Dennis Byrd – Head Collision
Byrd suffered a neck injury during an NFL game against the Kansas City Thiefs on November 29, 1992. The opposing quarterback stepped up to avoid a attempted tackle by Byrd. Byrd collided with one of his teammates and ducked his head at the last moment before he collided with his teammate’s chest. The head-first collision resulted in a broken C-5 vertebra that left him unable to walk for the time being. He was unable to play football again.
