opening up new playstyles.
If all that’s not enough, Tripwire has announced that Killing Floor 3 will be featured in all Halloween-themed sales on all platforms with a generous 20% discount.
Killing Floor 3 is available on PC via Steam and Epic Games Store, the PlayStation 5 and the Xbox Series.

Immerse Yourself in Mystery with Narrative-Driven Folk Horror Title ‘The Polar Darkness’ [Trailer]
Independent developer Horsefly Games has announced their own brand of folk horror with The Polar Darkness, a narrative-driven mystery inspired by Finnish folklore, classic investigative adventures, and cosmic horror. Accompanying the announcement is the first trailer, which offers the first look at the game’s visual style, mystery-driven gameplay, and isolated northern Finnish setting.
Coming to Steam next year, the game is set during the polar night (Kaamos) of 1980s northern Finland. Players take on the role of journalist Emma Järvelä as she travels to the isolated village of Sysiluoma to investigate a controversial revival movement led by a charismatic cult leader and her child preacher. When the child mysteriously disappears during a sermon, and a blizzard cuts off all contact with the outside world, Emma becomes trapped in a community where every resident seems to be hiding a different version of the truth.
The Polar Darkness emphasizes investigation, dialogue, observation, and deduction. Players will question villagers, gather clues, solve environmental puzzles, and piece together a mystery rooted in local history, folklore, and something ancient buried somewhere deep.
“Classic mystery adventures such as Gabriel Knight were a major inspiration,” said Juho Kuorikoski, creator of The Polar Darkness. “I wanted to create a story that captures that sense of investigation, folklore, and slow-burning dread, but through a distinctly Finnish lens.”
The story unfolds across three days using a time-based structure mechanic. Complete tasks and objectives to advance the game’s internal clock. Characters move and events change as time passes, and choices determine what you see and what you miss. Each playthrough reveals a different perspective on the truth.
The game features a distinct visual presentation that combines photographic 2D characters based on real actors to atmospheric 3D environments. Complementing the visuals is a soundtrack heavily inspired by Finnish folk music, composed and performed by Finnish folk artists.
