Horror movie prop collecting is expensive, it’s difficult, and it’s incredibly rewarding. There’s something special about having a piece of a film’s history in your home, something that you can look at and recognize from the movie itself. But as we all know, that shit ain’t cheap.
But what if you had a magic wand or a genie or something along those lines that could get you a few of your most desired props? Are there any specific pieces from horror movies that you’ve been craving for a long time?
Below are a few of mine and then I want you to tell me about the ones that have the greatest appeal for you!
Clive Barker’s Lord of Illusions – Nix’s Mask
If you haven’t seen this movie in a while, do yourself a favor and grab the director’s cut and give it another chance. The theatrical version is pretty awful. It’s rife with plot holes, awkward edits, and just strange progressions. But the director’s cut adds a ton of content that really takes this movie from a 0 to a 10 real fast.
Nix’s mask is one of those props from this film that just looks incredibly cool and has a fun story mythology it. Again, watch the movie to get the details.
As a quick side note, R.I.P. Daniel von Bargen. I hope you have found peace.
Evil Dead – The Necklace
While everyone is probably clamoring for the necronomicon or the chainsaw, I want the necklace because it’s such an integral part of the story AND it’s just a rather charming little piece. Plus, I can hang it from the neck of a Frankenstein statuette or something similar to mix films.
Alien – Sleeping Pod
Many, many years ago, I had a subscription to Nintendo Power. This was back when it was covering games only on the NES and Game Boy. In one issue, they had a contest where they were giving away one of the sleeping pods from I think it was Alien 3. In any case, I desperately wanted it and I still do to this day. In fact, it’s a prop that I would actually use. I’m one of those people who is comfortable in enclosed spaces, so this would be a great place to get some sleep. For example, whenever I have needed an MRI, I pass out within minutes of being fed into the machine, even with all the loud clanging and scanning.
A Nightmare on Elm Street – Freddy’s Glove
Okay, so this one is probably one of the most obvious choices in horror history. But can you imagine having an actual glove that was used by Robert Englund in your house? How frickin’ cool would that be?! Michael’s mask? Whatever. Jason’s machete? I can live without it. But Freddy’s glove? That’s something unique and creative, something that really stands out
