Jacob’s Ladder
As you can easily tell by now, psychological horror is kinda my thing. But Jacob’s Ladder took it further by adding in truly phantasmagorical images. The reason this film still terrifies me is because, while I don’t believe in the afterlife, the thought that those few final moments of electrical impulses firing in my brain could create a nightmare like that is absolutely petrifying. I don’t want the last few seconds of my time on earth to be filled with fear.
When a film is one of the driving inspirations behind a series as venerated and loved as the Silent Hill franchise, it’s worth taking note.
