The thing about horror is that there are tons of different subgenres, each offering amazing, quality entries. From slasher to supernatural, found footage to comedy, each horror subgenre has some serious gems. But there are some subgenres that just don’t sit well with me. I don’t want to watch them, simply because I know that I won’t get any enjoyment from them at all. In fact, it’ll probably be the complete opposite. I’ll dislike the experience, sometimes finding it distasteful and just uncomfortable to watch.
Now, there are only three subgenres that I actively avoid and I’ve listed them below. After you see mine, do me a favor and tell me what kinds of horror movies you simply refuse to watch!
Rape Revenge
I just hate sexual violence in films. I really can’t stand it. I know that it happens daily in the world but that doesn’t mean I will enjoy watching a film about it. I’m all for strong women in horror (just look at Nancy in Nightmare On Elm St.) but using rape as a motivator sickens me. I have never seen I Spit On Your Grave, the original or the remake, and I have no plans on that changing.
