The Witch
A trailer should be like watching a mini-version of the film it is representing. This trailer for The Witch does just that. It is a perfect representation of Robert Eggers’s full-length feature. The haunting score echoes over the majority of its runtime, but the game of peek-a-boo the real centerpiece. That moment is on par with the hide-and-seek teaser trailer for The Conjuring three years ago.
The Shallows
In a perfect world, the teaser trailer for Jaume Collet-Serra’s The Shallows would have been the only trailer released for the film. Unfortunately most moviegoers need a bit more to bait (sorry) them into going to the movies so a full trailer was released, but this teaser is near-perfect. It’s quick and to the point, telling you everything you need to know about the film. It’s Blake Lively on a rock with a shark swimming around her. This teaser is tense, pretty and terrifying all at the same time. This isn’t a ranked list, but if it was this would take the top spot.
