The People Under The Stairs
The People Under The Stairs is one of Wes Craven’s most misunderstood films. The ads promised terror (and that the “people” in the title were the actual villains). Nothing could have been more misleading, as the film is actually an extremely campy dark comedy. How Mommy has not yet become a drag queen role model is beyond me, but taken for what it is, The People Under The Stairs is a hugely entertaining film. The ending goes off the rails in the best way possible by having all of the people under the stairs (children that have resorted to cannibalism after being kept in the basement without food) break out and attack Mommy and Daddy. Rather than just run through the house, they bust out of the walls and floor and all manner of other household areas.
