Twisted Music Video of the Week Vol. 216: Disturbed “The Sound of Silence”

For some reason this week, I’ve been suffering a lot of icepick headaches. They’re horrifically painful stabbing headaches that hit right above my right eye and last a short amount of time, maybe 10-30 seconds. But when they hit, I’m utterly useless. I grab my face, I have trouble breathing, and I just suffer silently for that short amount of time. And while I’m 100% fine afterwards, those few moments are just pure agony.

While those headaches have nothing to do with sound, I do suffer other headaches rather frequently that are affected by volume, which I’ve endured for over two decades now. That’s why the Simon & Garfunkel song “The Sound of Silence”, specifically the title, always connected and resonated with me. Silence is as wonderful a sound as the most beautiful song, in the right circumstances.

That’s why Disturbed‘s cover is something I want to highlight this week. It’s a beautiful rendition and vocalist David Draiman really shines here, exposing his range and his ability to really emote the words he sings. Plus, the video, which is done in stark black and white, is visually arresting, with many surreal visuals that are wonderfully suited for this series.

Enjoy!
