Thomas Ligotti is one of the better spiritual successors to the torch lit by HP Lovecraft. His work exists in a world where light only exists to extenuate the darkness, not escape it, because you cannot. His essay “The Conspiracy Against the Human Race,” brings his personal nihilism into focus and shows that the ideas in his work are no passing fad or aesthetic, but a constant state of life.
