Joe Bob Goes to the Drive-In, an updated and expanded hardcover edition of the long out-of-print collection written by cult film host and author Joe Bob Briggs, was released last year, and Fangoria has announced that a new audiobook version is on the way.
Even better is that Briggs will narrate the book, and preorders are available as of today on the horror host’s website, JoeBobBriggs.com.
The digital delivery date is set for December 15, 2026.
Originally published in 1987, Joe Bob Goes to the Drive-In features Briggs’ first columns for The Dallas Times Herald, essays on beloved horror classics like Basket Case, The Texas Chain Saw Massacre, and The Evil Dead, his famous B-movie reviews, fan letters and replies, and Briggs’ adventures as the world’s foremost expert on drive-ins.
Joe Bob Briggs is an American syndicated film critic, writer, actor, comic performer, and horror host. He is known for having hosted Joe Bob’s Drive-in Theater on The Movie Channel from 1986 to 1996, the TNT series MonsterVision from 1996 to 2000, and The Last Drive-in with Joe Bob Briggs on Shudder beginning in 2018.
“People have been asking me to read my own book for decades, mainly because many of them can’t read. Now you can hear every high-body-count review, every drive-in total, and every crazy fan letter exactly the way it was meant to be experienced,” Briggs told Fangoria.
Also on the way this December from Joe Bob Briggs? Dynamite Entertainment is reviving Joe Bob’s retro MonsterVision brand for a brand new comic book series, MonsterVision Featuring Joe Bob Briggs and Darcy Issue #1, that’s also arriving in December 2026.
Later this month, don’t miss Shudder original special Joe Bob’s Halloween House Party for a Samhain soiree to remember with Joe Bob Briggs and Darcy the Mail Girl as they host a seasonal double-feature chock-full of tricks, treats, and violent dismemberment on October 23.
