7. Ali Rey is Now a Demon Expert (PA: TMO)
Jesse, the lead character in Paranormal Activity: The Marked Ones, becomes one of the marked ones. He learns about being a marked one from Ali Rey, Dan’s daughter from Paranormal Activity 2 (The Marked Ones takes place in 2012, six years after PA2) who has done extensive research on demons since her father and stepmother were murdered by Katie. Basically, she informs them that Jesse has been marked by a coven of witches called the Midwives that brainwash women into giving up their first-born sons. Those sons then become possessed by evil entities, thereby creating an army of demons. Since Hunter was the first first-born male in Katie and Kristi’s family since the 1930s, the coven (and Toby the demon) used them to procure Hunter. This is what links The Marked Ones to the rest of the franchise.
8. There’s Time Travel (PA: TMO)
Yeah, you read that right. In the climax of Paranormal Activity: The Marked Ones, it is revealed that the witch coven can make doorways that act as time portals. Jesse’s friend Hector travels back in time to the night Micah was murdered in Paranormal Activity and it turns out that he is what Katie was screaming at to draw Micah downstairs before she killed him in the first film. Then Jesse kills Hector. That was a pretty radical turn for the Paranormal Activity series to take, but it renewed interest in a franchise that stumbled a bit with its fourth entry.
