Frank Ilfman – Big Bad Wolves (Score) (Death Waltz/Mondo)
I absolutely loved this movie and composer Frank Ilfman‘s score was a big part of my enjoyment. It fit the style of the film so well, alternating between darkly harrowing and delightfully playful. And knowing the quality and effort that both Death Waltz and Mondo put into their releases, I know that this will be yet another stellar entry into their libraries.
Metallica – No Life Til Leather (Blackened)
Although I don’t listen to them nearly as much as I did several years ago, I can’t deny the importance of Metallica in my life. This was the band that made me want to learn guitar. The Black Album was the first metal album that I owned. This is a collectible and I’m damn well going to go out of my way to find this.
Brian Reitzell – 30 Days Of Night (Score) (Invada)
This release brings back the partnership between composer Brian Reitzell and Invada Records, who released Reitzell’s phenomenal Hannibal score. Knowing how impeccable that release turned out to be, I know that this will match it entirely. Plus, this soundtrack is downright eerie and I want it in my collection, both as a horror fan and as a love of film scores.
Brian May – The Day After Halloween (Score) (Xozmiq)
Yes, it’s that Brian May, the guitarist of Queen. Bet you didn’t know that he scored this Australian thriller! From listening to several tracks, it’s got that delightful jazzy playfulness that was prominent on so many of the soundtracks of that era.
