4. Child’s Play
While the original film may indeed be the best of the bunch, the VHS box art is the least interesting. Essentially just a shot from the film, there isn’t really anything creative about this cover. If I’m remembering correctly (and if I’m wrong let me know), the promotional materials hid the fact that the killer in the film was actually a possessed doll. By slapping Chucky’s image on the cover, all mystery is lost. Rather than use the tagline from the film’s poster, they use Leonard Maltin’s review blurb. It’s not a bad VHS box per se, it’s just the weakest out of all of them.
