Sadism For The Sake Of Being Sadistic
I’m all for horror having dark, grim stories or endings. The original Saw is a fantastic example of an ending that was unexpectedly dark and twisted. But the movie was never sadistic just to be sadistic.
But then there are films that seem to have this particular purpose. They want to shock and horrify the audience simply because they can, with no other redeeming purpose. I don’t want to see that. It honestly feels lazy. If you can’t write a compelling story without resorting to violence, maybe you shouldn’t have written the movie in the first place.
